2. VinFast Lux A 2.0
- Price (excluding fees): 800,000,000 VND
The VinFast Lux A 2.0 is a D-segment sedan by VinFast, Vietnam's own automaker. Built on the platform of the BMW 5 Series (6th generation, 2010-2016), the Lux A 2.0 was first showcased at the 2018 Paris Motor Show alongside its sibling, the VinFast Lux SA 2.0 SUV. Although it wasn't a production model yet, the Lux A 2.0 was nearly 90% complete and quickly earned recognition as one of the standout cars at the exhibition, winning the 'New Star' award from AutoBest, a respected automotive journalism organization.
The exterior design of the Lux A 2.0 sedan is striking, with luxurious styling cues from Italian design house Pininfarina. VinFast held a public vote to choose from 20 designs, and this model emerged as the winner, reflecting the preferences of Vietnamese consumers. The sedan's front grille takes inspiration from the terraced rice fields in northern Vietnam, with a subtle dash on the left side of the grille forming the letter 'F' and complementing the 'VF' acronym representing VinFast. The front lights are equipped with LED technology, with a row of daytime running LEDs at the top, the main and low beam lights in the middle, and sporty air intakes below. Interestingly, fog lights are absent on this model.
At the rear, the Lux A 2.0 features a sculpted design with a V-shaped LED light strip that gracefully curves from the sides to meet the VinFast logo in the center, with trapezoidal exhaust pipes below. Overall, the exterior exudes a blend of German and Italian design, with the BMW 5 Series platform providing a solid foundation, while Pininfarina’s influence gives it a distinct, modern elegance. This sedan is ready to compete in the luxury car segment for many years to come.
The interior of the VinFast Lux A 2.0 is luxurious, featuring a blend of orange and black tones. The 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel is adorned with the VinFast logo, and the analog instrument cluster is combined with a 7-inch color display. The cabin boasts impressive tech, including a 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a gear lever reminiscent of those found in modern BMWs, and features like push-button start, smart key access, rearview camera, power-adjustable mirrors, heated steering wheel, and memory seats for two positions.
Under the hood, the Lux A 2.0 is powered by a 2.0L N20 engine, licensed from BMW, producing a maximum output of 130 kW (174 hp) and 300 Nm of torque. VinFast plans to fine-tune this engine for the local market and will also assemble it in Vietnam using German-sourced technology to reduce costs. The sedan features an 8-speed automatic transmission from ZF, commonly used in Jaguar, Land Rover, and BMW models. Advanced driver-assistance systems like Cruise Control, tire pressure sensors, electronic handbrake, Auto Hold, hill-start assist, and lane departure warnings are standard features, making this sedan well-equipped for both performance and safety.
VinFast has started accepting deposits for the Lux A 2.0, with expected delivery in September 2019, although earlier deliveries may be possible. The company’s flexible deposit policy allows customers to cancel at any time, providing peace of mind to potential buyers.

4. Mitsubishi Triton 2019
Price (excluding fees):
- Triton 4x2 AT: 730,500,000 VND
- Triton 4x4 AT: 818,500,000 VND
Starting January 1, 2019, the Mitsubishi Triton 2019 became available for display at Mitsubishi dealerships across Vietnam. This Thai-imported pickup is now open for pre-order, with deliveries expected after the Lunar New Year. The Japanese automaker has shared the technical details of the two MIVEC 2.4L engine variants, which feature a new 6-speed automatic transmission and improved fuel efficiency. The engine remains unchanged with a power output of 181 horsepower and a peak torque of 430 Nm.
Externally, the 2019 Mitsubishi Triton features a masculine Dynamic Shield design with overall dimensions of 5,300 mm in length, 1,815 mm in width, and 1,795 mm in height. The aggressive front end is highlighted by sharp, high-mounted headlights, a chrome bar that connects the headlights, and the iconic Mitsubishi grille. Below, the front bumper and air intakes resemble those of the Xpander, adding a rugged and powerful look. The design takes inspiration from the eX concept, with a front-end resembling the Pajero Sport, including sleek LED daytime running lights and a striking headlamp design.
