1. Law Department
Law Department is one of the 11 specialized departments of Hanoi Open University, established according to Decision No. 1050/GD-ĐT dated 28/03/1995 by the Minister of Education and Training. From 1995 until now, the Law Department has trained more than 32,000 law graduates through various forms of formal training, associate degrees, and distance learning. Currently, the department offers training in 3 majors: Law, Economic Law, and International Law.
After many years of construction and development, Law Department has built a team of full-time faculty and visiting lecturers, mainly consisting of Professors, Associate Professors, Doctors, Masters, many of whom have deep professional expertise and practical legal knowledge, such as judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and are very dedicated to the cause of education and training. Graduates can work in enterprises, company offices, law firms, or state management agencies.
In addition, graduates can work in business companies, sales, human resource management, or legal newspapers. Studying at the Law Department of Hanoi Open University, students acquire legal thinking as the main focus, enabling them to flexibly and effectively apply it in various situations.


2. Economics Department
Economics Department - Hanoi Open University was established under Decision No. 2653/QD-TCCB dated 01/12/1993 of the Ministry of Education and Training. The functions and tasks of the Department are updated in Decision No. 5891/QD-DHM dated 23/12/2021 of Hanoi Open University.
The Economics Department has the main task of implementing degree programs; conducting scientific research and knowledge transfer in the field of economics. The Department is empowered to autonomously perform professional tasks, take primary responsibility for training results, scientific research, and efficient use of resources. The Economics Department offers 03 majors: Accounting, Business Administration, E-Commerce oriented. Graduates have the ability to work in various socio-economic fields, easily adapting to labor market fluctuations. With a professional educational environment, dedicated faculty members with qualifications, and attracting a large number of professors, Associate Professors, PhDs leading researchers at research institutes, academies, domestic universities, the Economics Department's brand has been chosen by tens of thousands of students for nearly 30 years.
Currently, the Economics Department is training undergraduate degrees in the following majors: Accounting, Business Administration, E-Commerce. These are majors with the highest entrance scores at Hanoi Open University. Especially, after graduating from undergraduate level, students of the majors trained at the Economics Department have the opportunity to pursue master's degrees in Accounting, Business Administration right at the Department.
The Department's classrooms meet the standards of higher education institutions accredited by the Ministry of Education and Training in 2017. Modern classrooms are equipped with projector systems, sound, free wifi to support effective learning. The library with full types of textbooks, electronic learning materials serves learning and scientific research. Classroom area suitable for each subject, comfortable learning space, ensuring high-quality professional teaching and learning activities in the classroom. Especially, with the motto 'Students are the center', modern, active training methods, interactive Teacher - Student, teaching theory combined with internships, practice at enterprises, training professional development skills, students of the Economics Department can work from the 3rd, 4th year before graduation.

3. Information Technology Department
The Faculty of Computer Science at Hanoi Open University (FITHOU) was established by the Ministry of Education and Training under Decision No. 2653/QD-TCCB dated 01/12/1993. Since 2011, the Faculty has officially been named Faculty of Information Technology according to Decision No. 71/QD-DHM-TC dated 29/03/2011 by the Rector of Hanoi Open University.
Currently, the lecture halls of the Faculty of Information Technology are located at 96 Dinh Cong Street, Hoang Mai District, Hanoi, with 10 classrooms and an auditorium, 3 specialized computer laboratories, a library reading room, and self-study space for students with over 1000 specialized books, reference materials, magazines serving students' learning and faculty research. The faculty teaching staff includes over 80 permanent staff (tenured, long-term contract) and collaborators, guest lecturers with deep professional expertise, solid knowledge, and skills, always passionate about the profession and ready to meet teaching requirements according to practical needs.
The Faculty has compiled and published over 100 volumes of reference books, textbooks, and study guides serving all students in learning and research. The collective of faculty members at the Faculty has been conducting numerous research projects, publishing works in forums, conferences, specialized journals. In addition, the Faculty has designed, developed, and implemented many software systems for teaching and management tasks within the university as well as software for other organizations, units. After many years of operation and teaching, to date, the Faculty has trained and provided over 7000 IT engineers to society with solid professional qualifications, good skills, meeting job demands in the IT field of the labor market. Most alumni are performing well in organizations, units at home and abroad, with many alumni holding leadership positions, assuming important responsibilities.


