Clearly, when you contribute to building systems and software, you gain insight into how the world operates today - largely driven by software. Whether you observe familiar tools like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or intricate systems managing production lines, accounting systems, or those simplifying human tasks, you can envision the layers it traverses, the fundamental elements it requires to function.

Of course, this understanding is at a principle level; delving into the detailed structure of each system is practically impossible to grasp entirely. However, at least you don't feel puzzled about why someone can achieve such 'miraculous' feats.

And you can comprehend why solutions are crafted in a specific manner, not following another approach. Why an app is developed this way, not the other. You also gain insights that not every desired system can exist; there are always constraints related to human factors, costs, adoptability... considerations when any software comes into existence and gets deployed.

Becoming a software professional has enlightened me about the challenges businesses face when implementing technological solutions. Understanding the resistance from individuals is profound, surpassing my previous underestimation of the human factor. Crafting software correctly proves to be a cost-saving asset for enterprises, automating tasks to alleviate monotony and showcasing how well-designed software can contribute significantly to a company's financial success.

Transitioning into an engineering role equips me with the skills and tools needed to generate solutions for specific problems, be it professional or personal. Whether writing a website from scratch or utilizing available tools, the process becomes more straightforward, offering versatile problem-solving capabilities.

When encountering a colleague struggling with a task, I embrace the opportunity to provide innovative solutions swiftly. Whether it's devising helpful tools or automating repetitive aspects of my own work, I aim to create efficiency, enabling more enjoyable tasks or allowing extra time for relaxation and personal pursuits.

These skills not only save time and effort for both me and my colleagues but also contribute to cost savings for the company. Occasionally, the very tools developed may become marketable assets, generating additional revenue for the company. The sense of accomplishment derived from such endeavors is truly fulfilling and exciting for all of us.

I don't know about others, but I'm the kind of person who enjoys building things—my friend categorizes me as a 'builder,' though I believe I possess attributes of both a 'builder' and a 'thinker.' The joy and enthusiasm I experience in creating a tangible product are truly unparalleled.

Every now and then, you come across news articles claiming that software engineers are making hundreds of millions per month, and everyone in the field is wealthy. In reality, the number of individuals earning such high salaries is not as abundant as portrayed, but it's certainly not low either. Currently, the market is in demand for software engineers of all types, making it relatively easy to find high-paying positions. A recent graduate with sufficient skills can expect a monthly salary of 20 million (as of 2020). Someone with 2-3 years of experience could reach 30 million, which is not uncommon.

There's a message I want to convey to everyone: While the salary levels for software engineers are indeed high compared to the overall company average, don't let that lead to overconfidence or an inflated sense of importance. Other departments such as marketing, finance, accounting, and sales contribute crucially to a company's operation. In these areas, skilled individuals with capabilities are compensated just as well as a seasoned software engineer.

Moreover, it's essential for colleagues to pay attention to salary bubble trends during recruitment. Stay updated on salary benchmarks for your position in the job market to know if you're being compensated fairly, if you're being underpaid, or if the company is offering competitive salaries to attract talent. This awareness helps in negotiating salary packages effectively, ensuring you're valued for your skills and experience.

Software Engineers Can Venture into Business

I've witnessed many individuals with a software engineering background transition successfully into marketing, high-level management, operations, and sales. My current boss, formerly a software engineer, now serves as the CEO overseeing multiple companies. With a solid foundation in technology, business acumen, and effective people management, software engineers bring unique perspectives that enhance business operations. Those with a software background in business are adept at leveraging technology to optimize processes and increase profitability.

I find that to be a very clever and unique approach. If you stick solely to one business domain, you might miss out on valuable insights.
