1. Hanoi University of Science and Technology
The incident occurred around 2:00 PM on November 8, 2015, at D3 Building, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Witnesses present at the time of the tragedy reported that the young man appeared to be in a sorrowful mood moments before the event and was heading up the stairs to the lecture hall. “Before the incident, he was seen walking up the stairs. After a few minutes, we heard a loud sound coming from the courtyard behind the D3 building. When we checked, we found the young man lying motionless on the ground,” one student recalled.
According to some students, the victim had been seen a few days prior looking very downcast while holding a book and pacing the third-floor hallway of the building. Several others mentioned that the young man was a graduate student. “I didn't think much of it because he was a graduate student. Today, I saw him again wearing the same clothes and sandals,” one student said. Tran Van Q, a senior Electrical Engineering student at the university, was among those who witnessed the fall. “I was on the fourth floor when I heard the noise and turned to see a young man falling to the ground. Some graduate students who were there said they had seen him sitting listlessly on the fifth floor earlier. I called for an ambulance and informed the security staff,” he recalled. After the incident, the university security and police arrived at the scene. A suicide note was discovered at the scene, with the victim apologizing to his parents and expressing his intent to end his life. The victim was identified as Le Thanh T., born in 1990, from Ha Long, Quang Ninh. Initial investigations revealed he had previously attended the university but had dropped out due to depression.

On October 16, 2014, the police in Hai Ba Trung District (Hanoi) confirmed the identity of the woman found dead at the National Economics University's dormitory. Nguyen Thi Trang, 30 years old from Hoang Mai District, Hanoi, died by suicide. Before the incident, at around 8:00 PM on October 10, some male students from the dormitory saw a woman, about 30 years old, sitting by the door of room 409, crying. The following morning, around 5:00 AM, Trang was discovered unconscious on the dormitory grounds. An autopsy revealed she had been dead for some time. After investigation, the police found 100,000 VND and two bus tickets on the victim. Three days later, her family contacted the police to retrieve her body for burial. The case is still under investigation.
Police also discovered two bus tickets with routes originating from Co Nhue (Bac Tu Liem) and 100,000 VND in cash. Three days later, Trang's family came to claim her body for burial. Trang had previously been a student at the National Economics University and had just returned from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. According to her relatives, she had been experiencing signs of depression and sadness, likely due to difficulties finding employment.

3. Dormitory - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City
In mid-2010, news broke about a disturbing incident involving a first-year female student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City. She was reportedly assaulted by four construction workers in the dormitory complex at the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, sparking outrage among the university's 10,000 students residing in the dormitory in Di An, Binh Duong Province.
A second-year student from the Department of Eastern Studies at the university shared: “Since the expansion of the dormitory complex with additional housing for students, the situation has become more complicated, with workers entering and leaving the area unpredictably. Normally, security in the dorms was good, but I heard that the incident occurred in Block A16, and we even found a bloodstain near Block A8 a couple of weeks later…”
Another first-year student, T.T.A from the University of Science in Ho Chi Minh City, also agreed, noting that the presence of construction workers had led to an increase in thefts and security issues. However, Tran Thanh An, the director of the dormitory management center at Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, dismissed these concerns as mere rumors, saying, “Every year during mid-term exams or the enrollment period, we face similar rumors.” In room 522 (on the fifth floor of the women’s dormitory), first-year student Ngo Thao Trang heard several unsettling stories from her seniors, including one about a death in room 520 next door. “When I first heard these stories, I was really scared, especially when so many upperclassmen mentioned it,” Trang said. Not only the female students, but also male students reported hearing stories about a ‘ghost’ in a white dress wandering the hallways, and some claimed to have experienced dreams where they were choked while sleeping. One second-year student from the Automotive Department said that from the moment he arrived, he had heard rumors about strange occurrences in the dormitory. Even local residents had shared stories of unusual phenomena, and some older people believed the dormitory was “unlucky,” with incense offerings made in some rooms during its early days.

