Wild forest grapes are one of the hidden treasures in the Seven Mountains of An Giang, not widely known. Although these fruits seem untamed, they are eagerly pursued by many.
Exploring the Exceptional Forest Grapes of the Seven Mountains in An Giang
The Seven Mountains region, spanning the districts of Tri Ton and Tinh Bien in An Giang province, is renowned for its seven majestic peaks. Despite the existence of 37 mountains in these two districts, locals past and present commonly refer to it as the Seven Mountains region. With its serene natural scenery and the melodious sound of babbling streams, this area creates a magnificent landscape resembling a fairyland. It is here that various extraordinary wild fruits thrive, notably the forest grapes.

The forest grape vines exhibit robust vitality. During the dry season on the mountains, where water is scarce, they contract, only to burst into bloom and bear fruit during the rainy season. Each cluster of forest grapes can yield hundreds of fruits, remaining vibrant even without human care. The grapes have a sweet and tangy taste, and during the rainy season, they are often leafless, with juicy clusters hanging from the vines, awaiting harvest.

When unripe, the grapes display a vibrant green-yellow hue, transforming into a stunning deep red when ripe. Many may mistake this unique forest grape for an exotic wild fruit, but it is, in fact, a surprisingly familiar variety.

Forest grapes when young and unripe often have a challenging sour taste, but as they ripen, they develop a delightful sweet and tangy flavor that is quite appealing. Particularly, soaking forest grapes in wine enhances their sweetness and aroma, making them a favorite among many. Moreover, forest grapes are also used for extracting juice; the original concentrate can be intense, so adding a bit of water is common to dilute this mixture.
