1. Arthdal Chronicles (2019)

Through numerous struggles to survive, Eun Soem endures a painful and difficult childhood. Tan Ya (Kim Ji Won), destined like Eun Soem, is the heir to the Wahan tribe. After facing many hardships, she embraces her mission and aspires to become a powerful political figure.
Song Joong Ki, known for his strong acting and good looks, truly shines in Arthdal Chronicles, portraying Eun Soem with powerful intensity. His performance brings new life to the story, enhanced by a compelling plot.
The series requires viewers to pay close attention, as it begins with a complex narrative and many characters, which might confuse audiences without focus. Despite the high expectations, the final product is a somewhat satisfying experience.

2. The Battleship Island (2017)
The Battleship Island effectively portrays the grim reality of life for the Korean people on Hashima Island, a place resembling hell during World War II. In the film, Park Moo Yeong (Song Joong Ki), a soldier in the Korean independence army, infiltrates the island to rescue a national leader held captive there. The movie also features Lee Kang Ok (Hwang Jung Min), a conductor devoted to his young daughter, and Choi Choel Subg (So Ji Sub), a tough gangster who fiercely protects his people.
From the moment the cast was announced, the film generated significant buzz, attracting attention from both media and fans. Song Joong Ki delivered a memorable performance, cementing his reputation as a serious actor. His portrayal of a soldier, covered in grime and involved in dangerous, high-stakes action scenes, was a departure from his previous roles. However, while his performance was solid, it didn't bring a fresh dimension to the character, nor did it elevate the overall film.
The movie struggled to hit an emotional high, feeling more like a documentary than a cinematic piece. Its rapid pacing and heavy political themes, including extreme nationalism and politics, may overwhelm viewers.

Additionally, Yoo Shi Jin's colleague, Seo Dae Yong (Jin Goo), has broken up with his girlfriend, Yoon Myung Joo (Kim Ji Won). The four of them are unexpectedly reunited in Urak due to unforeseen events.
The drama brings together the iconic duo Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, whose natural and stellar performances captured the hearts of fans. Song Joong Ki displays his charm, decisiveness in love, humor, and his leadership and responsibility as a soldier. However, the film overlooks several unrealistic plot points, with a lot of fictional elements that don't align with the real-life military experience, and there are some contradictions in the storyline.

This film showcases Song Joong Ki's impressive acting as he convincingly mimics the movements of a wolf. Throughout the movie, he communicates most of his emotions through his eyes, successfully portraying the wolf-boy's deep feelings for the female lead.

9. Vincenzo (2021)
Vincenzo follows the journey of a mafia consigliere who uses ruthless and even illegal tactics to bring down those who manipulate the law with money and power. The series is a blend of good and evil, and the protagonist's character evolves throughout.
The show is especially loved by fans who enjoy intense moments of revenge and retribution. Vincenzo Cassano (Song Joong Ki) is a lawyer and the right-hand man to Don Fabio, the head of the Cassano mafia family. After Fabio’s death, Fabio’s son, Paolo, attempts to kill Vincenzo. Fleeing to Seoul, Vincenzo embarks on a mission to recover 15 tons of hidden gold from a secret vault beneath the Geumga-dong Plaza, a building he helped a Chinese mob boss conceal the gold in.
With no one else aware of the gold’s location, Vincenzo plans to retrieve it for his retirement fund. However, the Babel real estate group has unlawfully taken over the building, and Vincenzo must use his cunning skills to reclaim the property and restore his fortune. In South Korea, he meets lawyer Hong Cha-Young (Jeon Yeo Bin), a driven attorney willing to do whatever it takes to win. Vincenzo falls for her, and in his own way, seeks justice for society.
Song Joong Ki skillfully portrays the dual nature of Vincenzo, capturing both the cold, ambitious lawyer and the kind, compassionate man who stands up for the oppressed. Although the show received praise for his performance, some parts of Vincenzo’s storyline felt unnecessarily drawn out.

10. Space Sweepers – Victory Ship (2021)
Space Sweepers is set in 2092, a time when Earth is dying, its skies polluted with thick smog and its landscapes barren. With the planet on the brink of collapse, a mega-corporation named UTS begins building a new ecosystem in space, using advanced technologies. James Sullivan (Richard Armitage), the head of UTS, leads the project to create a 'paradise' on Mars, a planet nearly devoid of life.
In this grim future, Kim Tae Ho (Song Joong Ki) plays a crucial member of the Victory Ship crew, a group of space scavengers. Alongside Kim Tae Ri as the tough captain, the film’s dynamic duo of Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri received praise for their strong performances. The supporting characters, like Tiger Park (Jin Seon Kyu), a drug dealer, and the quirky Robot Bus, also leave lasting impressions.
This film marks a major return for Song Joong Ki, reminiscent of his success in Descendants of the Sun. He portrays a clever, resourceful pilot, willing to sacrifice anything to earn a living. After a period of absence from the big screen, Space Sweepers brought him back to the limelight.
Despite its star-studded cast, the film faced criticism for drawing too many comparisons to other works and for its uneven production quality. The narrative about environmental pollution, economics, and the relationship between humans and robots felt loosely constructed and lacked depth, leaving some viewers unsatisfied.
