Its feet have 5 toes spread out like human feet, while ordinary chickens have only 3 toes. The advantage of this chicken breed lies in its ability to adapt to harsh weather conditions, high disease resistance, making it popular among many chicken breeders. Brahmas are mainly raised as ornamental animals, while in some countries they are also raised for eggs and meat.
Adult Brahma chickens are priced at around 25 million VND per pair, weighing under 10kg per chicken.

2. Nine-Spurs Chicken
The nine-spurs chicken is not just a 'ceremonial' type in the legendary story of Mountain Deity and Water Deity that you may know. This chicken breed is remarkable for its many 'spurs', very robust and can only live in semi-wild environments because it originated from a wild chicken species that has been domesticated. Its comb is as red as blood, with a pointed and slender tail and bright, piercing eyes. The 'Nine-Spurs Chicken Kingdom' is located in a mountainous commune, Xuan Son, Phu Tho province, Vietnam.
The advantage of this chicken breed lies in its good disease resistance, easy to raise, very intelligent, and can even guard the house like a real dog. Particularly, due to its high economic value, the nine-spurs chicken is carefully cared for by breeders.
The price of a nine-spurs chicken with '9 spurs' can reach 40 - 50 million VND, although very expensive, it is still eagerly awaited by wealthy buyers.


3. Dong Tao Chicken
Dong Tao Chicken, also known as Dong Cao Chicken, is a rare breed of chicken in Vietnam originating from Dong Tao commune, Khoai Chau district, Hung Yen province. It has a tall, big, and majestic stature, with legs that are 2 to 3 times larger than regular chickens, covered in rough, dark red scales resembling corn kernels. The thick, splayed toes are visually appealing, along with its thick and silky feathers, making it irresistible to chicken enthusiasts.
When fully grown, Dong Tao Chicken weighs over 4.5 kg for roosters and over 3.5 kg for hens. It can be said that this is a rather demanding breed but very lively, listed among the rare poultry breeds that need preservation in our country.
Adult Dong Tao Chicken can cost from 1 million VND per chicken and up, depending on the individual.


4. Dragon Scale Gamecock
Gamecocks, fighting cocks, or dragon scale gamecocks are all one breed, originating from the United States and first appearing in Vietnam in Ben Tre and Dong Thap provinces. With large, heavy bodies and layers of 'scales' stacked on their legs, the scales on their chest resembling dragon scales, they create a majestic appearance that cannot be absent from the cockfighting rings of the elite. Particularly, the more 'scales' on the legs, the higher the price.
Caring for these gamecocks must be meticulous, from maintaining cleanliness in the coop to providing a proper diet for their healthy development. Of course, the most painstaking task is training the gamecocks for fighting. Each bird has its own strengths, so knowing and training them correctly is not an easy task.
Each dragon scale gamecock can cost from 3 million VND and up, with some reaching up to 30 million VND because they are not only beautiful and rare but also skilled fighters.


5. Black Chicken Breed
True to its name, the black chicken breed hails from the island of Java in Indonesia, possessing a deep black color 'from inside to outside,' from its tongue to its crest, eyes to bones, and even internal organs. The black chicken, or demon-faced chicken, is a particularly rare and precious breed worldwide, serving as a symbol of luck for the people of Indonesia.
In addition to its outstanding nutritional value, the black chicken is also easy to raise, with a handsome appearance and robust physique. The more it is raised, the luckier it becomes, making it highly sought after by chicken enthusiasts.
In the global market, this black chicken breed can fetch up to 2,000 USD for a mature bird. In the Vietnamese market, prices range from 500,000 to 1 million VND for chicks under 3 weeks old.


6. Silkie Chicken
Among the rare chicken breeds, the Silkie chicken stands out the most at first glance. Its captivating feature lies in its strange, fluffy feathers, coming in various colors, with only down feathers and no regular feathers covering its entire body, revealing only its cute little beak resembling a fluffy dog. Therefore, it's quite challenging to discern their facial features.
With a lifespan of about 9 years, they can endure harsh climates thanks to their soft, thick, and fluffy feathers, making them easy to care for but rather slow and unable to fly like other chicken breeds. Chicken enthusiasts hunt for Silkies mainly as pets due to their rare and peculiar beauty.
Currently, a breeding pair of Silkie chickens can fetch up to tens of millions of dong, while two-month-old chicks are sold for 1 million dong each.


7. Sebright Chicken
Sebright Chicken, also known as 'Lace Chicken', originates from England and is mainly raised for ornamental purposes. Its most distinctive feature is its scale-like feathers with small and perfectly shaped size. With unique and diverse colors, it captivates with its graceful and elegant beauty, attracting many enthusiasts. In roosters, both eyes and combs are dark-colored, and a good rooster should have a strawberry-red comb and dark eye rims. Most hens have a strawberry-red or dark purple comb.
Raising Sebright Chickens doesn't require much food as they eat relatively little, mostly foraging in the garden. The market price for a pair of rooster and hen is around 6.3 million dong.

Just by hearing the name, one can imagine the noble demeanor of this chicken breed. They boast beautiful, colorful plumage, and strikingly vibrant red combs, resembling the shape of a palm leaf.
Particularly, the Noble Breed Chicken features prominently developed head feathers that cascade gracefully backward, presenting a captivating sight. Due to their high value and exquisite appearance, noble breed chickens are often chosen as prestigious gifts for special occasions, such as holidays and Tet.
Noble Breed Chickens exhibit stunning plumage colors, robust immunity, making them favored choices for ornamental purposes by some poultry enthusiasts. Aside from their beautiful plumage, these chickens have upright combs with multiple points resembling palm leaves, elongated wattles, pink eyes, and sharp beaks. Ornamental chickens are priced between 500,000 to 2.5 million dong per bird. In fact, exceptionally beautiful specimens can fetch prices of up to tens of millions of dong, sought after even by foreign buyers.


