Actress Kirsten Dunst has unveiled backstage secrets surrounding the iconic kiss in Spider-Man.
Fans of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man series are surely acquainted with the iconic upside-down kiss between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. The absolute romance of this kiss has rendered it one of Hollywood's most beautiful kisses. However, behind its beauty lies a backstage secret that left the main actor quite uncomfortable.
Recently, Kirsten Dunst, who portrays Mary Jane, shared with W Magazine about this kiss. The actress didn't actually anticipate the kiss would be well received by fans due to encountering numerous issues while filming.
In this torrential rain scene, the lead actress inadvertently pulled off Spider-Man's mask, then planted a deep kiss on his lips to express gratitude for rescuing her.
'Water kept dripping into his nose because of the rain, and he couldn't breathe in the Spider-Man costume... It was also late at night,' shared Kirsten Dunst. 'I didn't think it was romantic at all.'
However, the actress understood that director Sam Raimi really wanted that scene to be absolutely romantic. So, despite not being very enthusiastic and interested, Kirsten Dunst still excellently completed the scene with her co-star Tobey Maguire.
Now, Kirsten Dunst feels 'proud to have done that kiss'. The actress also expressed her willingness to return as Spider-Man's lover if given the chance.
Recently, the film The Power of the Dog, starring Kirsten Dunst alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, earned her a nomination at the prestigious SAG Awards ceremony.
