1. Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant
Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant is among the largest thermal power plants in Vietnam. Located in Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province, the Vung Ang Power Center comprises 5 thermal power plants with a total capacity of 6,300MW.
Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant 1 was inaugurated in September 2015 by the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) with a capacity of 1200MW. Formosa Thermal Power Plant has an operational capacity of 1,500MW, owned by the National Oil and Gas Group, completed and commercially operated since 2015. This is currently the largest thermal power plant project in the Central Vietnam region and is one of 4 plants in the Vung Ang thermal power center.
Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant 2, invested by Mitsubishi Corporation and Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Company Limited, has an operational capacity of 1,320MW, expected to be commercially operational in 2018. Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant 3 has a total operational capacity of 2,400MW. The Vung Ang 3 project has been divided into 2 independent projects, each with a capacity of 1,200MW. The construction of Vung Ang 3 Thermal Power Plant is invested by Song Da Corporation, BIDV, BITEXCO, and AEI in the Asia-Pacific region.
Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant is one of the largest thermal power plants in Vietnam. The Vung Ang Power Center is located in Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province, consisting of 5 thermal power plants with a total capacity of 6,300MW.

Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant 3 has a total operating capacity of 2,400MW. The Vung Ang 3 project has been divided into 2 independent projects, each with a capacity of 1,200MW. Vung Ang 3 Thermal Power Plant is invested by Song Da Corporation, BIDV, BITEXCO, and AEI in the Asia-Pacific region.


2. Song Hau Thermal Power Plant
Song Hau Thermal Power Plant is one of the significant thermal power plants in Vietnam. The Song Hau Thermal Power Center project is planned to be constructed on a 360ha area, located in Phu Huu A industrial cluster, Chau Thanh district, Hau Giang province. The Song Hau Thermal Power Plant project has a total capacity of 5,200MW, and the construction process will be divided into 3 phases.
Phase 1 involves building Song Hau Thermal Power Plant 1 with a capacity of 1,200MW, on a 115ha area invested by the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, expected to be operational in 2019. Phases 2 and 3 include the construction of Song Hau Thermal Power Plant 2 and 3, each with a capacity of 2,000MW, entrusted to Toyo-Ink Group (Malaysia) as the investor and are still in the preparation process.
The Song Hau Thermal Power Plant project is a large-scale coal-fired thermal power project. When operational, the plant is expected to contribute about 7.2 billion kWh/year to the national grid, meeting the demand of load centers in the Southwest region and the National Grid. The annual revenue of the plant is estimated to be around 15 - 20 trillion VND, making a significant contribution to the total revenue of the Group and the central and local budget revenues.
Song Hau Thermal Power Plant is one of the largest thermal power plants in Vietnam. The Song Hau Thermal Power Center project is planned to be built on a 360ha area, located in the Phu Huu A industrial cluster, Chau Thanh district, Hau Giang province. The Song Hau Thermal Power Project has a total capacity of 5,200MW, and the construction process will be divided into 3 phases.
Phase 1 involves constructing the Song Hau 1 Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 1,200MW, on a construction area of 115ha, led by the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, expected to be operational in 2019. Phases 2 and 3 entail building the Song Hau 2 and 3 Thermal Power Plants, each with a capacity of 2,000MW, entrusted to Toyo-Ink (Malaysia) Corporation as the investor and are currently in the preparatory stage.
The Song Hau Thermal Power Plant project is a large-scale coal-fired thermal power project. Once operational, the plant will contribute approximately 7.2 billion kWh/year to the national grid, meeting the demand of the load in the southwestern region and the National Power System. The annual revenue of the plant is estimated at around 15 – 20 trillion VND, significantly contributing to the total revenue of the Group and making a substantial contribution to both central and local budgets.


3. Phu My Thermal Power Plant
Since its first power generation in February 1997, Phu My Thermal Power Plant has been supplying about 17 billion kWh per year to the country. The electricity capacity here has increased by 8.6 times compared to the first time, and the electricity output has also increased by more than 15 times. During peak dry seasons, Phu My Thermal Power Plant still produces from 45-57 million kWh per day, ensuring stable electricity supply for both business operations and people's daily lives. Phu My Power Center accounts for up to 40% of the total electricity capacity of the country, contributing to maintaining national energy security and effectively meeting the socio-economic development needs of the country.


4. Long Phu Thermal Power Plant
Long Phu Thermal Power Center groundbreaking took place in 2007 in Long Duc commune, Long Phu district, Soc Trang, with 3 coal-fired thermal power plant projects totaling 4,400MW. This is one of the largest thermal power plants in Vietnam.
Long Phu Power Plant 1, invested by the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group and Power Machines - PTSC, held its groundbreaking ceremony in 2015. This project consists of 2 units with a capacity of 1,200MW each. According to the plan, Long Phu Power Plant 1 will be put into commercial operation in 2018. Long Phu Power Plant 2 has a total capacity of 1,200 MW, expected to be operational by 2019. This power plant project is the largest Indian investment in Vietnam, as well as the largest FDI project in the Mekong Delta region to date. Tata Group of India, the investor of Long Phu Thermal Power Project 3 with a capacity of 2,000 MW, wishes to continue investing in this project.


