'Clouds and Waves' is one of the typical works of the poet Tagore. The poem has deeply touched readers with the love that a child has for their mother.
With their imagination, the child recounted a book-worthy encounter with their friend in the clouds and waves. The beings in the clouds boast about how happy their lives are:
'We play from the moment we wake up until dusk. We play with the golden dawn, we play with the silver moonlight'
The life of the clouds appears free, happy. They frolic with the 'golden dawn' and the 'bright moonlight' all day long without anyone stopping them. They immerse themselves in the sparkling, warm light of the sun, the moon. This is truly a vibrant world, captivating the souls of children.
Strolling along the beach, the child hears the story of those 'within the waves':
'We sing from early morning until dusk.'
'We wander from here to there without knowing where we're headed'
Similarly to clouds, waves say they are comfortably singing from the moment the sun rises in the east until the light fades, giving way to darkness. They invite the child to wander, explore new lands.
All these invitations arouse curiosity and stir the child's mind, 'But how do I get up there?', 'But how do I get out there?' Everything that those 'above the clouds', 'within the waves' tell is enticing, stirring the soul of the child. But in the end, the child cleverly declines these two invitations to return to mother, 'How could I leave you and go there?', 'In the afternoon, you always want me to stay home, how could I leave you and go?'
With mother, the child is ecstatic playing fun games. The child doesn't need to be far from mother to satisfy the desire to soar as a cloud, to play mischievously as a wave, 'I am the cloud and you will be the moon', 'I am the wave and you will be the strange shore'. It seems that every time snuggling into mother's arms, enjoying that sweet embrace, the child loves mother more. The sweet smile on the corner of the lips seems to deepen the moments of happiness for the child living in mother's embrace.
