1. Lâm Quang Pagoda
Lâm Quang Pagoda is a humble temple located in a small alley at 301/117/70H Bến Bình Đông, District 14, Ho Chi Minh City. It has served as a charitable nursing home established by the temple nearly 20 years ago, providing care for elderly people with no one to support them. Currently, the home houses 137 elderly individuals over 70 years old.
The idea of creating this nursing home came from the compassionate heart of Venerable Thích Nữ Huệ Tuyến, the current abbot of the temple, who wished to provide a peaceful and caring place for the elderly in their final years. To support the costs of care, the temple’s nuns initially worked hard, selling sticky rice, vegetarian noodles, incense, and offering catering services for local Buddhist families. Every day, the nuns and volunteers care for the elderly, providing meals, medicine, bathing, and more. When an elder passes away, the temple ensures proper funeral arrangements are made.
Thanks to the noble mission of this humanitarian effort, many donors, organizations, and individuals have come forward to contribute money, food, and personal items to support the temple in providing better care for the elderly residents.

2. Vinh Sơn Charity Nursing Home
Vinh Sơn Charity Nursing Home is located at the Vinh Sơn Sisters’ Convent at 469 Nơ Trang Long (Extended), District 13, Bình Thạnh, Ho Chi Minh City. Established in 1997, the home is currently managed by Sister Lương Thị Ngọc Anh. It now cares for over 60 elderly women, all over 70 years old, with no relatives or support. Among them, 27 women are in such poor health that they are unable to move and require constant assistance. The Sisters and local volunteers manage the home, though due to the high workload, additional staff has been hired to help with the daily operations.
Over the years, the center has gained support from numerous benefactors, whose charitable contributions have alleviated some of the financial burdens on the convent.

3. Nhân Ái Nursing Home
In Eastern society, the elderly are highly respected, and their life experiences are regarded as cultural treasures to guide future generations. The number of elderly people is steadily increasing, but the system to meet the needs of the elderly and sick remains inadequate. Responding to the compassion of Christ and the church's concern for the suffering, lonely, and sick elderly, the Sisters of the Mother of Mercy Convent have dedicated their lives to caring for abandoned and impoverished elders.
As a result, the convent has welcomed elderly individuals without families, providing them with food, medicine, clothing, and ensuring they live their final years in peace and happiness. However, the nursing home still faces many challenges in terms of facilities, equipment, and basic necessities, and therefore requires the support and generosity of donors from both near and far.

All the residents are over 60 years old, with 30 of them suffering from severe illness and unable to move. The center is managed by six nuns who take turns caring for the elderly. The center’s operational costs are partly supported by the local government, partly funded by charitable donors, and the remaining income comes from the elderly residents’ small contributions.

Di Lạc Pagoda, which shelters elderly women without family, is located on Bình Long Street in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City. The road to the pagoda is quite difficult, with detours and no direct bus route (Bus No. 69 stops about 200 meters away). The pagoda is fairly spacious, surrounded by a cemetery, making the area peaceful and tranquil.
Next to the pagoda is a small building that serves as the Minh Trần Elderly Care Center, consisting of two rooms: a large dormitory for the residents (each person has a bed and a small locker for their belongings), a restroom, and a kitchen nearby.
The center regularly receives volunteer groups who come to visit, bring gifts, or cook meals for the elderly residents (usually with 5 to 10 people). Occasionally, some of the elderly’s relatives come to visit and bring presents.
Living Conditions:
- The elderly women here are relatively frail and have no family or rarely see their relatives.
- Most of the residents care for each other, with two volunteer caretakers assisting with meals and daily needs.
- The oldest resident is 102 years old (still in good health), and the youngest is 63.
- Some of the residents are of Chinese descent and do not understand Vietnamese, making communication difficult. Many suffer from hearing loss and are hard to understand.
- Most of the elderly have serious health issues, such as chronic pain, insomnia, and mental instability. One resident has broken bones and cannot walk.
- The elderly enjoy visits, especially from students, and they love telling stories and sharing experiences.
- The center provides meals, usually consisting of porridge, stir-fried noodles, and vegetarian dishes. Due to their health, the pagoda usually prepares extra food four days a month for the elderly.
- The elderly eat their main meal around 10:30 AM and rest until 2 or 3 PM.

9. Artist Retirement Home, District 8
The Artist Charity Association of Ho Chi Minh City, established in 1946 in Saigon, is a social welfare organization that brings together theater professionals, journalists, and critics. The association was founded by prominent artists such as Trần Hữu Trang, Phùng Há, and Năm Châu. In 1981, it became part of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association. The group serves as a gathering place for all theater practitioners, regardless of age or membership status, though membership is currently limited to those in Ho Chi Minh City due to operational constraints. The Artist Charity Association is now managed by stage director Nguyễn Hồng Dung, who also oversees the Artist Retirement Home, along with the artists' cemetery and temple.
The Artist Retirement Home currently houses nearly 30 former cải lương artists who, once famous, now live in financial and emotional hardship. The artists' cemetery and temple have been cleared, with the graves of the revered artists exhumed and cremated, ending a 60-year legacy.
The Artist Council now cares for over 100 individuals, including those who once dedicated their lives to Vietnamese cải lương, but now live in poverty, on the streets, or in slums. Many carry heavy family burdens but are not eligible to be admitted into the Artist Retirement Home.
