Tsu Deng is adapted from the fantasy novel *Ban Yao Tsu Deng* by Wei Yu. Set in 1946, the story begins with Taoist priest Kou Shan killing the female demon Tsu Deng. Fast forward to 2013, where Tan Feng, a young man, is traveling with his fiancée to visit a senior family member's benefactor.
