1. Gentle Tam - Story 'Tam Cam'
'I love the folk tales of my country
Both humane and deeply wonderful'.
Every Vietnamese person has grown up with folk tales. When still a child, these tales followed us into sleep, and as we matured, they turned into life lessons. We forget that these characters are mere products of imagination but they vividly come to life. In my mind, the image of gentle Tam always leaves the most impression.
Since childhood, the folk tale of Tam Cam has always had a special allure for me. I love gentle Tam as much as I detest the wicked mother and daughter Cam. In my mind, Tam is a dignified, gentle, and graceful girl. She has a slender figure like a young bamboo, a round, full face, as radiant as the full moon.
Her skin is as white as peeled eggs. Her eyes are black, giving off a gentle, kind gaze, her voice soft and melodious like the song of birds in the early morning. She wears only simple brown clothes, yet it does not diminish her inherent beauty.
Tam is not only beautiful in appearance but also beautiful in character. From a young age, she has suffered much because her mother passed away early, her stepmother only loves and treats Tam unfairly. Tam has to work hard from morning till night because her stepmother and selfish stepsister push her around, yet she never complains, enduring all the suffering and injustice silently.
Tam is both filial and hardworking, enduring and compassionate. Even after becoming a queen, living a happy, fulfilling life, every year, Tam still remembers her father's death anniversary, knowing that her father likes to eat betel leaves, Tam climbs up the tree to pick a betel leaf to burn as incense for her father. Despite being harassed by her stepmother and stepsister time and again, Tam miraculously perseveres, sometimes transforming into a golden bird, sometimes into a peach tree, branches, and fruits.
Finally, after many difficulties, trials, Tam also achieved complete happiness, and her wicked stepmother and stepsisters were properly punished. The story of Tam's life makes me more deeply understand the philosophy of reaping what one sows. Kind-hearted people like Tam, despite enduring many injustices and trials, will ultimately achieve a life worthy of what she has gone through.
Gentle, hardworking Tam is a typical representation of honest, simple farmers. Tam's image is closely associated with the childhood of many generations, occupying an important place in everyone's childhood.

2. The Story of Thach Sanh - 'Thach Sanh'
Perhaps anyone who has read the story of 'Thach Sanh' remembers the magical zither and clay pot. It has become a symbol associated with the image of Thach Sanh. Every time I finish reading the story, closing the book, I feel like the character is stepping out from the story, close and real.
Thach Sanh is tall and strong with bulging muscles. His well-proportioned, robust figure adds to his beauty. Thach Sanh carries a bamboo pole, wearing a brown scarf around his head, and carries firewood from the forest looking like a forest strongman.
Thach Sanh was orphaned since childhood. He is not an ordinary person but a prince, the son of the Jade Emperor who was incarnated as the child of an old couple in Cao Binh. This noble and unusual origin is a sign that Thach Sanh's life will not be smooth but will encounter many challenges and obstacles.
Thach Sanh is a kind, diligent, and talented young man. Because he is very honest, he has been deceived by Li Thong many times without knowing. Alongside the cunning Li Thong, he lived honestly and wholeheartedly, helping him in many ways. Not only that, whenever the young man is always willing to help others in need, without hesitation.
Thach Sanh killed the venomous centipede not only to save Li Thong's mother and child but also to help the villagers escape from the cruel talons of the giant eagle. And more than that, Thach Sanh defeated the army of eighteen vassal states with his intelligence without spending a single arrow. Thach Sanh's magnificent feats are truly admirable.
Through many difficulties, Thach Sanh has shown his courage and talent even more. Accepting to guard the temple, then encountering a centipede, he is always ready to fight without fear. Seeing the giant eagle capture the princess, Thach Sanh bravely followed the trail and descended into the cave to fight the giant eagle to rescue her.
When falsely accused of stealing from the king's treasury and imprisoned in the dark dungeon, Thach Sanh brought out his zither to play, the sound of the zither reached the princess, and he managed to rescue himself. The challenge of the eighteen vassal states has most clearly demonstrated the talent as well as the compassionate heart of the brave warrior. The magical pot of rice has helped Thach Sanh impress and convince the soldiers to retreat.
In the joy of victory, we see Thach Sanh more beautiful than ever, the harmonious beauty between appearance, soul, and talent. Thach Sanh remains the heroic figure of generations of children from ancient times to the present. Despite reading many other fairy tales, the image of Thach Sanh still lingers in my mind.