Equipped with Mitsubishi's Dynamic Shield design, the new Triton offers four driving modes: gravel, mud, sand, and rock. The SuperSelect 4WD system, electronic stability control, hill descent assist, and hill-start assist are standard, but advanced features like parking assist, lane-keeping assist, front and rear collision warnings, and automatic high beam control are missing. However, the Triton now comes with upgraded features such as cruise control integrated into the steering wheel, Super Select 4WD or Easy-Select 4WD, Hill Descent Control, and off-road support. The top trim also includes a 360-degree camera, lane departure assist, and front parking sensors.
While the new Triton retains the same frame and cabin structure as its predecessor, it includes several new safety features, such as forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear collision alerts, parking sensors, and a multi-view rear camera system. Under the hood, the Triton continues to use the same 2.4 MIVEC Diesel engine from the previous generation, delivering 178 horsepower at 3,500 rpm and 430 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm. This engine features an idle stop-start function to help reduce fuel consumption. Transmission options include a 6-speed automatic (upgraded from the previous 5-speed) or a 6-speed manual.
The Triton competes in the same segment as rivals like the Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado, Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, and Mazda BT-50, all of which are currently available in Vietnam. The 2019 model is expected to hit the market in mid-2019, further intensifying competition in the pickup segment.

5. BMW Series 5
Estimated Price (excluding fees):
- BMW 520i: 2,389,000,000 VND
- BMW 530i: 3,069,000,000 VND
After some delays in 2018, the BMW 5 Series 2019 (G30) has finally arrived at the VICT port, just after Thaco confirmed that the vehicle would be launched in Vietnam after the Lunar New Year. The new 5 Series includes two models, the BMW 530i and BMW 520i, with eye-catching color options like Bluestone, Black Sapphire, Alpine White, and Imperial Blue. The BMW 5 Series has been a cornerstone of the German automaker's lineup for over 40 years and is only surpassed in prestige by the 7 Series. The 7th generation of the 5 Series is built on a platform that combines aluminum and carbon fiber, much like the 7 Series, but without the carbon core. This gives the 2019 5 Series a more spacious interior and competitive edge over rivals, especially in terms of cabin space. Despite its larger size, the new 5 Series is about 100kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks to extensive use of lightweight aluminum in its structure and body panels. Bigger, yet lighter, the 2019 BMW 5 Series offers improved handling and better performance.
The new 5 Series offers a much more refined experience, with significantly improved sound insulation. The noise from the wind, engine, and even tire road noise is minimal inside the cabin. Coupled with the standard suspension system, the 5 Series handles bumps smoothly. However, if you opt for the sportier M Sport variant, you will encounter a stiffer suspension setup at lower speeds. Since BMW’s bold redesign of its vehicles in 2010, the brand has taken a more cautious and conservative approach with its styling, and the 2019 5 Series follows this trend. The overall proportions remain similar to the previous model, but the design is updated with sharper details around the headlights and rear end, inspired by the 2019 7 Series. The 5 Series 2019 stands out with its stylish looks, on par with the Jaguar XF and Mercedes E-Class, but with a superior, more elegant design.
The sophistication of the 2019 BMW 5 Series continues inside, where the cabin features high-quality materials and modern equipment. Standard features include satellite navigation, online services, and premium leather upholstery. BMW has also added thoughtful storage compartments, and rear passengers enjoy ample legroom, comparable to the 7 Series. While the exterior received updates focused on safety, the interior saw a host of improvements. The previous cabin was starting to feel outdated compared to competitors like the Mercedes E-Class, even though it maintained high-quality craftsmanship. The 2019 model brings a more modern and tech-forward design, closely mirroring the larger 7 Series. If you’re not an expert, you might easily mistake the 5 Series interior for the 7 Series, given the similar dashboard layout, gear shift design, premium metal buttons, and a large LCD screen replacing traditional gauges.
True to BMW’s tradition, the 5 Series 2019 is designed to deliver a rewarding and comfortable driving experience. It comes equipped with a suite of advanced safety features, including stability control, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive LED headlights that flash when an emergency stop is required. All variants feature modern LED headlights, six airbags, and the BMW Connected Services, which provide emergency alerts in the event of an accident.
