Researchers at the University of Kansas had women at high risk of breast cancer consume a tablespoon of ground flaxseeds daily for a year and found that precancerous changes in breast tissue decreased on average. Comparing 3000 breast cancer patients with 3000 healthy women, a study published in the journal Cancer Causes and Control revealed that consuming flaxseeds was associated with a 20-30% reduction in breast cancer risk. Researchers concluded that even a small amount of flaxseeds could provide sufficient lignans to help reduce the risk of breast cancer.


Duckweed is a member of the spinach family, historically cultivated in Persia thousands of years ago, then introduced to China about 1,500 years ago. Centuries later, this vegetable made its way to Europe and quickly became a staple in many delicious dishes. Duckweed is a leafy green vegetable rich in minerals such as potassium, zinc, magnesium, iron, calcium, and vitamins including folate, niacin, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), and many other essential vitamins. It is a healthful vegetable with low fat content, ideal for preparing dishes like salads, stir-fries, soups, and egg dishes. Numerous reports suggest that duckweed possesses antioxidant properties, contributing significantly to cancer prevention, heart disease prevention, age-related macular degeneration, immune system and nervous system degeneration. Various components in duckweed such as folate, tocopherol, and chlorophyllin are highly beneficial in treating and protecting cancer patients, including bladder cancer, prostate cancer, liver cancer, and lung cancer. Duckweed is rich in beta-carotene and lutein, two antioxidant compounds. Researchers from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences found that women who consume duckweed more than twice a week have a lower risk of developing breast cancer compared to those who do not consume duckweed.

Currently, experts have not been able to determine the amount of elagitanin needed to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in the human body. However, scientists also believe that supplementing elagitanin only through pomegranates and foods containing it is not enough to produce the desired effect.
