4. KL118
Merdeka PNB 118, formerly known as KL118, is an ultra-tall 118-story skyscraper under construction in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The official name is Merdeka PNB 118, with 'Merdeka' meaning 'Independence' in Malay, commemorating Malaysia’s Independence Day. The tower will rise on the former site of Merdeka Park. PNB stands for Permodalan Nasional Berhad, Malaysia’s largest fund management company and the owner of the building. Initially referred to as KL118 because of its 118 floors and its location in Kuala Lumpur, other names such as Menara Warisan Merdeka (Independence Heritage Tower) and PNB Headquarters have also been used, as the tower will become the new headquarters for PNB Group.
Situated near Merdeka Stadium on Jalan Hang Jebat, approximately 100 meters to the north, the tower will surpass the Petronas Towers to become the tallest building in Kuala Lumpur. The construction of this megatall skyscraper is intended to mark a new milestone for the city, especially as the Petronas Towers have been surpassed in height by several new global skyscrapers.
Merdaeka Stadium is a historic landmark where Malaysia’s independence was declared and where many major events, including two Michael Jackson concerts in 1996, were held. Upon completion, Merdeka PNB 118, alongside KL Tower and the Petronas Towers, will align almost perfectly on the same line.

5. Tower M
Tower M is a 145-story megatall skyscraper being developed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The project is being led by KLCC Holdings, the same company behind the famous Petronas Towers, with Samsung C&T contracted for construction. The purpose of Tower M is to reclaim the title of the tallest building in Malaysia, as it will surpass both Exchange 106 and Merdeka 118. Construction began in September 2019.
Initially called KLCC East Tower, Tower M is part of a major redevelopment plan for the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) precinct, which includes the remaining undeveloped land. KLCC Property Holdings Berhad, also responsible for the Petronas Towers, is developing Tower M as part of the revised 1995 master plan to enhance the area’s development potential. The tower will include three office buildings on top of a retail podium and cover a 4-acre site near the upcoming Persiaran KLCC subway station. Tower M is expected to reach 700 meters (2,297 feet) and 145 floors. However, the development of office towers may not begin until 2035 due to uncertain demand.

6. Jeddah Tower
Kingdom Tower, also known as Jeddah Tower, is a supertall skyscraper under construction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Originally proposed as the Mile-High Tower in 2007, it was later renamed Kingdom Tower. In 2015, it was rebranded as Jeddah Tower to better reflect the identity of Jeddah city. The name change also aimed to avoid confusion with Kingdom Centre, another iconic skyscraper in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The tower is located about 20 km (12 miles) north of Jeddah’s city center, in an undeveloped area. This land is part of a larger project to create a new district called the Jeddah Economic City, with Jeddah Tower at its heart. While the exact height is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to surpass 1000 meters, making it one of the tallest buildings in the world upon completion. The tower was proposed by Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, with the vision of making it the next tallest skyscraper globally. The official height will be revealed upon its completion.
The owner and developer of Jeddah Tower is Jeddah Economic Company, a conglomerate founded by several parent companies, including Kingdom Holding, which proposed the project, and Saudi Bin Laden Group, the project’s primary contractor. The design of the tower comes from Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, with Adrian Smith leading the design, the same architect behind the Burj Khalifa during his time at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

7. Dubai Creek Tower
Dubai Creek Tower is one of the tallest skyscrapers ever proposed, with a staggering planned height of 1,345 meters. Construction began in 2016, and the foundation was completed by 2017. Technically, it isn't considered a conventional building as less than 50% of its total height is habitable space, supported by cables. However, it will house hotels, which is rare for observation towers, and it will be the only tower in the world with its top floor positioned over 1,000 meters high. Once completed in 2022, Dubai Creek Tower is set to become the tallest tower and the tallest man-made structure globally.
The tower will be located in the Dubai Creek area, a riverside district near the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, a culturally and historically significant part of the city. Dubai Creek Harbour, a major development project, is being built in the area and will feature many new buildings. This area, twice the size of Downtown Dubai, will span 6 square kilometers (2.3 square miles), with the Dubai Creek Tower as the centerpiece. Developer Emaar has yet to announce the exact height of the tower, choosing to keep it a secret until its official unveiling in 2022, so that potential competing projects do not surpass its height.

9. Zhongnan Center Suzhou
Suzhou, the second largest city in Jiangsu Province, serves as a major economic hub in eastern China. The Zhongnan Center Suzhou is being built in the Suzhou Industrial Park, Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. This 729-meter, 137-story mixed-use tower will include office spaces, residential units, and a hotel. The lower five floors will contain conference facilities and a ballroom. The top of the building will feature the world’s second-highest public observation deck. Initial plans called for a height of 729 meters, but these plans were revised in 2019 following China’s ban on buildings taller than 500 meters. A major design challenge arose from the significant gravitational and lateral loads, including wind and seismic forces, that are typical of super-tall buildings.
The foundation system of the Zhongnan Center Suzhou is robust, relying on bored concrete piles after grout injection, designed to bear substantial gravitational loads. The commercial office space features a ground-floor design inspired by Suzhou Gardens, with a series of inner courtyards and a green roofing system. The fully integrated tower will include retail spaces, commercial offices, residential units, a hotel, a two-tier observation deck overlooking Suzhou, and an elevator to a helicopter pad on the roof for aerial transport. In the residential and hotel areas, an innovative skylight system within the core will create vertically stacked, themed communities that welcome natural light provided by an intelligent optical fiber system. The proposed tower, introduced in 2019, began construction less than a year later, with a planned completion date in 2025.

10. Greenland Center Xi'an
The Greenland Center Xi'an, also known as the Silkroad International Center, is located in Xi'an, the ancient capital of China and the starting point of the northern route of the Silk Road. The developer, Greenland Group, is behind many iconic skyscrapers across China, and this building in Xi'an will become the tallest of all. The 101-story tower is set to feature the world's tallest windows, a rarity in modern super-tall skyscrapers. The first 74 floors will be dedicated to office spaces, while floors 77 to 101 will house a luxurious hotel. Construction began in early 2019.
The Greenland Center Xi'an project is situated in Xi'an's rapidly developing new district, close to the city's main axis and the central node of the Energy Park axis. The rectangular plot is near both a major traffic route and a green urban strip to the east. The building’s design integrates harmoniously with its surroundings, aligning with the central axis of Xi'an and reviving the energy of the historical space. The eastern entrance features a large terrace in the north wing, and the water feature beneath it creates a layered and orderly space. The red-brown zigzag roof structure leads to the second floor, adding an intriguing element to the design and enriching the building's facade.