No matter which variant of the 5 Series you choose, you’ll experience a luxury sedan offering smooth rides, excellent balance, and impressive handling. The weight reduction has improved the agility of the sedan, making the 5 Series 2019 feel more nimble and responsive than its predecessor.

The interior is meticulously designed to be elegant, functional, and user-friendly, with a youthful 3-spoke steering wheel wrapped in leather, accented with silver and Shiamoku wood for a refined touch.
Under the hood, while the Lexus ES 350 features a L V6 engine, the ES 250 opts for a more modest 2.5L I4 VVT-I engine with electronic multi-point fuel injection. This engine delivers 204 horsepower and 243Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in under 10 seconds, with a top speed of 207 km/h. The 8-speed automatic transmission replaces the older 6-speed version, improving performance and efficiency.

The front of the 2019 Honda Civic is sleek and athletic. Honda’s design philosophy is evident in the bold chrome grille that covers the front fascia, with a sharp, narrow chrome strip extending to the headlights, emphasizing their sleek and dynamic design. Below the chrome strip, a dark metallic accent runs across the car, blending smoothly with the headlights on both sides. The bumper is bold and aggressive, with modern air intakes that enhance the car’s performance-oriented look. The rear of the Civic stands out as one of the most distinctive and stylish in the C-segment sedan category. The taillights feature a unique, angular design with precise detailing, highlighting the sporty nature of the car. Even the smallest design elements around the rear contribute to the car's cohesive and sleek appearance, with integrated reflectors and a high-mounted brake light for added visibility. Honda has reduced chrome detailing in this model, making the chrome elements in the rear more striking. Additionally, the rear features LED taillights and a high-mounted brake light, with an antenna integrated into the rear windshield.
The new 2019 Honda Civic has updated dimensions of 4,630 x 1,799 x 1,416 mm (L x W x H), with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm and front/rear track widths of 1,547/1,563 mm. The new Hyundai Santa Fe offers two engine options. The 2.4-liter Theta II gasoline engine produces 188 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 241 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.2-liter R CRDi diesel engine generates 202 horsepower at 3,800 rpm and 441 Nm of torque at 1,750-2,750 rpm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive HTRAC system is available on the Special and Premium versions, while the standard version has front-wheel drive.
The Hyundai Santa Fe 2019 will compete with other D-segment SUVs such as the Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner, and Chevrolet Trailblazer. In December 2018, only 35 units of the Hyundai Santa Fe were sold, with a total of 4,644 units sold in 2018.

9. Honda Brio
- Price (excluding fees) in Indonesia (not yet available in Vietnam): from 132.5 to 180 million Rupiah (equivalent to 214 – 291 million VND).
The A-segment car market, traditionally dominated by the Kia Morning and Hyundai i10, has become even more competitive with the arrival of the Toyota Wigo and Suzuki Celerio. Now, the competition heats up further with the launch of the Honda Brio, which made its debut at the 2018 Vietnam Motor Show. This compact urban car is already well-known in Thailand and Indonesia and is expected to reach Vietnam soon. Although Honda Vietnam has yet to announce the official price for the Brio, it is anticipated to be imported from Indonesia, where it is priced between 9,150 to 12,500 USD (approximately 213 to 280 million VND).
The exterior design of the Honda Brio RS version stands out as one of the most attractive in its segment. The large front grille and sporty honeycomb pattern in the lower bumper are bold design choices. The headlights, while stylish, retain a traditional halogen format, with large fog lights adding to the car's rugged look. In comparison, the Wigo and Morning models feature halogen projector headlights, giving them a more advanced lighting appearance, while the Brio and i10 use halogen reflectors.
Most A-segment cars are five-door hatchbacks, but Hyundai i10 also offers a sedan variant, giving customers more options. Similarly, Honda offers a sedan version of the Brio called the Amaze. If Honda brings the Amaze to Vietnam after the Brio, it will provide an additional choice for customers who prefer a sedan.
