Originally aired on HBO at midnight, *Tales from the Crypt* (also known as *Stories from the Crypt*) left many children sleepless during its run. Each episode opens with a scene leading to the front door of the Crypt Keeper’s decaying mansion. The camera follows through the foyer, down the hallway and stairs, eventually descending into the basement. There, the Crypt Keeper emerges from his coffin, ranting wildly as green slime pours across the screen, introducing the main title. Unlike the original comic where the Crypt Keeper was human, in the series, he is portrayed as an animated zombie.
