1. Dai Yem Waterfall
Moc Chau Plateau is famous as the largest and most picturesque plateau in the Northwestern region. Its dramatic mountain landscapes, winding roads hugging steep hillsides, and thick mist create a mesmerizing beauty that captivates visitors. Among the many natural wonders here, one of the most enchanting is Dai Yem Waterfall.
Also known as 'Nang Waterfall' or 'Ban Vat Waterfall,' Dai Yem is named after a legend in which the waterfall is the 'sash' of a girl who saved a young man from the floodwaters. The waterfall is located about 5 km from the center of Moc Chau district, along National Road 43 heading towards the Long Sap border gate. From the Pa Hang intersection, you can either take the main road by car or follow a 4 km trail along the stream until you reach the confluence of two rivers, where the waterfall is situated.
The waterfall sits on the Vatt Stream, which originates from two water sources: Bo Co Lam and Bo Ta Chau, located in Vat village – a historic Thai village. After flowing for about 5 km, the stream merges with a larger watercourse originating from the Bo Sap village (near the Vietnam-Laos border). At the confluence of these two streams, the water cascades down a limestone mountain, creating the majestic Dai Yem Waterfall. With a height of over 100 meters, the waterfall is divided into two main sections. The upper falls span over 70 meters and feature 9 tiers (reminiscent of the '9 steps of love' from the legend), while the lower section has 5 tiers and is about 200 meters away. A flat area between the two sections provides a perfect spot for sightseeing and enjoying the scenic beauty of the falls.
