Top 10 best-selling cars in the auto market of January 2023: Hyundai Accent leads, Toyota Vios absent.
After setting sales records in 2022, the Vietnamese auto market showed a somewhat weak start in the first month of 2023. Specifically, according to sales figures just released by VAMA, only 17,314 vehicles were sold by association members in January 2023, marking a 51% decrease from December 2022 and a 44% decrease from January 2022.
As a result, the ranking and list of the top 10 best-selling cars in the Vietnamese auto market in January 2023 also saw significant changes. Specifically:
Leading the list of the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam in January 2023 is the Hyundai Accent with sales of 1,024 units. Despite a decrease of more than 1,900 units compared to December 2022, being at the top position amidst the overall decrease in car purchasing power somewhat reflects the attractiveness of this B-segment sedan. Notably, the Accent is also the only passenger car model on the market to reach over 1,000 units sold in the past month.

The Ford Ranger remains the most popular pickup truck model in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, climbing to the second position is the Ford Ranger with 958 units sold. However, compared to December 2022, the sales of Ford Ranger have decreased by nearly 1,500 units. Nevertheless, it still remains the most sought-after pickup truck model in Vietnam.
The Toyota Corolla Cross ranks third with sales of 867 units in January 2023, a decrease of 1,612 units compared to December 2022. The price increase policy of Toyota Vietnam along with the market slowdown has caused the Corolla Cross to no longer sustain its sales growth momentum.

The Toyota Corolla Cross fails to maintain its sales growth momentum.
Alongside the Ranger, the Ford Everest SUV is increasingly proving its appeal in the Vietnamese market. Evidence of this is in the past January, where this model continued to be the only representative of the 7-seater SUV segment featured in the top 10 best-selling cars with sales reaching 770 units, a decrease of 303 units compared to December 2022.
The Honda City ranks 5th with sales reaching 759 units, a decrease of 427 units compared to the end of 2022. Thus, along with the Hyundai Accent, the Honda City is the second B-segment sedan to appear in the list of top 10 best-selling cars.
Maintaining its position at 6th in the top is the most popular 5+2 seater MPV in Vietnam - the Mitsubishi Xpander. However, in the early 2023 sales momentum, the Xpander only reached 713 units sold, a decrease of 1,143 units compared to December 2022.

The Mitsubishi Xpander remains the best-selling affordable MPV.
In 7th place is the Hyundai Grand i10, which after a long absence, has returned to the race for the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam with 632 units sold. It can be seen that the departure of several competitors, including the VinFast Fadil, has helped the Hyundai Grand i10 regain its position in the affordable small A-segment car segment.
In 8th place is the Hyundai Creta with sales of 585 units. Thus, there are now 3 representatives from the Hyundai brand in the top 10. Ranking 9th is the Toyota Veloz Cross, continuing to demonstrate its appeal at the beginning of 2023 with sales reaching 568 units. Since 2023, the Toyota Veloz Cross has been assembled in Vietnam by the Japanese automaker instead of being imported, for more proactive supply management.

The Ford Territory is proving the allure of a completely new model.
Occupying the 10th position is also the third representative of Ford Vietnam. Specifically, the appeal of an entirely new model has helped the Ford Territory achieve sales of 504 units in the past January.
It can be seen that due to January coinciding with an extended Lunar New Year holiday, overall automobile sales in Vietnam were not as high as in the last months of 2022. However, during this period, to stimulate sales, car manufacturers and dealerships are exerting great efforts to offer numerous promotional programs.
