1. Munchkin
Munchkin is a quirky and tiny breed of cat originating from the United States. Known for its short legs caused by a genetic mutation, the first short-legged Munchkin was introduced in 1991, sparking considerable debate among cat enthusiasts. Critics argue that breeding Munchkins increases the risk of harmful genetic mutations and is ethically questionable. Many cat associations worldwide have yet to recognize Munchkin as a distinct breed.
At first glance, Munchkin might appear to be lying down due to its extremely short legs. However, the rest of its body is quite typical, nearly identical to other cat breeds. These tiny-legged felines are often affectionately referred to as “Dwarf Cats.” Their body length is 2.5 times their height, which gives them a charming, waddling walk, making them highly desirable as pets.
Despite their short legs, Munchkins are active and love to run and play like other cats. They are intelligent, lively, friendly, and enjoy being close to their owners. Munchkin owners typically groom their cats regularly and bathe them every two weeks. Although generally healthy, Munchkins may experience spinal issues due to their genetic mutation.
DETAILS:
Weight: 2 - 5kg
Height: 18 - 20cm
Coat: Short, thick, with tails longer than the body, available in various colors and patterns
Life Expectancy: 10 - 15 years
Price: $300 - $500 (approx. 6.3 - 10.5 million VND)

2. Minskin
Minskin is a relatively new cat breed that emerged recently. In 1998, an American breeder named Paul McSorley began experimenting with crossbreeding Sphynx, Munchkin, Devon Rex, and Burmese cats, aiming to create a breed with fur patterns resembling the color points of a Siamese cat. By 2000, McSorley successfully developed this new breed, naming it Minskin. As of 2005, only 50 Minskin cats had been recognized worldwide, and the breed continues to grow in numbers, with hopes for recognition by the International Cat Association (TICA).
The Minskin cat is often hairless or has very little, extremely short fur. It features large eyes, a pointed face, long muzzle and ears, and very short legs. The breed's appearance perfectly reflects the traits McSorley intended to incorporate from its parent breeds. Minskins are intelligent, affectionate, enjoy being petted, and are friendly in nature. One fascinating trait of the Minskin is its love for dogs, making it an ideal pet for families with other pets. Due to its lack of fur, Minskin cats are highly sensitive to temperature extremes, so they should not be exposed to excessive cold or heat. It is also recommended that Minskin owners bathe their cats weekly to avoid skin conditions.
DETAILS:
Weight: 2 - 3kg
Height: 17 - 20cm
Coat: Hairless or with very little fur
Life Expectancy: 12 - 15 years
Price: $300 - $1,000 (approx. 3.6 - 21 million VND)

3. Balinese
The Balinese, often referred to as the Bali cat, is a domestic breed that closely resembles the Siamese cat, particularly in appearance, but with long, flowing fur and captivating sapphire-blue eyes. Despite the name, there is no connection between this breed and Indonesia (its Siamese relatives actually hail from Thailand). The name was chosen by breeders who felt the cat's elegance mirrored the beauty of Bali's traditional dancers. The breed doesn't have a long history but was first introduced in the U.S. in the 1940s, following the appearance of long-haired Siamese cats.
This spontaneous mutation led breeders to focus on cultivating more of these cats, with the first official breeding program for the Balinese launching in the 1950s. The Balinese is known for its intelligence, friendly nature, curious temperament, and playful energy, in addition to its striking beauty. The breed is a result of a genetic mutation in purebred Siamese cats, resulting in a longer coat.
Balinese cats are medium-sized, active, affectionate, and highly social. They love to play and are naturally curious, so it's important to provide plenty of toys, scratching posts, and activities to keep them entertained and mentally stimulated. Their intelligence also makes them easier to train than many other breeds. While Balinese cats are graceful and charming, they are sometimes humorously referred to as little clowns because of their silly antics. This breed is not suited to being left alone for long periods and can become upset, leading to destructive behavior.
DETAILS:
Weight: 2-5 kg
Height: 28-32 cm
Coat: Long, cream-colored with darker points on the head, ears, tail, and legs
Life Expectancy: 12-20 years
Price: $1000-$1500 (approximately 23.3-35.6 million VND)

