There is evidence suggesting that mysterious liver inflammation in children may stem from their exposure to dogs.

A mysterious liver inflammation in children has now emerged in approximately 20 countries worldwide, with one reported fatality. After investigating, the UK health security agency indicated that children may have contracted this disease from dogs. This conclusion is drawn from studying 92 cases, out of 163 in total in the UK, where 64 cases had either been in contact with dogs or had pet dogs at home.

Scientists believe this to be a significant discovery in tracing the origin of the perplexing disease. There have been rumors attributing this illness to vaccination, while others speculate it could signal another epidemic. However, initial speculations point to adenovirus 41, a common cause of the common cold, as the possible culprit, despite its rare association with childhood liver inflammation. Interestingly, dogs also carry adenovirus and the canine adenovirus-1 pathogen, although, until now, there has been no evidence suggesting its transmission to humans.

One possible cause of this disease is prolonged lockdowns, which have weakened children's immune systems. When they are finally exposed to the outside environment, they become susceptible to infections. Another hypothesis suggests that during a recent outbreak of adenovirus, the risk of infection became higher than normal.

Currently, doctors cannot provide a final conclusion. All they can do is issue warnings and advise parents to watch out for symptoms such as jaundice in children (which may include yellowing of the whites of the eyes) or if the child experiences vomiting or diarrhea, prompting them to seek further medical examination.

In Southeast Asia, Indonesia has also reported cases and deaths related to this disease. The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has issued warnings to closely monitor and immediately report any suspected cases of infection.
