Zoe Saldana wasn't the initial choice for the role of Neytiri in Avatar.
Avatar: The Way of Water is currently dominating the box office in Vietnam and internationally, marking the spectacular comeback of the billion-dollar franchise. Alongside the male protagonist Jake Sully, the warrior Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana, impresses with a new role - that of a mother. Zoe Saldana's performance continues to receive praise, bringing her closer to a new box office milestone. However, this rare opportunity almost didn't belong to Saldana if the Avatar team had chosen the following name.

In reality, the Avatar project was greenlit as far back as 2006, attracting numerous actors to compete for roles. For Neytiri, Zoe Saldana wasn't the only candidate noticed by James Cameron. Surprisingly, the renowned actress Emily Blunt also participated in the casting process, aspiring to become the heroine of the Na'vi tribe.

Although acclaimed as the 'orchid mute' of Hollywood, leaving a mark with various roles, especially in thrilling action genres, Emily Blunt from the 2000s still wasn't a noteworthy name. Her prominent role in The Devil Wears Prada

However, Emily Blunt wasn't the only name approached for the role of Neytiri. In the 90s, when James Cameron conceived the idea for Avatar, actress Charisma Carpenter was the envisioned Neytiri. The 'sensual icon' in Hollywood action projects like The Expendables 2, Buffy the Vampire Slayer... seemed fitting to join the Pandora world. However, due to the prolonged development of the project, the idea of inviting Carpenter gradually faded into oblivion.

On the other hand, before Emily Blunt revealed her attempt at the role of Neytiri, Q’orianka Kilcher was the first candidate James Cameron considered. Not only did Kilcher deliver an impressive performance, but she also had a unique background, a fresh presence on the screen.

However, after all considerations, the 'Colombiana' Zoe Saldana emerged as the official Neytiri of Avatar. Her outstanding performance and beauty brought the character to life, gaining as much love as Jake Sully. Now, making a comeback in Avatar: The Way of Water, Zoe Saldana maintains her excellence, even leaving a more impressive mark with many captivating action sequences.

Avatar: The Way of Water is currently screening nationwide.