4. Student Dies After Falling at Hanoi University of Architecture
On the evening of July 10, students at Hanoi University of Architecture were stunned when they witnessed a male student fall from a high floor onto the university grounds. The incident quickly prompted alarm, and school officials were notified. The victim was identified as Nguyen A.D., a 19-year-old first-year student at the Hanoi University of Posts and Telecommunications, originally from Bim Son, Thanh Hoa.
Initial investigations showed that A.D. had left his backpack and shoes on the 13th floor before falling to his death. His body was taken to the morgue at Ha Dong District Hospital for identification. His uncle, Mai Van Vinh, and other relatives, who traveled nearly 200 kilometers from Thanh Hoa to Hanoi, were devastated upon learning of his death. “By the time we arrived, he had already passed. It’s heartbreaking,” Vinh recalled. “Just three months ago, he was here for his mother’s memorial, laughing and chatting with the family. We don’t know why this happened.”
A.D. was the second child in a family of two siblings. His mother tragically died when he was just two years old after falling from a hospital in Thanh Hoa. Since then, A.D. and his sister had been cared for by their father and extended family. “A.D. was always a good student,” Vinh said. “But after his sister dropped out due to mental illness, and their father disappeared years ago, it became hard for the family to support them.” A.D.’s uncle, Nguyen Van Tuyen, had been raising the siblings in place of their father, managing their school expenses and daily needs. “I had prepared his room for the summer, never imagining this would happen,” Tuyen said tearfully.
When the family arrived in Hanoi, they were shocked to see A.D.’s body, severely injured from the fall. Tuyen, who had always treated A.D. as his own child, was overwhelmed with grief. “Just a month ago, he was home with us, and now we’re hearing this tragic news,” Tuyen said. “He had already suffered so much, losing his mother so young, and I always cared for him like my own son.” Tuyen tearfully added, “Just a week ago, he called me, sounding fine. He said he would come home after exams for the summer. I had everything ready for him. I never imagined this would happen.” The family declined the police’s offer to perform an autopsy and chose instead to bring A.D.’s body back home for burial. Funeral plans were set for July 11.

After the attack, witnesses claimed they saw the assailants fleeing the scene, while the victim, stabbed in the chest, died on the way to the hospital. It was later revealed that the deceased was the class president of one of the university's courses.
The exact motive behind the murder and the identities of both the victim and the attacker are still under investigation by the authorities. According to security staff and witnesses, the attackers were four unidentified individuals who had entered the campus.
In a statement to an online news outlet, Vu Van Hoa, the vice president of HUBT, confirmed that the authorities were conducting an autopsy as part of their investigation, but no specific details were available at the time.

7. Dormitory of the University of Labour and Social Affairs – Ho Chi Minh City Campus
On August 13, 2013, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Department continued to collaborate with experts to perform an autopsy on the body of Cao Thanh Luong (born 1989, from Nghe An Province), a fourth-year Human Resource Management student at the University of Labour and Social Affairs, to determine the cause of his death.
Preliminary reports state that on the afternoon of August 12, at approximately 4:15 PM, Nguyễn Văn Thất, the dormitory manager, and a student named Thương were inspecting the C3 dormitory at the back of the university. Upon reaching room 14 on the first floor, they noticed the ceiling fan still running and a faint figure inside. This was unusual as all rooms on the first floor had been sealed with wire by the dormitory management. Upon entering, the two were shocked to find a young man’s body hanging with his feet barely touching the floor, blood from his mouth and nose, a swollen face, and his body appearing bruised and discolored. Students later confirmed that the deceased was Luong.
According to staff at the university, Luong had lived in the dormitory from 2009 to 2011 before renting a room outside the campus, and recently worked in Binh Duong. He had not yet graduated due to failing an English course and needing to retake an exam. On the morning of August 12, Luong used his student ID to enter the campus and accessed dormitory C3, where he cut the seal on room 14 and moved in. The discovery of the incident came later that afternoon.

8. HUTECH University – Ho Chi Minh City
On the evening of October 17, 2017, at around 6:30 PM, HUTECH University unexpectedly closed its gates, leaving many students confused. Later that evening, the Bình Thạnh district police confirmed that a male student had died in the university courtyard, allegedly struck by falling concrete. By 7:45 PM, the victim's body was removed from the campus. The grieving mother of the deceased, Nguyễn Thanh Long, tragically asked, 'Why did my son go to school, only to die?' Long, who had been helping his parents raise two younger siblings while also attending evening classes at HUTECH, was struck by a concrete slab that fell from above, taking the life of this vital family figure.
The spot in the HUTECH courtyard where the student passed away was identified as the junction between two roof sections on the highest floor of Building B. The unexpected loss deeply saddened his family, teachers, and friends. HUTECH officials confirmed that after the tragic accident, they invited construction experts to repair the area where the concrete had fallen.
Some construction students from HUTECH who inspected the area speculated that water damage might have caused the concrete slab to detach. They pointed out signs of water leakage, including dark stains and a crack extending about one meter along the wall. The remnants of the concrete slab still showed visible signs of damage, and this area was located along the edge of the building's roof. However, some online construction experts suggested that the cause of the falling debris could have been due to the university sealing off the building's 'breathing holes.'
