1. The S-Shaped Road
The S-Shaped Road is located in Long Luong commune, Van Ho district. This popular road for travelers is named after its distinctive S-shape. Previously part of Moc Chau, it is now administratively part of Van Ho district. The road, made of smooth concrete, curves gracefully in an S shape. Unlike other mountain passes, it doesn't feel dangerous, with gentle slopes and winding turns. For adventure lovers, there’s no better experience than driving through these winding roads surrounded by the fresh mountain air, fragrant plum and peach blossoms, and the beautiful sight of mustard flowers in Moc Chau. The best time to visit is from now until the end of the year, when the flowers are in full bloom, and the weather is perfect for travelers. The road is safe to travel on, though beware of fog and sharp turns, particularly when passing through Thung Khe pass.
The S-Shaped Road has become a popular destination for tourists, especially for those who love exploring. Travelers often stop along the road to take pictures and admire the stunning scenery. The unique curve of the road stands out, and it’s surrounded by lush green mountains, fields, and trees. 2. Hua Tat Pass
While Moc Chau Plateau and its famous Heart-Shaped Tea Hill are well-known stops for tourists, in recent years, the small village of Hua Tat has become a rising star on the route connecting the highland provinces of Northwest Vietnam. Located around 30 km from Moc Chau town, Hua Tat offers a quiet escape, especially in May when the area is alive with the red hues of peach and plum orchards during harvest season, even though there are no colorful peach, pear, or mustard flowers in bloom. The area has attracted not only backpackers but also tour companies bringing visitors to rest and explore. Many travelers who have crossed the Hua Tat Pass share a common impression of its remoteness and solitude, with not a soul in sight. However, those passing through the pass will be mesmerized by the breathtaking natural beauty, particularly as they journey through Van Ho.
The road to the pass is winding, narrow, and treacherous, with sharp inclines and sudden descents, making it a potentially dangerous path. The standout feature of the Hua Tat Pass is its seclusion. Yet, the journey through the pass offers a delightful surprise when travelers reach the Van Ho area, where fields of bright white mustard flowers blanket the landscape. Hua Tat Pass is an old, neglected road that has long been forgotten by many. The quiet scenery along the pass is marked by isolated wooden houses perched on hillsides, surrounded by harvested cornfields, with only bare tree stumps standing tall like skewers in the hills. The surrounding hills are rugged, painted in shades of yellow from wild grass and the light purple of dogweed, creating a vast, serene green expanse.

From a distance, the scene resembles a painted landscape, with scattered traditional stilt houses peeking out beneath the dense green foliage. The tranquil Ban Ang Lake, lying beside the forest, reflects the surrounding beauty like a mirror. Here, you can rent pedal boats, relax, breathe in the fresh air, or simply enjoy a romantic sunset by the lake, making it feel like a scene straight out of a Korean drama.

4. Dai Yem Waterfall
Moc Chau Plateau is renowned as one of the most expansive and beautiful plateaus in the Northwest region of Vietnam. It is distinguished by its majestic mountains, winding roads that hug the hillsides, and thick mist that creates a surreal, captivating atmosphere. One of the true treasures of Moc Chau is the Dai Yem Waterfall, a must-see for all visitors. Also known as “The Maiden Waterfall” or “Ban Vat Waterfall,” it is located in Muong La commune, Moc Chau district, Son La province. According to local legend, the waterfall is named after the garment of a young girl who saved a man from the floodwaters. The waterfall is located about 5 km from Moc Chau’s center, along National Route 43 toward the Long Sap border gate. You can take a car to the Pa Hang intersection or follow a 4 km path along the stream to the point where two rivers converge and reach the waterfall.
Dai Yem Waterfall is situated on the Vatt Stream, which originates from two springs, Bo Co Lam and Bo Ta Chau, in the Ban Vat village—a historic Thai village. After flowing for about 5 km, the stream joins with another larger river from the Bo Sap village, near the Vietnam-Laos border. The combined waters meet a limestone cliff, cascading down to form the majestic Dai Yem Waterfall. Standing at over 100 meters tall, the waterfall is divided into two parts: the upper section spans more than 70 meters and has 9 tiers (representing the “9 levels of love” from the legend), while the lower section, located about 200 meters away, has 5 tiers. The two parts are separated by a flat area, which offers visitors the perfect spot to take in the stunning views.