4. Department of Chinese Studies
Department of Chinese Studies was established under Decision No. 350/QD-DHM-TC dated 28/07/2011 by Hanoi Open University (now Hanoi Open University), it is a young department, but the faculty and students of the Department of Chinese Studies have always made clear progress in the process of forming and building the 'human cultivation' career of Hanoi Open University in particular and the Department in particular.
For many years, the Department has continuously improved its faculty, teaching quality, training scale, and developed academic exchange cooperation, student exchange with universities in China. 100% of the faculty are trained to master's standards at leading universities in China and Vietnam, have extensive experience in teaching, research; passionate about the profession, dedicated to the job.
Every year, 10% of students from the Department receive government scholarships from China worth from 30 million VND to 300 million VND to study for master's, bachelor's degrees, or internships at universities in China. Department of Chinese Studies is always passionate about developing highly applicable training programs for students, creating more new learning methods for students to maximize their potential. The Department has links with some prestigious universities in China such as Guangxi University, South China University of Technology, Trung Khanh University of Technology, and Electronics Quang Nam University to organize annual Chinese language exchange programs to enhance language skills as well as practical communication skills for students.

5. Department of English
Department of English was established under Decision No. 2653/QD-TCCB dated 01/12/1993 by the Minister of Education and Training. The training objective of the English Department is to train Bachelor's degree in English with sufficient knowledge, professional skills, political qualities, professional manners, and health to be able to work effectively in specialized fields using English, meeting social requirements during international integration.
Department of English actively participates in many scientific research activities such as registering, implementing scientific topics at all levels, collaborating with some newspapers, specialized journals, organizing specialized workshops with the participation of many speakers from universities, research centers at home and abroad. In addition, every year, faculty members in the Department participate in compiling and upgrading curriculum to suit new requirements. The English Department has a team of lecturers with master's degrees or higher, with extensive experience in teaching and research.
When students study at the English Department, they are always provided with the best conditions to maximize their individual abilities. In addition to scientific research activities such as participating in scientific conferences, students also participate in many cultural activities.


6. Department of Finance - Banking
The Department of Finance - Banking, established on 28/02/2008, has been training over 5000 students in regular university and college programs with hundreds of full-time lecturers and top guest lecturers from universities nationwide. The Department was established with the aim of organizing and implementing training activities, scientific research, consultancy, and international cooperation in the field of finance - banking within the framework of activities of Hanoi Open University.
The tasks of the Department of Finance - Banking:
- Regular training, bachelor's degree, blended learning, and distance learning (based on coordination with the Distance Learning Department) at the university level in the fields of Finance and Banking.
- Short-term training and refresher courses on financial and banking topics.
- Research and consultancy on training, legal matters, market research, strategic planning in the field of Finance and Banking.
- International cooperation in training and scientific research in the field of Finance and Banking within the framework.
Students of the Department of Finance - Banking are provided with knowledge of financial analysis and investment in capital markets, currency markets in the process of globalization; Master solid knowledge of practicing business in modern commercial banks; have specialized skills in analysis, forecasting related to finance, currency to make decisions in financial management. In addition, learners are also trained in resilience and ability to self-research when encountering new issues, confronting and responding sensitively to financial and currency-related risks. Studying in the Finance and Banking sector, students are equipped with specific subjects such as: Microeconomics, Financial Theory, Corporate Finance, International Finance, Commercial Banking, Securities Market, Corporate Accounting, ... In addition, students are also equipped with necessary soft skills to meet job requirements such as communication skills with customers, product introduction, persuading customers, time management skills, critical thinking, analytical skills, teamwork skills, ...
In addition, emphasis is placed on English training, internships at banks, financial institutions to ensure that students have comprehensive development opportunities, become outstanding individuals when integrating into a dynamic and highly competitive working environment.


