1. Things to Consider When Purchasing an Oil-Free Fryer
Air fryers, vacuum fryers, hot air fryers, oil-less fryers... are different terms for a new type of fryer that has emerged in recent years, allowing homemakers to prepare 'fried' dishes such as french fries, fried buns, fried chicken, without using cooking oil.

Termed as an air fryer because it cooks and browns food by heating the air in the fryer to around 200 degrees Celsius and then using a fan to create a fast and strong circulation of hot air evenly across the surface of the food. The food will be cooked quickly in 10-15 minutes. Since the air fryer does not require cooking oil, it is also known as an oil-less fryer.
The air fryer only takes about 3 minutes for the machine to heat the air to the desired temperature, and the total cooking time for the food is only half that of a conventional convection oven.
An air fryer typically consists of 2 parts. The top part contains the heating element (heating coil) and the fan. The bottom part is a removable frying tray; inside this frying tray is a frying basket used to hold the food to be fried. This frying basket has a mesh bottom for easy air circulation. Cheap fryers usually integrate the frying basket into the frying tray, making it inconvenient for cleaning, while more high-end fryers can remove the frying basket when needed for even food shaking or cleaning after frying.

Currently, there are still few models of air fryers on the market, and they are quite expensive. The Philips brand has the HD9220 model with prices ranging from 5.8-7 million VND depending on the seller. Another brand is Magic with 2 models A84, A71, priced at around 2.6-3 million VND. In addition, some less well-known brands such as GoodLife, Pensonic, Katomo, Elip... also have prices above 2 million VND, more expensive than conventional convection ovens.

While oil-free air fryers are convenient, safe, and clean, it's advisable to consider your usage habits before purchasing. Evaluate whether you need a larger or smaller capacity fryer. A fryer with a removable frying basket may be more expensive but offers greater convenience. Additionally, when buying, it's worth considering adding a small amount of cooking oil or butter to items like potatoes, tofu, and vegetables to prevent them from becoming too dry. Occasionally, taking out the frying tray and shaking or flipping the food will enhance its flavor. For dishes with excess fat, such as fried chicken or meat, it's essential to drain off excess oil to avoid excessive smoke and burning.
