1. The Most Beautiful Day
The Most Beautiful Day (On Your Wedding Day) is a coming-of-age romance with a classic storyline, but unlike many, it doesn’t offer the “happy ending” viewers expect. The story begins when Woo Yeon (Kim Young Kwang) holds Seung Hee’s (Park Bo Young) wedding invitation, the girl he once loved with all his heart. Through a series of flashbacks, the film unfolds their 10-year love story, spanning high school, university, and adulthood. Despite being together for so long, Woo Yeon and Seung Hee ultimately couldn’t be together. The plot is somewhat similar to 'Our Times,' but this one tells the story from the perspective of a man with unrequited love and no perfect conclusion.
The film doesn’t leave a lasting impression through its storyline, but rather through its nostalgic and emotional experiences, which easily resonate with the audience. It beautifully captures the bittersweet emotions of young love and experiences that can only be felt in adolescence—like the determination to attend the same university as the one you love, or those sudden summer showers that stir your heart...

2. The Preparation (When Mother is Gone)
When Mother is Gone begins with simple, everyday scenes depicting the life of a mother, Ae Soon (Ko Du Shim), and her 30-year-old son, In Gyu (Kim Sung Kyun), who has a developmental disability. Each day, Ae Soon wakes up early to prepare meals for her son and even helps him with basic tasks like brushing his teeth, shaving, and changing clothes. Together, they work at a small roadside shop to make ends meet. For 30 years, Ae Soon has dedicated her life to caring for In Gyu, repeating these daily routines. She is diagnosed with a brain tumor and only has a few months left to live.
Ae Soon has spent her life living for her son, and as she nears death, all she wants is to pass away at the same time as him, fearing that he will be left alone, without anyone to care for him. Her desperate plea at the church deeply moves the audience, as her words are not those of a person clinging to life for selfish reasons, but of a mother who simply wants more time to care for her son. The sacred love of Ae Soon is beautifully captured in a scene where mother and son sit together on the beach.

3. Pure Love (Innocent Love)
The film captures the pure moments of first love between a group of friends in 1991, bringing back cherished memories when a radio host receives a letter recounting childhood recollections. Unforgettable (Pure Love) recreates the innocent first love and pure friendships of five friends from 1991. One of them, now a radio host, receives a letter from another old friend, and all the unforgettable memories come flooding back. For me, the movie is more touching because of the friendship among the five friends. The romance between the two main characters takes a backseat, yet the story becomes more beautiful through their friendship.
The radio station serves as a bridge between the past and the present, allowing them to revisit beautiful, unforgettable memories while also reflecting on the many events from 23 years ago. The film has received positive feedback from young audiences, especially with the involvement of Kim So Hyun and D.O. from EXO.

5. Tough as Iron
The story follows Gang Chul (played by Yoo Ah In), a man from Busan who works tirelessly in tough jobs to pay for his mother’s Alzheimer’s treatment. Once a legendary street gangster in Busan, Gang Chul gave up his violent ways for the sake of his mother, Soon-i, who is suffering from dementia. Things were going well for him; he worked at a dock and was even pursuing a relationship with Soo-ji, a girl from Seoul visiting the port city. But then, Soon-i is diagnosed with kidney failure and requires an expensive transplant.
Desperate for money, Gang Chul is approached by the local gang leader, Sang-gon, who offers him a deal. Initially, Gang Chul refuses, but when his best friend Jong-soo mortgages his house to Sang-gon for a loan, Gang Chul has no choice but to return to the criminal underworld of Busan. He is tasked with killing a Japanese Yakuza boss visiting Korea, an assassination that would help Sang-gon advance in the organization. However, everything changes when Gang Chul realizes what is truly important, thanks to Soo-ji, and begins to find his own path.

6. Late Autumn

The film tells the story of an unexpected meeting between a South Korean gigolo and a Chinese-American ex-convict, and the 72 hours they spend falling in love. After serving seven years in prison for accidentally killing her abusive husband, Anna (played by Chinese actress Tang Wei) is granted a three-day parole to attend her mother's funeral.
Meanwhile, Hoon (played by Hyun Bin) is on the run, escaping from the husband of the woman with whom he once had an affair. Both of them have no family to return to, no one to lean on. This shared sense of isolation leads to the blossoming of their brief, yet deeply emotional, romance during those three days. The film is a poignant exploration of love and loss.

