The recent LCS Summer 2023 tournament has been postponed for 2 weeks due to a player 'strike'
In recent days, the LCS region has become hotter than ever. The reason stems from the LCS Players' Association's decision to organize a 'strike' to protest Riot's erroneous decisions regarding the tournament. Consequently, the LCS Summer 2023 tournament has been temporarily postponed for 2 weeks for Riot and the LCSPA to deliberate and find the optimal solution.

The underlying cause is believed to be Riot Games' decision to eliminate the requirement for LCS teams to have youth teams participate in the second-tier tournament. Interestingly, Riot Games initially informed LCS teams that this rule would be implemented from the 2024 season. However, they applied the rule immediately from the LCS Summer 2023 tournament, resulting in many players and coaches losing their jobs and causing significant frustration.
Not stopping there, the aforementioned unfortunate incident was also predicted by one of the veteran LMHT players as far back as 11 years ago. Specifically, in late 2012, player Scarra expressed concerns about Riot having complete control over LMHT tournaments. He believed this would lead to Riot's decisions conflicting with the players' interests, potentially resulting in similar 'strikes'.

“I'm genuinely concerned about Riot Games having complete control over LMHT tournaments, at least in North America. It makes me feel like my career depends entirely on their decisions. I'm worried that if Riot makes a decision that affects the players, many will lose their jobs, and mid-season retirements will occur.” - Scarra shared during an interview in 2012.

Truly, Scarra's predictions have become reality as Riot's decisions are causing the LCS tournament to be postponed. We hope that Riot Games and the players in the LCS will come to the most reasonable decision so that this tournament can take place as soon as possible.
