Salted lemon has been a familiar ingredient in Vietnamese culture and traditional remedies. Using salted lemon water is a simple and effective way to treat cough and phlegm.
- How to make: Start by cleaning the lemon. Boil the lemon briefly, then soak it in cold water with vinegar for about 2 hours. Finally, place the lemon in a jar and fill it with salted water.
- How to use: For cough relief, suck on 1/8 of a salted lemon before bedtime, swallowing it slowly until finished, then sleep.
- Note: Do not drink water afterward to avoid washing away the lemon.


2. Blend of Ginger, Cinnamon, Osmanthus, and Honey
- How to make: Mix finely grated ginger, cinnamon, osmanthus, and honey into a blended solution, adding a bit of water.
- How to use: Consume the mixture twice daily.




4. Honey and White Pepper Seeds
- How to make: Add a pinch of white pepper seeds to 1 teaspoon of pure honey.

- Usage: If you wake up with a blocked throat and a hoarse voice, drinking warm water will naturally restore your voice.


8. White Rose Flowers
- How to make: Take clean white rose petals, mix with a bit of rock sugar, add some distilled water, and steam until thoroughly heated.
- Usage: Consume 2 - 3 spoonfuls each time, 3 - 4 times a day.


9. Orange and Wine
- How to make: Cut oranges into thin slices and soak them in red wine overnight. Once the oranges are adequately soaked, take out the slices and cook until softened.
- Usage: Consume the cooked orange slices continuously for 1-2 days.


10. Fish Mint Leaves
Fish mint leaves possess natural antibiotic properties due to the presence of decanoyl – acetaldehyde. This compound inhibits the activity of bronchial and pulmonary bacteria. Besides, fish mint leaves are rich in vitamins, proteins, iron, calcium, and fiber, promoting overall immunity.
- How to make: Grind a handful of fish mint leaves and mix with rice water. Boil this mixture for approximately 15 minutes, then strain the essence to drink for effective cough relief.
- Usage: Consistently follow for 3 days, drinking twice a day, for efficient phlegm reduction.


11. Honey and Grape Juice
- How to make: Mix 2 tablespoons of honey with an equivalent amount of grape juice. Grapes are excellent for treating cough.
- Usage: Consume this mixture three times a day for approximately 5 days.


12. Chives
Chives contain various antibacterial compounds such as allicin, odorin, and sunfit. These compounds help eliminate respiratory bacteria. Additionally, saponin in chives acts as an effective cough suppressant.
- Method 1: Finely chop chives and mix with rock sugar, then steam in a double boiler for 20 minutes. Use the extracted liquid to drink twice a day, 2 tablespoons each time. Chewing the chives is also beneficial.
- Method 2: Combine chives with honey to create a folk remedy for cough with phlegm. Mix chives with honey and steam in a double boiler for 30 minutes, then drink three times a day.


13. Turmeric
Turmeric possesses excellent antiseptic properties, helping eliminate bacteria and viruses that cause cough, thereby cleansing the respiratory system and improving lung function. You can use turmeric mixed with warm milk to drink every morning and evening before bedtime.


14. White Radish
White radish, according to traditional Chinese medicine, has a cooling nature with a sweet and mild taste. It can be used for digestive and respiratory issues. Additionally, white radish is beneficial for individuals with diabetes, hoarseness, and nosebleeds. Many people use white radish as a folk remedy for cough with phlegm.
How to make:
Clean the radish, peel it, then finely slice and squeeze for juice. Cut ginger into thin slices. Mix ginger with radish juice and simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes.Usage:
Add honey and drink twice a day, approximately 5ml each time. If the mixture is too concentrated, you can dilute it in warm water for easier consumption.
