Avoid unplugging, turn on/off the refrigerator
Most refrigerators have a mechanism to self-disconnect when reaching the user-set temperature. During startup, the cooling system operates until the inside temperature reaches the preset level. Throughout this process, you might hear a louder-than-usual humming sound from the refrigerator. This is the time when the fridge consumes the most electricity.
Subsequently, when this system disconnects, the fridge maintains a stable temperature and runs quieter without the previously mentioned sound. At this stage, the fridge consumes very little power. After a while, when the inside temperature increases, this cycle repeats to bring the air inside the fridge back to the optimal temperature. Hence, unplugging the refrigerator is unnecessary. This action can also lead to fluctuations in the temperature inside the fridge, affecting the freshness of the stored food.
Adjusting the fridge temperature and fan speed
Inside the refrigerator compartment, there are usually two user-adjustable components: the air distribution control knob and the temperature setting knob.
The temperature adjustment knob is often divided into segments, numbered, or indicated by colored size markings (in a clockwise direction, the set temperature for the fridge compartment decreases). The freezer compartment (ice compartment) can reach -21 degrees Celsius if the temperature control knob is set to the maximum position, and the storage compartment can reach a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius.
However, if the temperature is set lower than necessary, the compressor's working time will be longer, leading to inefficient energy consumption. Therefore, users can choose the most appropriate temperature based on the quantity of food and ice.
Note during power outages
During a sudden power outage, if the cooling system is actively working to cool the refrigerator compartment (audible loud humming), the gas circulation inside the condenser may be interrupted. If electricity is restored shortly after, the fridge startup may face difficulties due to an imbalanced pressure system, possibly causing the compressor to fail to start. If the protection relay system is not good, there is a high risk of compressor damage.
To avoid this situation, users can completely disconnect the power to the fridge as soon as a power outage occurs and wait about 10 minutes before reconnecting to ensure balance, or equip the fridge with an additional delay power device. It is safer if the power outage happens when the refrigerator is in a stable cooling state, as it will still maintain a sufficiently low temperature and shut down automatically, remaining safe without immediate operation.