4. Javanese
The Javanese is a medium-sized cat with a sleek, elongated body. They are larger than both the Balinese and Siamese breeds but maintain a slender frame with strong bones. Originating in the United States, the Javanese is a man-made breed created by crossing the Balinese with the Colorpoint Shorthair. The Colorpoint Shorthair itself is a mix of the Siamese and the American Shorthair, resulting in the Javanese, which resembles the Siamese but with a longer coat and different color patterns.
Despite their slender appearance, Javanese cats weigh between 2.3 and 9 kg. They have long bodies, tails, and legs, with a wedge-shaped head. Their most captivating feature is their almond-shaped, deep blue eyes. While their coat is not as long as some other long-haired breeds, it is still of medium length and quite adored by many.
Known for being energetic and vocal, the Javanese exhibits many of the traits common to Oriental breeds. They are never quiet when indoors, constantly seeking attention and interaction with their owners. These cats are loyal but sometimes overly clingy, which can become frustrating for some people. Their intelligence is remarkable, and they will often respond to human speech with their own meows.
DETAILS:
Weight: 2.3-9 kg
Height: 30 cm
Coat: Long fur in colors such as red, cream, chocolate, and blue
Life Expectancy: 10-15 years
Price: $75-$150 (approximately 1.7- million VND)

5. Napoleon
Napoleon is another American breed, created by Joe Smith in 1996 through the crossbreeding of Munchkin and Persian cats. Napoleon has an incredibly cute appearance, thanks to the short legs inherited from the Munchkin and the large eyes, round face, and fluffy coat from the Persian. Although beloved by many, Napoleon has yet to be officially recognized by major cat associations as an independent breed. It is often compared to the body shape of a Dachshund dog.
Napoleon cats are known for their flexible, sweet-natured personality. They are affectionate, sociable, and gentle, but also curious and full of energy. They enjoy running, playing, and showing love to their owners and children. They dislike being left alone and prefer the company of people, other pets, and even kittens. Napoleon cats adapt to new living conditions quickly and get along well with other pets, especially dogs, making them a great choice for families with multiple animals.
With a long coat that sheds minimally and resists tangling, Napoleon cats don't require frequent grooming. However, they may cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Like many breeds, they can suffer from eye, digestive, and urinary issues. Despite their small size, Napoleon cats are an excellent choice for anyone looking for a cute, sweet-tempered, and easygoing companion, especially for families with children.
DETAILS:
Weight: 2.5 - 4.5 kg
Height: 15 - 20 cm
Coat: Fluffy, with a longer tail that is more voluminous than the rest of the body; available in various colors
Life Expectancy: 12 - 14 years
Price: $500 - $900 (approximately 10.5 - 19 million VND)

6. German Rex
The first Cornish Rex kitten was born in Cornwall, England, in 1950 from a barn cat and an unknown male. The German Rex breed was recognized in 1960 and quickly spread from Germany to France, England, and the United States. For a period, there was confusion surrounding the distinct nature of the Devon Rex, Cornish Rex, and German Rex breeds. Due to genetic similarities between Cornish Rex and German Rex, the German Rex is no longer bred as a separate breed in many countries.
German Rex cats are medium to small-sized with a distinctive appearance. Fully grown, they weigh between 2.7 and 3.6 kg. Their look resembles the British Shorthair, but the German Rex is less common. With rounded cheeks, large ears, and wide, affectionate eyes, they have slightly curly whiskers and a nose with a small break. The German Rex's curly coat is incredibly soft and velvety, much like a plush toy. Their fur is exceptionally smooth because they lack an undercoat. The fur feels thicker near the tail, creating a coarser texture at the tip.
The standout feature of the German Rex is its short, silky curly coat with very tightly curled hairs. These cats are friendly, lively, and full of energy, brightening up even the most tiring day. They are social and get along well with everyone, including children. German Rex cats are active, affectionate, and sometimes a bit temperamental. They love to be held and cuddled and enjoy being part of the family activities.
DETAILS:
Weight: 2.7 - 3.6 kg
Height: 30.48 - 35.56 cm
Coat: White, blue, black, cream, red, brown, platinum, golden, chestnut, etc.
Life Expectancy: 9 - 14 years
Price: $600 - $1000 (approximately 14.1 - 23.6 million VND)