3. The Fairy in Fairy Tales
The fairy world in the imagination of Vietnamese children is a colorful world. In that paradise, there is gentle Cinderella, diligent and hardworking Potato, and the strong and brave Thach Sanh. However, the one we children like the most is the Fairy - the kind old man who always brings colorful wishes.
In my imagination, the fairy is probably not much different from my grandfather. He also has white hair, tied up like the elders of the past. He has big, round eyes that look at the world to see who is in difficulty, in pain, and then helps them. Those eyes are very gentle, compassionate, just like the fairy himself.
My grandfather used to have long, white beards down to his chest, so I think the fairy is the same. His skin is rosy and white from eating many peach blossoms in heaven. The Fairy often goes to help others. Every time he appears, there is a white smoke around him, which we often call his 'fairytale mist.' Around the Fairy, beams of light can illuminate the whole world.
He usually wears a yellow outfit, wooden clogs that look simple and familiar like my grandfather's. His voice is warm and gentle, soothing all pain. But what I love most about him is his heart. 'Kind Fairy,' 'The old man brings many wishes' are the names I give him. The Fairy helped Cinderella meet the king. When Cinderella had no clothes to attend the party, he magically turned the fishbones under the four-poster bed into beautiful clothes, into a cute red pair of shoes, and into a pink horse for Cinderella to attend the party.
The Fairy taught Potato two magic spells to punish the landlord and marry his daughter. In the fairy tale 'White Daisy,' the fairy showed the way for the little girl to pick daisies to bring back to cure her mother's illness. He even went to the house to examine and treat the illness for that filial girl's mother…
That's right! With a magic wand in his hand, the fairy has gone everywhere, met all kinds of people, good and bad. But only good people, obedient and talented children can meet the fairy, be helped by him, and make wishes. As for naughty children, bad people, they will have to endure deserved punishments.
I love the Fairy so much. I see him as my own grandfather. Since I was in the cradle, I have been told by my grandparents about the Fairy. Even in dreams, I have seen the things the Fairy did to help poor relatives, people in distress. I'm not a good child. Sometimes I'm lazy and argue with my mother, but I will fix it, I will try harder to study, be more obedient, to see the fairy - my kind and humane old man - once.

4. The Kind Fairy - Story 'The Hundred-Knot Bamboo Tree'
In the treasury of Vietnamese folk stories, there are many familiar characters, each of whom brings us a profound life lesson. And the character I love the most is the kind fairy in the story 'The Hundred-Knot Bamboo Tree'.
Once upon a time, there was a strong, hardworking older brother. Because of poverty, he had to work for the wealthy landlord. The landlord was stingy, greedy, and cunning. One day, he called the older brother and said, 'Work hard, and I will marry my daughter to you.' Believing him, the older brother plunged into hard work.
Two years later, thanks to his efforts, the landlord acquired many houses and fields. He called the older brother again and said, 'For two years, you have worked hard. Now I will marry my daughter to you. But first, you must find a hundred-knot bamboo tree in the forest.' The older brother hurried to the forest, chopping and chopping but to no avail.
Realizing he had been deceived, he burst into tears. At that moment, a white smoke covered the sun. In the distance, a fairy with silver hair began to appear. He had a square face with a split chin, looking very gentle and dignified with deep wrinkles. Behind the bird-shaped eyes were large, round eyes, always shining with a kind look. Between two chubby cheeks that had wrinkled over the years was a comical nose. Though his teeth were not as shiny as white, they were as even as corn kernels, hidden behind full, rosy lips.
But what made him look very familiar was his long beard, reaching his chest, also pure white. All this gave him a simple look like the old men of Vietnam, but with a deep sense of compassion, ready to help those in need and danger. He wore a pure white robe always gleaming under the sunlight and adorned with dragon and phoenix patterns.
His arms were long, always swinging a pure white bamboo staff like his hair. His legs were tall but still nimble. Seeing the older brother crying, the fairy approached with a big laugh. His laughter spread far and wide throughout the forest. Then, with a deep, warm voice, he asked, 'Why are you crying?'
The older brother tearfully told the fairy everything. After a moment of contemplation, the fairy told the older brother to bring a hundred bamboo knots and line them up. Then the fairy began to perform magic. He waved his bamboo staff, a strong wind began to blow, sweeping away all the fallen leaves along the way. A halo began to appear behind him.
He shouted: 'Khắc nhập - khắc nhập.' The shout was powerful and authoritative. The bamboo knots began to be sucked together to form a hundred-knot bamboo tree. Once again, he burst into laughter echoing throughout the forest. Before the older brother could thank him, the fairy had turned into a white smoke and disappeared into the sky.
He also reminded the older brother to remember the two magic spells. The older brother hurried back to stop the wedding ceremony. Ashamed, the wealthy landlord had to marry his daughter to the older brother. And so the two lived together for the rest of their lives.
Through the image of the fairy in this story and many other stories, our ancestors wanted to teach us: Be good and you will meet good, be evil and you will meet evil. The fairy always appeared to help the poor against the cruelty of the rich landlords. Later, when I grow up, I will tell my children these folk tales so that they will be the keepers and preservers of our national culture.

