In volume 27, published in 2000, chapters 267, 268, and 269 revolve around the case of Sato's late father, a former police officer murdered 18 years ago. Takagi, on his way to execute the arrest, identifies the culprit, but unfortunately, he is attacked and kidnapped.
The culprit handcuffed Takagi with the number 8 handcuffs he carried (also the last memento left by Sato's father), imprisoned him in a warehouse, and attempted to burn him alive. Despite the dire situation, Takagi refused to use his gun to break the handcuffs, determined to protect his loved one's keepsake. This remarkable act earned him admiration from the police department's beauty, Sato.
Painful past
One of the most influential characters in Sato Miwako's life is Matsuda Jinpei. Manga volume 36, first published in Japan in 2002, mentions the series of terrorist bombings in Tokyo.
Three years ago in the current storyline, police officer Matsuda Jinpei from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, part of the Mobile Unit, Security Department, was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division, Investigation Team 1, Criminal Investigation Department, Police Department; and worked with Sato.
In a bombing terrorist incident, Matsuda volunteered to sacrifice himself to save hundreds of innocent people. He also had feelings for Sato, and before leaving, he sent her an SMS message saying 'I like you', which closed the detective's heart for a long time.
Returning to the present, when Takagi disguised himself to monitor criminals, the whole team, including Sato, couldn't help but be shocked because he resembled Matsuda too much. The past is waking up once again. Takagi feels like he's competing with an overly perfect image.
But after many twists and turns of the bombing terrorist incident, they understand each other more. Sato lets go of painful memories, deletes Matsuda's SMS from her phone, and promises not to forget him. She also begins to open her heart to Takagi.
