At the current time, there is no denying the popularity of the TikTok video-sharing social network. According to the latest data from Sensor Tower, TikTok has become the most downloaded 'non-gaming' app globally in January 2020, with over 104.7 million installations, with India accounting for 34.4%.

Thanks to the popularity of the TikTok app, especially among the youth, hardly anyone remembers TikTok as a song by Kesha. However, it seems like the app is now providing even more control options and rolling out a feature called Family Safety Mode for parents to 'safeguard the well-being of teenagers on TikTok'.
The Family Safety Mode allows parents to link their TikTok accounts with their children's. When this feature is activated, parents will be able to control the 'Digital Wellbeing' features (understood as Google's 'smartphone addiction prevention' feature), including 3 functions: Screen Time Management, Direct Messages, and Restricted Mode. Refer to how to create a Tik Tok account here.
- Screen Time Management: The name says it all, Screen Time Management allows parents to set limits on their children's app usage time.
- Direct Messages: This feature enables parents to control whom their child is talking to. This will be done by giving parents the right to limit who can send messages to the linked account, as well as completely turning off the messaging feature.
- Restricted Mode: With this feature, parents can limit the appearance of content they feel may not be suitable for their child.
Mr. Cormac Keenan, representing TikTok, shared in a press release: 'When people use TikTok, we know they expect a fun, authentic, and safe experience. As part of our ongoing commitment to provide users with features and resources to have the best experience on TikTok, we are introducing the Family Safety Mode, a new feature to help parents and guardians keep teenagers safe while using TikTok'.
Not only combating TikTok addiction, but YouTube is also a social network that we need to help our children overcome addiction to. Parents can refer to How to combat YouTube addiction for children here.