5. Son Moc Huong Cave
Son Moc Huong Cave, also known as Bat Cave or the 'Number One Cave of the West Heaven,' is one of the most stunning caves in Son La province. It is a natural limestone cave located beneath a mountain range in the northeastern part of Moc Chau Town. With an area of 6,915m², the cave was originally called Sa Lai Cave (Water Cave) by the Thai people because it harbors a large, clear, and cool underground water source that flows year-round, supplying water to the town. The cave got its current name, Son Moc Huong, after large colonies of bats once lived there, though they have since migrated. According to legend, a dragon traveling across the skies stopped in this beautiful area, which reminded it of a paradise. The dragon, grateful for the serene surroundings, left behind seven magical pearls, each forming a mountain that now surrounds the cave.
Son Moc Huong Cave is a place where the scenery transforms dramatically throughout the day, from the pure white light of dawn to the vibrant green at noon, fiery red in the afternoon, and the deep purple at sunset. The cave, shaped by the karst limestone geology over thousands of years, consists of three large chambers that are both spacious and breathtaking. The cave’s ceiling is adorned with magnificent stalactites that shimmer in a spectrum of seven colors, some formations hanging as much as 20 meters from the ceiling. Inside the cave, there is a large dry lake covering about 200m², with a giant stone turtle in the center and a stone carving of a couple embracing on the left side. Visitors with vivid imaginations might also see shapes resembling an elephant, a lion, a tiger, a lizard, and even ritual offerings like a plate of sticky rice, chicken, or rice wine bottles.

6. Lam Vien Tay Tien
Lam Vien Tay Tien is a historical site dedicated to the 52nd Regiment of Tay Tien. It was established in 2006 at Na Bo Hill, Moc Chau town, and has since been recognized as a provincial historical-cultural and scenic site. When visiting Moc Chau, be sure to stop by this important landmark. The memorial site was inspired by the famous poem "Tay Tien" by poet Quang Dung. At Lam Vien Tay Tien, you can reflect on the enduring values of life held by soldiers of the Ho Chi Minh army and pay tribute to the brave soldiers of the 52nd Regiment who fought valiantly for their country. The site consists of three main areas: a memorial stone tablet, a contemplation pavilion, and a monument hall. Additionally, there are four other structures that help visitors fully understand the indomitable spirit of the wartime soldiers.
The traditional house in the memorial is built in the style of a stilt house, typical of the ethnic minorities of the Northwest region. Inside, the space is divided into sections dedicated to commemorating General Vo Nguyen Giap, displaying historical photos and artifacts from the Tay Tien brigade both past and present, and recreating the image of the Tay Tien soldiers of old. The pathway leading up to the memorial features 52 steps designed in a zigzag pattern, symbolizing the arduous journey the soldiers endured on their march. Upon reaching the top, you will find the most important and scenic part of the memorial. The main structure of the Lam Vien Tay Tien is rectangular in shape, surrounded by five relief sculptures depicting the story of the Tay Tien soldiers bidding farewell to Hanoi before heading off to fulfill their mission. These five beautifully crafted statues are intertwined with five poignant stories of the soldiers' lives, offering a reflection on the sacrifices made during this glorious chapter of history.

7. Ngũ động Bản Ôn
Ngũ động Bản Ôn is a stunning natural site discovered by the local ethnic people of Moc Chau plateau after a historic flood in 2006. While it is now part of Moc Chau's list of must-see tourist spots, its challenging terrain has kept it relatively unknown to many visitors. This seclusion has allowed the site to preserve its untouched beauty. The area remains in its pristine state due to the lack of significant development and investment. The paths to the site are narrow, winding, and often made by locals, adding to the adventurous spirit of the journey. However, the reward is the serene, dreamlike beauty of the lush tea hills, stacked in perfect layers that resemble gentle green waves glistening under the morning sun, with winding paths that look like ribbons of silk scattered across the landscape.
No matter when you visit Moc Chau, you’ll be treated to a vibrant display of colorful flowers: the brilliant yellow of daisies, the striking red of poinsettias, and the pure white of the cabbage flowers, creating a breathtaking scene. The Ngũ động Bản Ôn complex features four main caves on a single hill, with the fourth cave isolated to the left, requiring a longer trek that deters many tourists. If you plan to explore the entire area, set aside a full day for your adventure. Be prepared for a challenging hike through narrow, steep forest paths, which will require both time and effort. This place is an ideal destination for anyone looking for a hiking adventure in Moc Chau, as the beauty of the landscape and the untouched surroundings provide a sense of excitement and discovery. There is a small hut near the entrance of the cave, built by the locals as a resting place for those tending livestock on the mountainside. It also serves as a perfect resting point for travelers after a long trek through Ngũ động Bản Ôn.

