8. Broken Dawn
9. Love
You, hidden behind the blossoms, playfully share a laughter's manifestation.
I pause, uncertain, in your presence,
You, delicate, pluck a fresh rose in your graceful essence.
You toss it to my awaiting heart,
A bouquet of love, a harmonious start.
But beware, for flowers conceal thorns within,
Sharp edges that leave scars on my soul's skin.
Since then, I've immersed myself in adoration,
Living in the intoxicating ecstasy of this emotion's foundation.
Yet, dwelling also in the agony of love's bitter potion,
Smiling outwardly, while tasting the inner commotion.
10. Lake Spring and the Maiden
Dedicated to Thach Lam
On the jade-blue canvas of the lake,
A young maiden maneuvers her tiny boat,
Graceful, like a dragonfly in flight,
Her tail flirting with the rippling blooms.
A gentle breeze skims the surface,
Afternoon sunlight dances on the branches,
Rows of palms swaying with fragility.
Why does the maiden suddenly captivate?
Resting the oar, leaning on the pillow,
Gazing at the ethereal clouds above...
Ask the clouds what charm they hold,
That a swallow soars with carefree elegance?
On the innocent, radiant forehead,
A lingering scent of melancholy.
For moments, she seems ever present,
Elevating her soul to the sublime.
The sweet sounds of a melodious kite,
Clear sky, intensely blue and gentle.
The boat drifts, water sways hesitantly.
Row of trees on the bank, silently anticipating.
Dreaming deeply of something,
Oh, rosy-cheeked sister so lovely?
Oh, maiden, gazing at the clouds,
Contemplating the swallow's flight to the sky?
Casting a spell, enchanting the senses,
The flute's tune lingers in the air,
Veiling the lake in mist,
Days not willing to end, and I, not wanting to leave.
This is the poem from the second edition printed in 1941.
