In the late 2000s, the famous Twilight movie series not only captivated young audiences but also placed its actors in daunting situations, even affecting their health. Kristen Stewart, known as 'Bella,' courageously declined a director's proposal to protect herself, despite her young age and relatively low profile in the industry at the time.
In Twilight, Bella has a scene where she plunges into icy water, wanting to give up due to overwhelming sadness. In the final moment, although she still thinks of Edward, she is ready to let go. Unexpectedly, Jacob appears and rescues Bella, successfully preventing her foolish decision.
The scene depicting Bella's anguish required grueling filming conditions. Kristen Stewart had to immerse herself in freezing water for hours in a deep lake. As someone who enjoys adventure in her roles, Kristen Stewart wouldn't complain about a few underwater scenes in cold water. However, that wasn't the scariest part.
To achieve authenticity and realism for the scene, director Chris Weitz of Twilight: New Moon wanted Stewart to do more. He suggested she put weights in her shoes and pockets to sink underwater. Upon hearing the director's request, Stewart immediately refused, feeling uncomfortable with it.
