Smoking can also lead to skin sagging in areas like the neck, chest, and upper arms due to the loss of moisture and elasticity. Research indicates that smokers are at a 52% higher risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the second most common type of skin cancer, often appearing on the lips of smokers. This increased cancer risk is attributed to the damage smoking causes to the immune system. Additionally, recent studies have shown that smokers are more likely to develop psoriasis. 10. Proper Face Washing
Washing your face is a daily habit, but do you really know if you're doing it right? You should avoid using hot water for washing your face. While hot water may help open up pores and remove dirt, excessive heat strips the skin of moisture, leaving it dry and irritated. On the other hand, cold water may tighten the pores but using very cold water can shock the skin and lead to burns. Both extremely hot and cold water can cause skin shock, irritate the skin, and break blood vessels. Therefore, the ideal temperature for washing your face is lukewarm water between 30-33°C to keep your skin safe.
Additionally, you should wash your face twice a day, in the morning and at night. However, if you have oily skin, especially during hot summer months, you may want to wash your face 3-4 times a day. But, limit the use of facial cleansers to twice a day. If your skin is excessively oily, rinse with cool water and pat dry. This helps cleanse the skin effectively while preventing it from becoming dry or dehydrated from overuse of cleansing products. After washing, your skin is more receptive to skincare products, so be sure to hydrate with a suitable moisturizer. If you have acne, apply a thin layer of acne treatment cream to affected areas. Always wash your face gently with water when you return home and use makeup remover when necessary. Choose a gentle cleanser with minimal ingredients, no fragrance, alcohol, or petrochemical-based chemicals. Massage the cleanser into your skin for about 20-30 seconds to avoid drying it out. Don't forget to clean your hands before washing your face, and rinse with cold water afterward to close your pores.
