Currently, the influx of spam messages to smartphones is increasing, mainly advertising messages about attractive phone numbers, real estate purchases... In our previous article, we guided users on how to block spam SMS on Oppo. Below, Mytour.vn offers some tips to block spam SMS for iOS, Android, Winphone platforms...
1. Block by Number and Contacts
If you're someone with many 'high-level' relationships, and don't wish to receive calls from unknown numbers, you can utilize the 'Receive messages and calls from numbers in your contacts only' feature (block unknown number). This 'better safe than sorry' feature is currently available on most smartphones using both of the most popular operating systems, iOS and Android.
The drawback of this method is that sometimes you may miss calls from outside your contacts or from important landline numbers, especially when your acquaintances are in urgent situations, and their numbers are not saved in your contacts for calling.
2. Block Using Keyword Filters
In iPhones running iOS 8.3 or later and some Android phones like LG, Samsung… there's a feature to block spam SMS using filters, allowing users to define keywords to block spam messages. Considering the actual content of most common spam messages in Vietnam, you can list some specific keyword phrases like:
Resort, villa, townhouse, apartment, condominium, free, adjacent, land, opening, promotion, promo, showhouse, introduction, interest rate, investment, profit… Additionally, for spam messages inviting property purchases, you can also add specific keyword phrases like: million/, million/m, million/lot, million/unit, m/, billion/lot, billion/unit…
Moreover, due to the nature of advertising messages, spammers often want recipients to contact them via phone numbers. Hence, keywords like these can help detect advertising spam messages:
LH:, Lh:, lh :,L/H,L.H:, L.h:, Lh: 0,… (all contact numbers start with 0 so adding 0 increases accuracy) GOI, Call now, call: 0, Call :0, call 0, phone 0, phone0, PHONE0…
For spam SMS inviting service usage, you can add keywords like: Type:, Syntax:, send to…
Using filtering methods to block spam messages can prevent over 90% of spam if the keywords are accurately and comprehensively defined. For Android smartphones without built-in spam message filtering capabilities, you can install free applications available on Google Play such as Anti SMS Spam & Private Box, 'SMS spam Blocker, Clean Inbox', Go SMS Pro... These applications will require permission to replace the built-in SMS message manager of your smartphone to 'catch' SMS sent to your mobile number and filter through keywords to block. However, using third-party applications like Anti SMS Spam & Private Box, 'SMS spam Blocker, Clean Inbox', Go SMS Pro... may incur fees depending on the application you choose.
3. Install Automatic Spam SMS Blocking Applications
If you're not proficient in setting up keywords and spam message filtering, you can install automatic spam SMS blocking applications. An application specifically developed for Vietnamese users that can block relatively effectively is 'Laban SMS: spam blocker', which includes both keyword filter-based blocking and automatic spam message detection for blocking.
However, Laban SMS's ability to self-detect spam SMS for blocking is still not completely perfected, so for truly effective blocking, sometimes you still need to use keyword filter-based features.

From now on, you no longer have to worry about spam messages appearing on your smartphone screen. Additionally, if you frequently use 3G to avoid data waste, users can proactively turn off 3G on iPhone to reduce mobile data consumption on their iPhone. Wishing you successful experiences.