Inside, the Honda Brio impresses more than the Toyota Wigo but lags behind the Hyundai i10 and Kia Morning in terms of features. The cabin has a youthful vibe, with orange and faux carbon details, and the air vents and plastic materials on the dashboard feel more refined than in the Wigo. The Brio and Wigo both feature three-spoke steering wheels with integrated controls, though the Brio's controls are less balanced compared to the more polished i10 and Morning. A notable feature of the Brio is its button-operated air conditioning controls, whereas the Wigo uses traditional rotary knobs. The Brio offers slightly more convenience with automatic climate control, but the interior space and features still cannot compete with the i10 and Morning. Both the Brio and Wigo lack a push-button start system, although the Wigo offers a larger 7-inch infotainment screen, compared to the Brio's 6.1-inch screen with AUX/USB/Bluetooth/HDMI connectivity and a 4-speaker audio system. The Hyundai i10, however, offers the most advanced features in this segment, including an integrated navigation system and push-button start on higher trims.
Honda has not yet released the technical specifications for the Brio in Vietnam, but the version sold in Indonesia comes in five variants, all featuring a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine with 90 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with either a CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission. However, Honda Vietnam will likely focus on the CVT version to prioritize convenience for drivers, similar to their approach with the locally assembled Honda City. In terms of safety, the Brio offers basic features, such as ABS and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), while the Hyundai i10 remains the leader in safety equipment, with Electronic Stability Control (ESP) included.
The Honda Brio is a compact car with a bold, sporty, and modern design, despite its small size. While its features are adequate, they may not be on par with the competition. If priced well, the Brio could be a strong contender in its segment, much like the Toyota Wigo, as the market is already familiar with the Hyundai i10 and Kia Morning.

10. Honda BR-V
Price (excluding fees) in Malaysia:
- BR-V E variant: 80,989 RM (451 million VND)
- BR-V V variant: 87,700 RM (488 million VND)
Honda Vietnam is considering introducing the BR-V 2019 to compete in the B-segment crossover SUV market. In Southeast Asia, the Honda BR-V directly competes with the Mitsubishi Xpander and Toyota Rush. The 2019 BR-V features a fresh, dynamic design with practicality in mind, boasting overall dimensions of 4453 x 1735 x 1666 mm, making it the largest in its segment.
The front of the 2019 BR-V is striking, with sharp halogen headlights complemented by attractive LED daytime running lights. The large air intake and wide dual-wing grille create an eye-catching front look, with round fog lamps placed neatly underneath. The car's profile features bold muscular lines, large side mirrors with integrated turn signals, but the 16-inch wheels slightly undermine the SUV's rugged appeal.
The rear of the BR-V is distinctive with its rounded shape, sharp-edged taillights, and centrally placed chrome-plated Honda logo. The rear bumper is larger, with integrated reflectors, creating a solid and seamless look.
Inside, the BR-V offers a spacious and elegant cabin, with a 2662 mm wheelbase, high-quality leather upholstery, and a sleek black color scheme. The dashboard is aesthetically designed with sharp cuts and features buttons and a screen angled toward the driver, making it user-friendly. The 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel has integrated controls, and the instrument cluster provides clear, balanced lighting. A standout interior feature is the clever seating arrangement, where the third-row seats are slightly higher than the front, offering better visibility. The cabin is equipped with automatic air conditioning and rear-seat vents, ensuring quick and effective cooling.
Under the hood, the BR-V is powered by a 1.5L SOHC i-VTEC engine, producing 120 horsepower at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4600 rpm. The BR-V offers solid performance and durability, ensuring an enjoyable driving experience.
The Honda BR-V 2019 incorporates Honda's Earth Dreams technology, an advanced VTEC engine with variable valve timing that helps achieve impressive fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance. The BR-V consumes just 6.9L of fuel per 100 km in combined driving, which is excellent for a compact SUV. Safety features include ABS, EBD, VSA electronic stability control, HSA hill start assist, 4 airbags, and a rearview camera, earning it a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.
Although the BR-V has not yet launched in Vietnam, it is already proving to be a strong contender with its powerful engine, appealing design, and practical features. With these advantages, the BR-V is sure to impress Vietnamese customers when it finally arrives.
