Vaults of the Ancients is the latest monthly update for Sea of Thieves, released on September 9 as a free update for all players on Xbox One, Windows 10, Xbox Game Pass, and Steam. Vaults of the Ancients introduces new journeys where players must seek out hidden keys to unlock the Treasure Vaults of the Gold Hoarders. Once found, you can return these keys to the Gold Hoarders as promised, or - since this is a pirate game - pirates can use them to unlock treasure for themselves.

Treasure hunting missions
Recently, ancient Puzzle Vaults renovated by the Gold Hoarders have transformed into Treasure Vaults as their wealth continues to grow. However, the increasing power of Captain Flameheart threatens the safety of these treasure chambers, and the Hoarders need to reclaim the keys they have long hidden.
Join the Treasure Vault Voyage and you'll be provided with a Golden Wayfinder compass - this will assist you in locating the map pieces leading to the hidden Vault Key. Once you possess the key, the choice is yours: deliver it to the Gold Hoarders and receive your reward, or take the risk of using it to unlock the treasure, where you have the opportunity to acquire a heap of riches, much larger than the reward from the Gold Hoarders, and escape before the traps set send you to the other side.
Welcome aboard the new loyal companions: dogs
Three new breeds of dogs have joined Sea of Thieves, seeking their rightful owners. Choose from the Alsatian, Whippet, or Inu with customizable skins, and keep this faithful companion by your side as you set sail for adventures. Most Sea of Thieves dogs are trained and live aboard ships, but don't worry too much about hygiene as your pup's coat is constantly rinsed clean by rain and seawater. If you're a pirate who enjoys dressing up and coordinating outfits, you can even dress your dog in a suitable beach attire.
The update is available for free to all Sea of Thieves players who have purchased the game on Xbox One, on Windows 10 PC, or through Steam, or for players with access via Xbox Game Pass. Simply download and install the latest Sea of Thieves update to experience the newly added content in the game.
