1. Best Time to Visit Myanmar
Myanmar's climate is tropical and divided into three seasons:
- A cool winter from November to February
- A hot summer in March and April
- The rainy season from May to October
Travelers tend to avoid the rainy season and visit during the extended dry season from October to April. Rainfall is limited from November to February, considered the best time to visit Myanmar due to cool and dry weather. Days remain warm, but the nights can get chilly if you're in the hills. In March, temperatures can soar from around 28°C in central Myanmar to over 40°C, with humidity causing rapid body fatigue.
In fact, you can visit Myanmar year-round. Rainfall depends on the specific location of cities. Annual rainfall in the delta region is approximately 2,500mm, while the average annual rainfall in the Dry Zone in central Myanmar is less than 1,000mm. If you don't plan to visit Myanmar's beautiful beaches, you can still explore the country's highlights like Bagan and Mandalay as they are in the Dry Zone. The advantage of traveling during the rainy season is that you can book hotels and flights at half the price compared to the normal season. The destinations are also less crowded, allowing you to freely enjoy the beauty of those places.
Try to schedule your Myanmar trip to include Full Moon days as they are popular for street processions and festivals in the monasteries. If possible, avoid the Water Festival of Thingyan (usually in April) when many businesses close, sometimes for ten days.

2. Payment Methods and Currency

Passport, Vaccination Certificate, Credit Card:
- Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months with available blank pages for stamps.
- Check if your arrival visa is pre-arranged by your travel agency or if you need to apply in advance.
- Consult your doctor for appropriate vaccinations, ideally at least six weeks before your journey.
- Verify with your bank if your credit cards work in Myanmar and inform them about your trip to avoid account locking. Have cash on hand for any internet access issues.
- Keep digital copies of your passport and credit cards, storing them on your mobile or online account like email for quick access in case of loss.
Insurance:
- Choose a comprehensive insurance plan covering a wide range of risks.
- In case of emergencies, you can transfer to an international hospital. Your insurance will be a lifesaver in such situations.
Medication:
- First Aid Kit: adhesive bandages, antiseptic ointment for treating rashes, cuts, and scratches.
- Diarrhea/Dysentery Relief: Due to varying food hygiene standards compared to Europe and other developed countries, most stomach discomfort cases result from dietary changes rather than poisoning.
- Mosquito Repellent: In a tropical country, mosquitoes and other annoying insects can be found everywhere with water. Therefore, mosquito/insect repellent is essential, especially around Inle Lake and the Irrawaddy River.
- Malaria: Consult your doctor for medication or vaccination against malaria as a precaution.
- Painkillers: A good way to find comfort in general discomfort during unfavorable weather (tropical weather).