8. Bản Pa Phách
Located along National Highway 6, near restaurant 70 and about 5km from the Moc Chau town intersection, Pa Phach Village is perched on a mountain, surrounded by two limestone ranges and dense, untouched forests. This is a must-visit spot for any traveler to Moc Chau. To reach Pa Phach Village, all you need is an old motorbike. Simply head towards Moc Chau and ask the locals for directions. Once you spot the Moc Chau Tea Company sign, take the small road opposite. When you see fields of flowers stretching across the mountains, you will have arrived. Keep in mind that the path to the village is quite treacherous, with steep climbs that will leave you sweating. The red dirt roads become slippery during the rainy season, so drive carefully, and if you're confident in your riding skills, take the wheel. Despite the challenging road, the view from the top is worth every bit of effort. From here, you'll see a valley filled with lush green vegetation, with Mong houses hidden among the trees. To the side, the Moc Chau plateau extends as far as the eye can see, dotted with green fields, cornfields, and peaceful herds of dairy cows grazing. The peacefulness of this place is truly breathtaking.
Pa Phach Village is nestled within a valley, almost completely isolated from the outside world due to the difficult roads. This isolation has allowed the village to retain its pristine charm, despite being so close to the town. You can immerse yourself in the vastness of nature, breathing in the fresh, pure air of the highlands and letting all your stress melt away. It's hard to find a more romantic and refreshing scene than the Pa Phach mustard flower gardens. Here, the green mustard fields bloom with white flowers, creating a picturesque landscape where the mountains meet the clouds, and everything is bathed in the soft light of the sun. The blend of nature’s colors forms a stunning masterpiece that is hard to find anywhere else. During harvest season, you can even help the farmers pick mustard flowers, which is an exciting and unique experience. Enjoying the clean, fresh air of the Northwest while admiring the vibrant white flowers against the lush green leaves is an experience you won’t forget. So if you’re planning a trip to the Northwest, don’t miss this hidden gem.

10. Heart-shaped Tea Hill
Moc Chau is the most beautiful and expansive plateau in the northern mountains, located in Son La province. Often referred to as the 'Da Lat of the North,' this region is famous for its majestic Dai Yem Waterfall, vast fields of pure white mustard flowers, and forests blanketed with peach and plum blossoms during spring. But what truly captivates visitors is the ultra-romantic Heart-shaped Tea Hill. This unique name comes from its location in a joint venture farm with Taiwan, just 10km from Moc Chau town. On weekends, the tea hill attracts many visitors who come for sightseeing and photography. Tea picking season lasts almost all year, except for the months of January, February, and March when the bushes are trimmed to await the new crop. Therefore, visiting during the peak season is recommended to fully enjoy the stunning, lush tea hills. The expansive tea fields provide the perfect backdrop for those looking to capture beautiful photos for social media.
The Heart-shaped Tea Hill is also a popular spot for couples to take their wedding photos, preserving the most beautiful moments of their lives. Moc Suong's Oolong Tea Hill, also known as Tan Lap Tea Hill, is the largest private tea farm in Moc Chau, owned by Mr. Suong’s family. At the top of the hill is a tea processing factory. Nestled within the vast tea fields, a small patch of tea plants is shaped like a heart, which holds special sentimental value as it marks the love story of Mr. Suong and his wife. The best time to visit for a “like-worthy” photo shoot is early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the mist hangs over the perfectly manicured green rows of tea, creating a dreamy and surreal atmosphere. Just 1km away, a massive mustard flower valley spreads out, and if you visit during October or November, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in this golden and white flower sea.
