Nguyen Du High School was established on October 11, 1971, formerly known as Tran Luc School.

The school opened its first academic year in 1972 – 1973 and was the first public secondary school in Saigon to have both male and female students studying together. From the early years, the school made significant contributions to the Cultural – Sports – Arts activities of the Education sector by participating in cultural exhibitions at Hoa Lu Stadium with exquisite handicraft products.