7. Devon Rex
Devon Rex is a breed originating from England, often referred to as the "alien cat" due to its unique and striking appearance. Known for its large ears, big eyes, short muzzle, and high cheekbones, the Devon Rex has a face that looks slightly gaunt, resembling the aliens depicted in popular Hollywood films. One of its most distinctive features is its curly coat and mustache, which, although appearing messy, feel incredibly soft and smooth when touched.
The Devon Rex is often compared to the Cornish Rex due to their similar appearances, but the curly coat in both breeds is caused by different genetic mutations. Their fur comes in nearly every color, including black, blue, chocolate, cinnamon, lavender, and white. They may also have various patterns such as tabby, brindle, or solid. Devon Rex cats do not shed much fur, and their wavy coat helps reduce the amount of hair left on furniture and fabrics.
The Devon Rex is highly playful and curious, always getting into things around the house and especially enjoying snuggling up in bed with their owners. Like dogs, Devon Rex cats can perform tricks such as rolling over, bowing, or spinning when trained consistently. They also love to learn new tricks and can become bored if not engaged, leading to potential mischief around the home. The Devon Rex is friendly with children and other pets alike.
The Devon Rex has a curly coat that dries quickly and is easy to maintain. Regular ear cleaning is important to prevent infections. This breed is known to cause fewer allergic reactions, making it a great choice for those sensitive to cat hair. However, Devon Rex cats can be prone to some health issues, such as heart disease, skin conditions, and ear infections.
DETAILS:
Weight: 2.7 - 4.1 kg
Height: 20 - 25 cm
Coat: Short, thick, curly, with a wide range of colors and patterns
Life Expectancy: 9 - 15 years
Price: $500 - $600 (approximately 10.5 - 12.6 million VND)

8. Japanese Bobtail
Japanese Bobtail is a unique breed of cat that originates from Japan. The most notable feature of this breed is its short, bobbed tail, which resembles that of a rabbit. This trait is the result of a natural genetic mutation. Also known as the "bobtail cat" in Japan, this breed has been an integral part of Japanese folklore, appearing in many traditional stories, paintings, and poems. They are known for their vocalizations, which are varied and melodic, earning them the nickname "singing cats" in Japan. Additionally, the Japanese Bobtail is the inspiration for the famous Hello Kitty character. Today, it ranks 24th among the 43 most popular cat breeds worldwide.
Japanese Bobtails are highly admired for their short, kinked tails, outgoing personalities, and athletic abilities. Originating in Japan, this breed has gained international recognition. They are playful, energetic, and intelligent, and can be trained to perform simple tricks like flipping, walking on a tightrope, and balancing. Unlike many other cats, the Japanese Bobtail enjoys water and is known for playing in it. They love participating in family activities, making them excellent companions for both children and adults.
With their boundless energy, Japanese Bobtails make wonderful pets, particularly for families with young children. They shed little, are easy to groom, and are highly intelligent. Their cute, fluffy tails are typically no longer than 3 inches, covered in fur, and may curl or bend to one side. Like many natural breeds, Japanese Bobtails are generally healthy, require minimal grooming, and do not need frequent baths. Regular weekly brushing and maintaining good oral hygiene will help keep them in top shape.
DETAILS:
Weight: 3 - 5 kg
Height: 20 - 25 cm
Coat: Short, multi-colored, with tricolor being the most common
Life Expectancy: 9 - 15 years
Price: $400 - $600 (approximately 8.4 - 12.6 million VND)

9. Cornish Rex
Cornish Rex originates from England. This breed has a striking appearance with a slender body, a small head, large round eyes, and oversized ears that stand upright. Despite its tall stature, its delicate build places it in the small cat category. While the Cornish Rex looks slender, it is surprisingly strong and agile. They are great jumpers and enjoy playful activities like pouncing and catching objects thrown by their owners.
The Cornish Rex is the result of a spontaneous genetic mutation, born from a female cat and an unknown male. It features a small, narrow head, large ears, and eyes that seem oversized for the face. Its nose is Roman-shaped, and it has a sharp chin and long, slender legs. The tail is long and flexible. The coat of the Cornish Rex is unique, soft and silky, and forms waves that give it a distinctive texture. Due to the close-fitting fur, it’s easy to notice if the Cornish Rex is gaining weight.
Cornish Rex cats are quiet and intelligent, often engaging in playful antics. They love to sit on their owner's lap and enjoy being petted. Like other hairless breeds, Cornish Rex cats are sensitive to temperature. They prefer warm, dry environments and often seek warmth near heaters or other heat sources. They dislike the cold and can be seen curling up by fireplaces or lying near computers and air conditioning units. Due to their delicate coat, they shed easily and require gentle handling during bathing, as well as regular eye and ear cleaning. This breed may experience some health issues, including heart and digestive problems.
DETAILS:
Weight: 3 - 5 kg
Height: 30 - 36 cm
Coat: Very short, close-fitting, some cats may have curly fur, with a wide range of color options
Life Expectancy: 11 - 15 years
Price: $700 - $800 (approximately 14.7 - 16.9 million VND)

