Picture a serene scene where the Dao River intertwines with the urban streets of Nam Dinh on one side and the fragrant banks of Phu Long on the other, filling the air with the scent of flowers. These flowers were once ferried across the river on rafts every morning, adorning the streets with vibrant colors as they woke up.
The picturesque flower village along the Dao River
Phu Long (Nam Phong commune, Nam Dinh city) is an ancient village dating back to the Ly and Tran dynasties, nestled along the banks of the Dao River, overlooking Nam Dinh city on the opposite side.

In the past, Phu Long was known for various trades such as oil pressing, bronze casting, strawberry cultivation, and silk farming. Today, it is renowned in Nam Dinh for its flower cultivation.
The flowers of Phu Long not only supply Nam Dinh but are also famous across the provinces along the Red River delta. In the past, the people of Phu Long would ferry flowers across the river every morning. With improved transportation methods, these flower ferrying journeys have become less frequent, occurring only once a day.