The film tells the story of the love between a former boxer, Cheol Min (played by So Ji Sub), and a woman, Jung Hwa (played by Han Hyo Joo), who temporarily loses her sight. Cheol Min has lost his faith in love and has closed his heart, while Jung Hwa, despite her challenges, remains hopeful about life.
Life is full of unexpected twists, and this is exactly what happens to them. Their love story begins when Cheol Min has already shut himself off from the world, while Jung Hwa, despite her misfortune, continues to believe in the beauty of life. But fate has other plans: an accident causes Jung Hwa to regain her sight, while Cheol Min loses his face forever. From that moment on, everything changes. “Always” stars the charismatic So Ji Sub and the beautiful Han Hyo Joo, and with a compelling script and skillful direction by Song Il-gon, the film delivers a touching message about the power of love.

8. Romang (The Secrets Parents Never Told)
Romang (The Secrets Parents Never Told) is the debut film by director Lee Chang Geun, starring the beloved national grandfather, Lee Soon Jae (as Cho Nam Bong). Playing his wife is the 72-year-old actress, Jung Young Sook (as Mae Ja). In this first film, director Lee Chang Geun manages to move the audience to tears with the heartfelt performances and carefully crafted storytelling.
The film explores the lives of a three-generation family living under one roof. Nam Bong works tirelessly as a taxi driver to support his family, despite his old age. When both he and his wife realize they are becoming a burden, Mae Ja contemplates suicide so that her husband can live with their children, who would care for him. However, she does not know that her death will also take away her husband's will to live. The couple debates whether it would be better for one to be ill or both to suffer. Mae Ja believes that only one person should bear the illness, but Nam Bong's heartbreaking response is that it might be less lonely if they both shared the burden. In the midst of tears, Nam Bong suggests they both end their lives together in a car accident, leaving the audience both saddened and moved by this poignant proposal.

9. Miracle in Cell No. 7
Miracle in Cell No. 7 Lee Yong Goo (Ryu Seung Ryong) has an intellectual disability, which makes life difficult for him. He has a young daughter named Ye Seung, who is the opposite of him: intelligent, bright, loving, and respectful. Despite facing numerous hardships, especially financially, the bond between father and daughter is filled with love and closeness. One day, Yong Goo, in an attempt to buy a Sailor Moon backpack that his daughter desires, finds himself wrongfully accused of murder and child abuse, with the victim being the daughter of the city’s police chief.
Yong Goo is immediately imprisoned and sentenced to death without a trial. In cell number 7, what seemed like a period of misery and darkness actually becomes the happiest, most magical, and fortunate time for the father and daughter. The greatest lesson the film imparts is the importance of love, trust in others, and living a life full of happiness while spreading that joy to everyone. This is one of the best, most profound films I’ve ever watched, with emotions and layers of meaning that can only be fully appreciated after years of repeated viewings.

10. Hope - A Story of Hope
Inspired by the real-life case of Na Young from 2008, Hope depicts the journey of So Won (Lee Re), a young girl who, like the real-life Na Young, was a victim of horrific abuse. At just 8 years old, Na Young was violently attacked by a drunken man while walking alone to school on a rainy day. The film portrays her struggle to recover emotionally and physically after the trauma. One of the most enraging moments in the film is when the criminal mocks the situation, saying, "How long do you think I'll stay here? I’ll be out soon." Later, when the judge delivers his verdict, the perpetrator is sentenced to only 12 years in prison because he claimed to have no memory of the event. In real life, Na Young not only suffered irreparable physical harm but also lost the ability to become a mother. Despite the defendant's claim of mental incapacity due to intoxication, evidence from the victim's injuries contradicts his defense. Additionally, flaws in the prosecution's evidence-gathering process compounded the emotional distress experienced by Na Young.

11. A Werewolf Boy (The Werewolf Boy)
Released in 2012, the film stars the talented Park Bo Young as Sumi and Song Joong Ki as Cheolsu, the werewolf boy. Sumi suffers from a respiratory illness, prompting her family to move from the city to a quiet countryside home.
It is here that she encounters Cheolsu, a boy with the instincts of a wolf. Initially, Sumi resents her mother's decision to adopt him, but over time, they develop a deep bond, experiencing their first love and the blossoming of their emotions. Will their love, despite the immense differences between them, survive? Forty-seven years later, the once-beautiful Su Ni, who had once captured the heart of the werewolf boy, has aged and built her own family. The most poignant and tear-jerking moment comes when they are reunited. Their brief and painful reunion stirs the hearts of millions of viewers. After all these years, Cheolsu remains in the old house, still waiting for a promise made long ago, holding on to their shared memories, and staying true to his love.