5. The Fairy of the Seashell - Poem 'The Fairy of the Seashell'
Surely you still remember the story 'The Seashell Fairy' that we learned in the Storytelling class in Grade Four. The fairy transformed into the shell of a snail and was adopted by an old farmer, which made everyone love her and reminiscent of the gentle Tấm stepping out of the pumpkin in the story 'Tấm Cám' to help the old lady.
The Seashell Fairy was truly beautiful! Slim figure, graceful steps. Her skin was as smooth as snow. Oval-shaped face, beautiful, gentle, and sweet. Under the curved eyelashes were bright, sparkling pigeon eyes. Her heart-shaped lips were always rosy.
She wore a dress the color of the sea, with a white belt that added to her charm. Every day, she emerged from the snail shell to help the old lady sweep the house, cook rice, pick garden grass, and feed the pigs. Her movements were agile, her steps seemed to glide across the ground.
The tasks she did were quickly completed. The rice she cooked was skillful and delicious. Under her care, the pigs grew quickly. The vegetable garden became greener and healthier. Every time she returned from the fields, the old farmer was extremely surprised not knowing who had helped him.
One day, the old lady pretended to go to the fields and then returned, she saw the Seashell Fairy, she was amazed at her dazzling beauty, and she immediately ran to the water jar and smashed the snail shell. Seeing the movement, the Seashell Fairy was about to run back to the water jar, but the old lady hugged her tightly. From then on, she became the filial, obedient daughter of the old lady. The two of them lived happily together.
What a wonderful story, isn't it, everyone? In the end, the beautiful fairy became the old lady's daughter and lived happily together in the loving warmth.

6. Kind-hearted Fairy Godmother - Story 'Cinderella'
Each fairy tale brings us profound messages about life. To me, the image of the Fairy Godmother in the story 'Cinderella' evokes the desire to live beautifully, to live in a just society where goodness triumphs over evil.
From afar, she appears as small as a twinkling star that can move through space. But when approached, she looks truly radiant and benevolent. She wears a small crown adorned with sparkling diamonds. Her fair face seems to emit a halo of kindness.
Her eyes sparkle with thousands of stars in the sky. But those are the eyes when she meets kind people and protects the weak. But when she encounters the wicked, her eyes blaze with the flames of hatred, as if to burn away the evil.
She often wears a white cloak adorned with shimmering sequins. Like other fairies, she has a pair of tiny wings shimmering with colors behind her back. She can move through the air effortlessly. Her magical power lies in her wand. Every time she waves it, sparkling snowflakes burst out. Thanks to that magical wand, beautiful Cinderella had everything she needed for the ball. The Fairy Godmother is kind-hearted and benevolent. She often helps the poor. Hearing Cinderella's cries, she rode a pink cloud over and asked why the girl was crying. Then she gently waved her wand and chanted 'bibbidi-bobbidi-boo.' Suddenly, two mice eating nearby turned into two white horses.
Strangely, the red pumpkin turned into a magnificent carriage, and the bewildered cat suddenly saw the mice disappear and turned into the coachmen. Cinderella had everything she needed. But when she saw Cinderella's tattered clothes, she raised her wand and twirled gently, turning into a glittering dust. Instantly, Cinderella's tattered clothes disappeared. In their place was a beautiful princess in a sparkling pink gown adorned with shimmering sequins.
As for the shoes, oh my, the shoes seemed to be made of glass, transparent, and too adorable. With a voice as melodious as a gem, the Fairy Godmother gently reminded Cinderella: 'Remember to return before midnight!' For the kind-hearted, the unfortunate, she loves, protects, but for the wicked, her actions are strong and resolute.
To punish the cruel stepmother and stepsisters, her wand twirled, the Fairy Godmother became angry, her voice echoing throughout the earth and sky. Then she took her wand, turned the cruel stepmother and stepsisters into two toads, and banished them to a distant land. After that, she happily attended Cinderella's wedding to the prince.
The Fairy Godmother is truly kind-hearted, having helped everyone. I love and cherish her dearly, and I hope that one day soon I will also be able to help by her side. She has imparted to me profound lessons about life: kindness begets kindness, and evil begets retribution.