7. Department of Electrical Engineering
Department of Electrical Engineering at the Hanoi Open University was established on December 12, 1998, under the decision No. 4992/QĐ-BGD&ĐT of the Minister of Education & Training. With a leadership board and teachers who are qualified, experienced, and reputable, along with guest lecturers from major universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Military Technical Academy, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, and scientists from research institutes, science and technology centers, corporations, radio and television stations…, the Department has grown strong, offering basic and advanced theoretical and practical training programs. The Department of Electrical Engineering at Hanoi Open University has developed into a robust institution, offering training programs from college to university level, suitable for learners of all backgrounds and time constraints.
The Department of Electrical Engineering is a quality and reputable training institution, offering programs for Bachelor's and Engineering degrees in Telecommunications Electronics and Control & Automation, meeting the needs of industrialization and modernization of the country. Currently, the Department has 42 full-time and contract lecturers, including 04 Associate Professors, 19 PhDs, 18 Masters, and 01 Bachelor's degree holder. The teaching staff is experienced, with many achievements in scientific research, dedicating themselves to the cause of education and training. Additionally, the Department invites a team of guest lecturers who are leading experts from universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, University of Engineering and Technology, Military Technical Academy, … to supplement the teaching staff for the department's training programs.


8. Department of Tourism
Department of Tourism at Hanoi Open University is one of the first Tourism Departments established in the country, according to Decision No. 2653/TCCB-GD&ĐT dated 01/12/1993 by the Minister of Education & Training.
With outstanding efforts from the faculty and students, numerous challenges have been swiftly overcome. The Department has gradually evolved into a leading training institution, nurturing top-notch human resources for the Tourism industry. It continuously adjusts its training programs and curriculum to suit the country's development and the Tourism industry, regularly organizing extracurricular activities for students such as hotel business competitions, tour guide competitions, English proficiency exams…; actively engaging in scientific research activities and project participation. Currently, the tourism department has adequate, modern facilities and equipment for teaching and learning. Teaching, learning, and examination management processes are strictly implemented according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education & Training and Hanoi Open University. The quality of graduates from the tourism department is widely accepted by society, and the department has gradually affirmed its brand.
It is the tireless efforts and the achievements of the Department of Tourism at Hanoi Open University (formerly Hanoi Open University Institute) that have earned it the honor of being chosen by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism as the only institution authorized to conduct certification and issuance of tour guide certificates since 2010. In addition, student management at the tourism department is arguably the best compared to other departments at Hanoi Open University. The employment rate of graduates has been increasing year by year, reflecting the excellent quality of education provided by the department.


9. Department of Industrial Design
Department of Industrial Design was established under Decision No. 2653/TCCB dated 01/12/1993 by the Minister of Education and Training. As part of the departments of a Public University, the Department is tasked with training designers at the university level and conducting scientific research in industrial art design fields.
Throughout years of training, Department of Industrial Design has affirmed its brand of quality, producing talented designers and becoming one of the leading applied art training units in Vietnam. With a team of highly qualified faculty members and a scientific advisory board comprising leading professors, PhDs, and renowned designers domestically and internationally, who are dedicated and passionate about guidance and teaching. Currently, the department focuses on training in two main fields:
- Industrial Design: Interior Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design
- Architecture

10. Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology
Department of Biotechnology, Hanoi Open University was established under Decision No. 2653/QĐ-TCCB dated 01/12/1993 by the Minister of Education and Training. According to Resolution No. 18/CP dated 11/03/94 of the Government; Directive 50 - CT/TW of the Central Party Committee on promoting the development of biotechnology, biotechnology is one of the four priority technological directions for long-term development. With investments in infrastructure, encouragement of scientific research, and the striving efforts of the faculty, the Department of Biotechnology has gradually grown, made significant contributions to the development of Vietnam's biotechnology industry, and become a reliable address for training undergraduate biotechnology professionals. On August 15, 2022, the Department of Biotechnology was officially renamed Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology under Decision No. 2828/QĐ-ĐHM by the Rector of Hanoi Open University on the establishment of the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology based on the reorganization of the Department of Biotechnology.
Currently, the number of full-time lecturers at Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology is 16, including 01 Associate Professor, 9 Doctors, Masters, and 5 Masters. The lecturers at the Institute are individuals with good moral qualities, passionate about their profession, dedicated to their work, and have achieved some individual and collective titles such as Soldiers of grassroots emulation, Collective commendation for excellent completion of tasks by the Ministry of Education and Training, etc. The Institute also invites over 50 guest lecturers with extensive experience in teaching and scientific research from research institutes, universities such as the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Institute of Food Technology, etc.
The Institute has trained more than 3500 engineers/bachelors in biotechnology and food technology. Many graduates are working in companies, research institutes in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, or continuing their postgraduate studies and teaching at some domestic universities. The Institute has been and is currently training postgraduate programs in biotechnology with an average of 3-5 graduates per year.
