The upcoming iPhone 15 Pro promises a 24% boost in 5G speed compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro.

According to data from SpeedSmart, the iPhone 15 Pro is expected to deliver 24% faster download speeds on 5G networks compared to the iPhone 14 Pro. SpeedSmart conducted tests across various networks in the US, with Verizon showing the most significant improvement.

Verizon's 5G on the iPhone 14 Pro averages a download speed of 196Mbps, while on the iPhone 15 Pro, it reaches 243Mbps. Alongside the download speed increase, there's a slight improvement in upload speeds on this year's iPhone, although not substantial. This speed boost stems from Apple's decision to upgrade the 5G modem in the iPhone 15 Pro. While Apple hasn't officially disclosed details, SpeedSmart suggests that Apple has adopted Qualcomm's X70 modem this year. The X70 is a powerful modem known for significantly enhancing network metrics such as download, upload, latency, etc. Additionally, the X70 is believed to integrate AI processing capabilities to stabilize mmWave 5G signals. Currently, the X70 modem is also featured in the upcoming Galaxy S23 lineup.

Despite rumors suggesting Apple's efforts to develop its own 5G modem, the tech giant has extended its contract with a modem supplier until 2026. It seems we'll have to wait for several more iPhone generations before we see a device equipped with an in-house modem.