10. Oriental
Oriental cats are a breed developed from the Siamese cat. In the past century, Siamese cats were introduced to Europe and became very popular. However, since the Siamese only came in two coat colors, black and white, there was a desire to create more variety in their coat colors. By crossbreeding Siamese with other cat breeds, a new breed with distinctive features emerged, and it was named the Oriental. However, many cat associations do not recognize the Oriental as a separate breed but instead classify it as a branch of the Siamese. Today, the Oriental ranks 13th among the most popular 43 cat breeds worldwide.
Oriental cats are small to medium-sized with long, slender bodies. Like their Siamese ancestors, they have wedge-shaped heads, almond-shaped eyes, and tall ears. Unlike the Siamese, Oriental cats do not have distinct black patches but rather a solid coat color that can sometimes include spots or stripes. Their large ears tend to flare outward, and their face has an angular shape, similar to that of a wild cat. They also have narrow, slanted eyes and a long nose. The temperament of the Oriental differs from that of the Siamese—they are affectionate and love following their owners everywhere, preferring to snuggle, be petted, and curl up in their owner’s lap.
Due to their short coats and minimal shedding, grooming an Oriental cat is easy. However, regular dental hygiene is important. These cats are not suitable for busy people because they easily get bored and may act destructively if left alone without interaction. Oriental cats can also be prone to gastrointestinal issues or congenital heart defects.
DETAILS:
Weight: 3 - 5 kg
Height: 20 - 25 cm
Coat: Short, tight-fitting, with a wide range of colors
Life Expectancy: 10 - 15 years
Price: $400 - $500 (approximately 8.4 - 10.5 million VND)

11. American Curl
With their distinctive curled ears, American Curls are one of the easiest cat breeds to identify today. The American Curl originates from the United States and is known for its backward-twisting ears, a result of a natural genetic mutation rather than human breeding. The first curly-eared cat was discovered in 1983, and since then, breeders have been working to establish a new breed. Currently, American Curls rank 27th among the 43 most popular cat breeds worldwide.
American Curl cats are friendly, gentle, and highly active. They are not overly mischievous and rarely meow. This breed is particularly fond of children, making them an ideal pet for families with young kids. Known as the 'Flying Squirrel' for their love of jumping from place to place, they need plenty of high platforms in the home to play safely and avoid knocking things over. While not typically a lap cat, Curls enjoy being close to their human companions.
American Curls have a wide range of coat colors and patterns, and their coat can be either short or long. What makes them stand out most, however, are their unique curled ears. Their soft and silky fur is easy to maintain, even when it is long. Though they shed quite a bit, regular grooming helps keep their coat in good condition. Keep in mind, American Curls may have ear-related health issues, such as ear infections or narrow ear canals.
DETAILS:
Weight: 3 - 5kg
Height: 20 - 25cm
Coat: Striped, long, fluffy; common colors include orange, light yellow, black, brown, and gray
Life Expectancy: 12 - 16 years
Price: 800 - 1200 USD (16.9 - 25.3 million VND)

12. Siamese
The Siamese cat, also known as the 'Siamese' or 'Siam', originated in Thailand. Initially, the breed had a short, stocky body with a round, large head, but over time, it became popular in Europe and America. Breeders selectively modified its features for show purposes. As a result, the modern Siamese cat is smaller, with a compact frame and a narrower head. It is currently ranked 9th among the top 43 most popular cat breeds worldwide.
The Siamese cat has a distinctive appearance with a long, triangular head and tall, pointed ears. Its straight nose, slender legs, and long, tapered tail give it an elegant, graceful look. The almond-shaped eyes are bright blue. The short, sleek coat fits tightly to its body, and its beauty lies in the contrast between the lighter body and the darker points on its ears, face, paws, and tail. These darker hues gradually blend into the lighter color of the body.
Siamese cats are active, agile, and great at hunting. They love interacting with children and enjoy being playful with their owners. Even when left alone, they can entertain themselves and are unlikely to destroy furniture. Unlike other pedigree breeds, Siamese cats are not particularly fussy eaters and are relatively easy to care for. However, they shed quite a bit and require regular grooming. Their ears and nose should also be cleaned to prevent infections. Siamese cats may be prone to certain health issues like heart disease, liver problems, or asthma.
DETAILS:
Weight: 3 - 5kg
Height: 29 - 31cm
Coat: Short; colors include gray, white, and cream; darker shades on ears, face, paws, and tail (black or dark brown)
Life Expectancy: 10 - 12 years
Price: 1.5 - 2 million VND