In the Vietnamese language class at elementary school, I have learned and explored many meaningful and interesting stories. Among those stories, my favorite character is Lady Mị Nương in the legend 'The Mountain Deity and The Water Deity'.
Lady Mị Nương is the daughter of the eighteenth Hung king, she is a princess with exquisite beauty. Her slender figure is graceful like a willow branch. Lady Mị Nương possesses a fair complexion as pure as the snowflakes falling on those high mountains. Her oval face always carries a shy expression that can captivate any man's heart. Her black, flowing hair resembles a cool stream, giving her a graceful and gentle appearance. With a straight, high nose, beautiful dove-like eyes, and rosy lips resembling cherry blossoms in spring, they harmonize perfectly with each other. Her eyes seem to speak and smile, lively and flexible, yet making the beholder not feel repelled, but instead feel friendly and intimate.
Lady Mị Nương has a voice as clear as a ringing bell, every time she sings, even the mountain birds stop to enjoy her soothing voice. Lady Mị Nương possesses hands as delicate as jade, with pink, slender fingers, every time she touches a flower, the flower seems to feel ashamed in front of her beauty. Because of that beauty, countless young men came to propose to the princess when she reached the age of marriage.
According to legend, among all those who came to propose, there were two who were called the 'deities of the sea' and the 'deity of Mount Tản Viên'. Yes, it was none other than the Mountain Deity and the Water Deity, after a fierce battle lasting for a month, the Mountain Deity finally took Lady Mị Nương back to the mountain, defeating the Water Deity. Both of them wanted to have Lady Mị Nương not only because of her beauty, right? Not only blessed with beauty, but Lady Mị Nương is also very skilled in poetry, she is a talented female scholar.
Lady Mị Nương is a simple, unselfish, and altruistic person, pure and caring for everyone. She always helps the people in the city with all her abilities but has never demanded anything from them, she is not arrogant, not conceited, always humble and respectful. Lady Mị Nương is an exemplary princess and a kind-hearted person whom the people love and appreciate deeply.
I admire Princess Mị Nương because she is both beautiful and kind-hearted. I hope someone like her will have a happy life with her beloved prince and adorable children.

9. The Mermaid in Fairy Tales
The mermaids in fairy tales are characters constructed by human imagination that everyone adores.
They are incredibly beautiful and enchanting mermaids. Their upper body resembles that of a human, while the lower half is a large tail of a fish. Their tails are covered with shimmering green and gold scales that shine brightly in the sunlight. The mermaids have long, flowing hair that looks very gentle and captivating.
Their faces are as beautiful as angels. Their beauty mesmerizes everyone. Their fair and rosy skin enhances that beauty. Their eyes are deep and mesmerizing like the depths of the sea, while their lips are always moist and seductive. The beauty of the mermaids is enough to sway an entire fortress, a beauty that tilts kingdoms and cities.
According to legend, the mermaid is the daughter of the Water King who reigns beneath the deep sea. They live in a palace made of pearls and coral, only occasionally venturing out in the early morning dew or late evening sunset to play and sing on small islands.
Whenever their singing echoes to the sun and they tilt to listen, the clouds stop drifting, the wind stops blowing, the birds stop singing, entranced by the melodious, echoing singing. The sounds of their harp, played by the divine artist Apollo, cannot compare. It is because of the miraculous voice that many sailors are willing to dive into the sea to seek them out.
Imagining the image of the mermaid, humans let their imagination soar, wanting to explain the disappearance of ships at sea in a lofty, romantic, and deeply mystical ancient way.

10. The Filial Child - Story 'The White Daisy Flower'
Since childhood, I have been told many fairy tales by my mother. But until now, I still love the story 'The White Daisy Flower' even though I have read it many times. I particularly like the character of the filial child.
The little friend has a slim and tall figure. The face of the little friend expresses kindness. The little friend has long, smooth hair, and her teeth are as white as porcelain. The little friend has bright, white eyes. She lives with her mother in a dilapidated tent.
The little friend I'm talking about is an extremely filial girl. Unfortunately, her mother is very ill, but because they are poor, they don't have money to buy medicine, which makes the little girl very sad. Once, while she was sitting crying by the roadside, an old man passed by, seeing her in distress, he stopped and asked. When the situation was clear, he said to the little girl: 'Child, go into the forest and go to the base of the oldest tree, pick a single flower there. The number of petals on that flower indicates how many days your mother will live.'
The girl then went into the forest and it took her a long time to find that white flower. It was very difficult for her to climb up to pick the flower. But when she counted the petals, she exclaimed: 'There are only four petals? Does that mean my mother will only live for four days?' Unable to bear it, she gently tore the large petals into small ones, and the flower responded by growing more and more petals until it was impossible to count.
From then on, people called that flower the white daisy to talk about the filial piety of that girl towards her mother. Through the story, we have seen how deep and vast the love of a child for her mother is. Let us emulate the example of the little friend.
