They are widely distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific region, from East Africa to Australia and Japan. In Vietnam, they are commonly referred to as 'egg clams' or 'round clams.' Mature blood cockles measure about 5-6 cm in length and 4-5 cm in width. The Bình Đại region in Bến Tre Province is where blood cockles are most abundant in Vietnam.
