Not only for keeping food fresh, you'll be amazed to know the additional capabilities of refrigerators.
1. The unexpected uses of refrigerators, the second one is truly surprising.
Not just preserving food freshness, but you'll also be astonished to discover these hidden abilities of refrigerators.
Transforming old white woolens into new
White woolens, after prolonged use, may turn yellow or even black, losing their former charm. Instead of sadly discarding them, place the washed woolens in the freezer compartment, wait for an hour, then take them out to air dry. The original whiteness will be remarkably restored.

Extending the lifespan of perfume
Apart from keeping food fresh, it's surprising to learn that refrigerators can also extend the usage time of your favorite perfume. After using a perfume, place its box, wrapping paper, or sealed nylon bag in the fridge. Using this method, you can preserve them for several years. Moreover, storing this way helps the fragrance linger on your skin longer when applied.

Preserving photographic films
Storing films in outdoor environments can lead to dampness, mold, and the dreaded 'film burn.' Worry not, here's a small trick to safeguard them for an extended period without compromising image quality. Place the photographic films (even the partially shot ones) in a tightly sealed plastic box inside the refrigerator. This method ensures the preservation of your valuable snapshots.

Additional uses of the refrigerator:
- Put moist cakes in the freezer compartment for a day, and they'll regain their original moist and crispy texture when taken out.
- Peeling boiled chestnuts can be tricky; however, placing them in the fridge's freezer for a few hours will make the shells peel off easily, leaving you with easy-to-chew chestnuts.
- Store leftover rice in the freezer compartment for 2 hours, and when fried, the rice grains will be separate and exceptionally easy to chew.
Tips for a durable, energy-saving fridge not everyone knows
Avoid unplugging, turn on/off the refrigerator
Most refrigerators have a mechanism to self-disconnect when reaching the user-set temperature. During startup, the cooling system operates until the inside temperature reaches the preset level. Throughout this process, you might hear a louder-than-usual humming sound from the refrigerator. This is the time when the fridge consumes the most electricity.
Subsequently, when this system disconnects, the fridge maintains a stable temperature and runs quieter without the previously mentioned sound. At this stage, the fridge consumes very little power. After a while, when the inside temperature increases, this cycle repeats to bring the air inside the fridge back to the optimal temperature. Hence, unplugging the refrigerator is unnecessary. This action can also lead to fluctuations in the temperature inside the fridge, affecting the freshness of the stored food.
Adjusting the fridge temperature and fan speed
Inside the refrigerator compartment, there are usually two user-adjustable components: the air distribution control knob and the temperature setting knob.
The temperature adjustment knob is often divided into segments, numbered, or indicated by colored size markings (in a clockwise direction, the set temperature for the fridge compartment decreases). The freezer compartment (ice compartment) can reach -21 degrees Celsius if the temperature control knob is set to the maximum position, and the storage compartment can reach a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius.

However, if the temperature is set lower than necessary, the compressor's working time will be longer, leading to inefficient energy consumption. Therefore, users can choose the most appropriate temperature based on the quantity of food and ice.
Note during power outages
During a sudden power outage, if the cooling system is actively working to cool the refrigerator compartment (audible loud humming), the gas circulation inside the condenser may be interrupted. If electricity is restored shortly after, the fridge startup may face difficulties due to an imbalanced pressure system, possibly causing the compressor to fail to start. If the protection relay system is not good, there is a high risk of compressor damage.
To avoid this situation, users can completely disconnect the power to the fridge as soon as a power outage occurs and wait about 10 minutes before reconnecting to ensure balance, or equip the fridge with an additional delay power device. It is safer if the power outage happens when the refrigerator is in a stable cooling state, as it will still maintain a sufficiently low temperature and shut down automatically, remaining safe without immediate operation.