5. Duyen Hai Thermal Power Plant
Duyen Hai Power Center located in Tra Vinh has a total capacity of up to 4,400MW, including 4 coal-fired thermal power plants using steam turbine technology. Additionally, it houses the largest coal port in the Mekong Delta region. Therefore, it is understandable why Duyen Hai Thermal Power Plant is one of the largest thermal power plants in Vietnam. The company has played an important role in ensuring electricity supply for both production and livelihoods in the Mekong Delta region and the whole country.
Duyen Hai Thermal Power Plant 1 has a total capacity of 1,245MW, already operational, supplying electricity to the national grid, with a production output of 7.8 billion kWh per year. Duyen Hai Thermal Power Plant 2 with a capacity of 1200MW, invested by Janakuasa Company of Malaysia, began construction in December 2015. Duyen Hai Thermal Power Plant 3 commenced construction in December 2012 with a total capacity of 1,245MW. In December 2015, Duyen Hai Thermal Power Plant 3 expansion project initiated by the Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Group and Power Generation Corporation 1, with one unit with a capacity of 660 MW and dock number 2.


6. Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant
Vinh Tan Thermal Power Center consists of 4 power plants and 1 seaport. Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant has a total capacity of up to 5,600MW, located in Vinh Tan commune, Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province.
Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant 1 commenced construction in July 2015 with an operating capacity of 1,200MW, with 95% of the capital contributed by China Southern Power Grid International Co., Ltd. and Phu Nam Power Grid Company Limited, the remaining portion contributed by Vinacomin Power Corporation. It is expected that Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant 1 will synchronize with the national grid around late 2018 to mid-2019.
Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant 2 and 3, invested by Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Group, have a total capacity of 1,244MW and officially commenced commercial operation in March 2015.
Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant 4 commenced construction in April 2016, with electricity generation scheduled for December 2019. This project with a total capacity of 1,200MW is invested by Doosan Heavy Industries Group (South Korea), Mitsubishi Group (Japan), Pacific Corporation and Power Engineering Consulting Company 2 Joint Stock Company.


7. Kien Luong Thermal Power Plant
Kien Luong Power Center is one of the largest thermal power plants in Vietnam, led by Itaco Energy Corporation, a subsidiary of Tan Tao Group. Kien Luong Thermal Power Plant is built on an area of over 555ha in Ba Hon town, Kien Luong district, Kien Giang province, with a total investment capital of up to 6.7 billion USD and a capacity scale ranging from 4,400 to 5,200MW.
According to the plan, by the end of 2013, Kien Luong Thermal Power Plant 1 with a capacity of 1,200 MW was supposed to generate electricity and synchronize with the national grid. However, due to various issues arising, the Kien Luong Thermal Power Plant 1 project is expected to commence commercial operation in August 2024, and the entire Kien Luong Thermal Power Project will be operational by February 2025. Kien Luong Thermal Power Center is a national key project that has been on the map of the 6th General Plan since the beginning of the decade, with a total capacity of 4,400MW, representing a long-standing dream of power planners, serving as a vital energy source for the southern provinces during the period of industrialization acceleration.


8. O Mon Thermal Power Plant
O Mon Thermal Power Plant is one of the largest thermal power plants in Vietnam. O Mon Thermal Power Center comprises 4 power plants, planned with a total capacity of 2,800MW. O Mon Thermal Power Plant 1 is invested by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN). With a capacity of 660MW, this plant has been put into commercial operation. O Mon Thermal Power Plant 2, 3, and 4 are all invested by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) with capacities of 720MW, 700MW, and 720MW respectively.
O Mon Thermal Power Plant is tasked with providing stable electricity supply for the southern region and the national power grid, contributing to energy security and safe electricity supply. Additionally, the power plants within O Mon Power Center will promote efficient exploitation of the national gas resources of the Lo B gas chain in the Southwest coastal area.
Investment in power source projects at O Mon Power Center using Lo B gas for electricity generation aims to reduce reliance on imported fuels, stabilize the national power supply, and mitigate the risk of power shortage in the coming period, especially in the southern region. Alongside the Ca Mau Thermal Power Plant, O Mon Power Center is expected to meet the electricity demand in the region and provide electricity to neighboring Cambodia.


9. Mong Duong Thermal Power Plant
Mong Duong Thermal Power Plant located in Cam Pha town, Quang Ninh province comprises three power plants with a total capacity of 3,400MW. Mong Duong Thermal Power Plant 1 commenced construction in October 2005, invested by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) with a capacity of 1,080 MW. After years of construction, Mong Duong Thermal Power Plant 1 has essentially started commercial operation. This is the first and only EVN plant to date using Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler technology.
Mong Duong Thermal Power Plant 2, invested by AES Corporation of the United States, Posco Power of South Korea, and China Investment Corporation of China, has a total capacity of 1,240MW and commenced operation in April 2015.
Mong Duong Thermal Power Plant 3 project is currently in the final stages. This plant is expected to have a capacity of 1,240MW, with an investment of about 2.4 billion USD. Mong Duong Thermal Power Company has been implementing appropriate and effective solutions to stabilize production and maintain growth rates.


10. Quynh Lap Thermal Power Plant
Quynh Lap Thermal Power Plant is one of the largest thermal power plants in Vietnam. Quynh Lap Thermal Power Plant has a total capacity of 2,400 MW, built on an area of 283 hectares, in Dong Hoi Industrial Park, Nghe An province. The Quynh Lap Thermal Power Plant project is divided into 2 phases: Quynh Lap Thermal Power Plant 1 and Quynh Lap Thermal Power Plant 2. The Quynh Lap Thermal Power Plant 1 project (2x600MW) is one of 2 projects under the Quynh Lap Power Center (Nghe An) included in the National Power Development Plan for the period 2011-2020 with a vision to 2030 (Power Plan VII) approved by the Prime Minister.
The Quynh Lap Thermal Power Plant 1 project, invested by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) with a capacity of 1,200MW, commenced construction in June 2016 and was put into operation in 2020. Quynh Lap Thermal Power Plant 2 is also built in the same area as Quynh Lap Thermal Power Plant 1, with a similar capacity of 1,200MW and invested by Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin).