13. Rusty-Spotted Cat
The Rusty-Spotted Cat is a small, lesser-known wild cat species. It is even smaller than a domestic cat, with a slender build. Known as the smallest wildcat in Asia, the Rusty-Spotted Cat rivals the Black-Footed Cat as the smallest wild cat in the world. These cats range in size from 35-48 cm in length, with tails measuring 15-30 cm, and weigh between 0.9-1.6 kg. Their coat is gray with rusty spots on their back and sides, while the underside is white with larger black spots.
Often described as a miniature version of the leopard, the Rusty-Spotted Cat has a tail that is half the length of its body, with a rusty hue and faint spots. The face has two dark streaks, and there are four dark streaks running from the neck to the top of the head. Their eyes are large, with amber to gray-brown irises. The ears are round and short, with a rough grayish texture on the back and lighter spots at the base. This species is found only in India and Sri Lanka. Previously thought to live solely in wet forests, recent studies have shown that it also inhabits dry scrublands, bamboo forests, dense grasslands, rocky slopes, and scrubby hillsides.
The Rusty-Spotted Cat is about 1/200th the size of a lion but is no less capable when it comes to hunting and observing its surroundings. Preferring rocky areas with dense vegetation, it is unlikely to be found in evergreen forests. Their graceful movements and ability to blend into their environment make them skilled hunters. Unfortunately, the Rusty-Spotted Cat is classified as 'vulnerable' by the IUCN as of 2002, due to threats to its natural habitat.
DETAILS:
Weight: 0.9 - 1.6 kg
Height: 20 cm
Coat: Short, gray with rusty spots on the back and sides, white belly with large black spots
Life Expectancy: 12 years
Price: 7-10 million VND

14. Dwelf
Although a relatively new breed, the Dwelf Cat is rapidly gaining popularity. These cats have an intriguing appearance and are often mistaken for hairless, but in reality, they have a soft peach-colored fuzz. The Dwelf is a unique mix of the short legs of the Munchkin, the hairless trait of the Sphynx, and the curled ears of the American Curl. The hairlessness trait, however, presents a disadvantage as their lack of fur leaves them vulnerable to extreme temperatures, especially to direct sunlight, which can cause health issues for them.
Despite this, the Dwelf is an incredibly lively, energetic, and friendly breed that loves to interact with its environment. They are often compared to dogs due to their playful, affectionate nature. These cats enjoy participating in family activities and are highly intelligent, knowing how to engage their owners mentally. Once they are familiar with their surroundings, they become extremely affectionate towards their family.
In most cases, the characteristics of the Sphynx are most noticeable in the Dwelf. These kittens are considered to be more cheerful and energetic than other breeds. They are very affectionate towards those they love and are sociable, though like any cat, they can be stubborn and independent. This means they may need some training to avoid jumping on counters and scratching furniture. As hairless cats, the Dwelf should be kept indoors, as they need protection from the elements.
DETAILS:
Weight: 1.8 - 4 kg
Height: 15 - 17.78 cm
Coat: Peach-colored fuzz
Life Expectancy: 12 - 15 years
Price: $2000 - $3000 (equivalent to 47.5 - 71.2 million VND)

15. Singapura
One of the smallest cat breeds in the world is the Singapura, which originates from Singapore and is considered the national symbol of this island nation. Unlike many other small breeds that are the result of selective breeding by humans, the Singapura is a naturally occurring small cat. According to the Cat Fanciers' Association, Singapura ranks 22nd among the top 43 most popular cat breeds worldwide as of 2014.
Singapura has round eyes that can be light green, green, or yellow, large ears, and a small, compact frame with the energy of a much larger cat. These small, robust cats are cheerful family members and affectionate companions. Known for their petite size, Singapura is much smaller than your average house cat. Their coat is a unique sepia agouti, with dark brown spots on a pale cream-colored base. Their short coat sheds minimally.
Despite their small size, Singapura has a muscular, healthy body. Their coat is short and sleek, with a darker tail tip and lighter colors around the chest, belly, and muzzle. Singapura is highly agile, friendly, and loves to curl up around your feet, often joining in family activities. They also get along well with other pets in the household. This breed is generally healthy, with no major health issues, making them an excellent family pet. Due to their short coat, they are easy to groom and do not require frequent baths. However, it is recommended to brush their teeth at least once a week.
DETAILS:
Weight: 2 - 4 kg
Height: 17 - 20 cm
Coat: Short; a blend of white, brown, and gray tones
Life Expectancy: 11 - 15 years
Price: $500 - $700 (equivalent to 10.5 - 14.7 million VND)
