Fear not the might of Ho's household, fear the dominance of Tam Giang.
The name 'Tam Giang dominance” often evokes a vast expanse of rivers and waters, along with many intriguing aspects. If you have the chance to visit, you'll witness a picturesque aquatic landscape with captivating beauty.

Tam Giang dominance is the largest brackish lagoon in Southeast Asia, nestled within the Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon system, Vietnam's longest, stretching approximately 24km.

Covering an area of about 52 km², the lagoon extends from the mouth of the O Lau River to the mouth of the Perfume River, spanning the districts of Phong Dien, Quang Dien, Huong Tra, and Phu Vang in Thua Thien Hue province.

Tam Giang dominance occupies around 11% of Vietnam's coastal lagoon area. It has an average depth of 2 to 4 meters, with the deepest parts exceeding 7 meters. The lagoon is separated from the East Sea by a series of sand dunes, with coastal cliffs ranging from 10 to 30 meters high and widths varying from 0.3 to 5km.

The lagoon's aquatic resources are abundant, including a diverse range of shrimp, crab, and fish species. Fishermen gather their catch upon returning to port and sell them to traders or local markets.

In addition to natural seafood, the lagoon area also cultivates aquaculture on over 4,700 hectares of tidal flats and directly on the lagoon. The main aquaculture species are shrimp, crab, goby, mullet, catfish, and barramundi, raised in cages.

On the lagoon, fishermen set up many fishing traps. These traps consist of a network of star-shaped traps, a traditional shrimp-catching tool made of nets and bamboo. It's a traditional fishing method in the lagoon area.

Each fishing trap is usually owned by 2-3 households. These households take turns guarding the traps at night from small guardhouses built on the water surface. The fishing trap system creates the impression of a vast rice field with water channels.

Tam Giang carries a rugged, tranquil beauty, blending rural scenery with rivers, clouds, and sky. The livelihoods of the surrounding population mainly depend on fishing in the lagoon.

Dusk descending is perhaps the most spectacular scene on Tam Giang lagoon, immortalized in poetry, songs, and countless landscape photographs. The purple twilight mingled with the fading sunlight seems to make the lagoon more romantic and poetic.

Many tourists visiting Hue believe that unlike the nostalgic, serene beauty when watching the sunset at Khai Dinh Tomb or Truc Lam Bach Ma Monastery, at Tam Giang lagoon, the sunset is truly a masterpiece of nature.