11. Malaysian Serama Chicken
Malaysian Serama Chicken, also known as Serama, represents an elite breed of chickens originating from Malaysia, revered as aristocratic poultry, urban fowl, or royal chickens. Not only are they a rare breed, but they also impress with their physique. They possess an aristocratic, regal appearance with an upright posture, puffed chest, spread wings, and a tail held at a 90-degree angle to the ground, featuring round, white earlobes...
Especially, achieving the ideal Serama chicken physique, known as the standard type, can take up to several decades. Therefore, the price of a mature Malaysian Serama chicken can reach up to several thousand dollars per bird. Chicks weighing from 300g to 500g are priced at nearly 30 million dong.


12. Sugar Cane Chicken
Hailing from Phung Hung commune (Son Tay town, Hanoi), Sugar Cane Chicken boasts short stature, thick thighs, deep-set eyes, single comb, and legs with 3 rows of scales. The skin of the rooster is purple, while that of the hen is gray-brown or yellow. The meat of Sugar Cane Chicken is fragrant, the skin is crispy, with minimal subcutaneous fat, good health, suitable for free-range conditions, but late egg laying and low egg production. When young, the skin of Sugar Cane Chicken is reddish, and when it reaches a weight of about 2 kg, the skin starts to turn yellow. When mature, roosters weigh 5 – 6 kg, and hens weigh 2.7 – 3.2 kg. Sugar Cane Chickens are raised free-range and fed a diet consisting of green feed (vegetables, roots, fruits...), rice bran, ground corn, various minerals, vitamins, ensuring health and delicious meat. Currently, Sugar Cane Chickens are raised for meat purposes in certain areas such as Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Dinh, mainly for crossbreeding with some local and imported breeds to produce hybrid meat chickens.


13. Ho Chicken
Regarded as a precious breed, Ho Chicken is primarily raised in Lac Tho village (Ho town, Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh province). The chicken has a large comb, red or pink like the color of a peony flower. Its tail is usually spread out like a fan, with equal tail feathers, large and round legs, smooth scales on the legs in soybean husk color. A mature rooster has a large and long stature, with some reaching a weight of 6 – 7 kg. Hens usually have three coat colors: soil (white, blue), ripe longan peel, and sparrow coat (similar to sparrow feathers). The maximum weight of a hen is 4 – 5 kg. The fattening period to reach meat weight is about 6 months. Egg production is low, around 40 – 50 eggs per year. Hens start laying eggs at around 6 – 8 months. The Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the National Institute of Animal Husbandry have sponsored funds to monitor, preserve, breed, and conserve the precious genetic source of Ho Chicken and organize Ho Chicken contests.
Ho Chicken, also known as the king's chicken due to its incomparable meat quality. Among the rare chicken breeds in Vietnam, Ho Chicken is perhaps the largest in size, reaching a maximum weight of 10 kg.
The identifying feature of Ho Chicken is its large comb, red or pink like the color of a peony flower, bright red breast, few feathers, very short tail feathers that stand up rather than lying flat like other chicken breeds.

14. Golden Chinese Chicken
As a native breed of Vietnam, the Golden Chinese Chicken features a coat of straw-yellow and dark-yellow feathers, with black spots on the neck, wings, and tail. Yellow legs and skin, white meat, mostly single combs with few multi-combs. It boasts high-quality, firm, and delicious meat, making it a popular choice.
Mainly originating from southern regions such as Long An, Tien Giang, Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, this chicken has straw-yellow and dark-yellow feathers with black spots on the neck, wings, and tail. Yellow legs and skin, white meat, mostly single combs with few multi-combs. It exhibits high resistance and adapts well to local free-range conditions. The meat is firm, flavorful, suitable for free-range farming. It reaches meat weight in 6 months with an average egg production of 60 – 70 eggs per year. Hens start laying eggs at 6 months and exhibit good brooding and parenting traits. This chicken is highly favored for its high meat quality and easy care.


15. H'mong Chicken
The H'Mong chicken, also known as Mông chicken, Black Mông chicken, or Cat chicken, is a native breed of Vietnam originating from the northern mountainous region. It is raised by the H'Mong ethnic group in free-range conditions and preserving the original breed is one of the specialties.
The H'Mong chicken breed is a rare and prized breed, characterized by black meat, black bones, low fat content in the meat, and exceptionally delicious flavor compared to other chicken breeds in Vietnam. In addition to being used as food, the H'Mong people also make tonic soup from it for health benefits.


16. Serama Chicken
Considered the lightest chicken breed in the world, each adult Serama chicken weighs only 300-500g. Despite being small, difficult to raise, and requiring a lot of training to achieve the proper stance, these chickens are still beloved by pet enthusiasts in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
A pair of Serama chicks costs around 2.5 million VND, while an adult chicken, especially one evaluated as beautiful, can range from 600 USD to over 1,400 USD, equivalent to 12 to over 30 million VND.
With a majestic stance, a broad chest, wings almost touching the ground, and a slender body, initially in Vietnam, Serama chickens were raised for cockfighting and traditional chicken fighting. However, due to their unique body structure, Serama chickens are now primarily raised for beauty contests. The price of winning chickens can reach up to 50 to 100 million VND.


17. Lamborghini Chicken
This black chicken breed is called Ayam Cemani, or commonly referred to as Indo black chicken or 'Lamborghini' chicken (named after the famous luxury car brand) to emphasize their rarity and high value.
Rare and expensive because Lamborghini chickens are entirely black, including their internal organs and blood. They originate from the island of Java (Central Indonesia) and are sought after by many wealthy individuals worldwide. Besides their unique appearance, Indonesians consider them as auspicious pets.
An Indonesian chicken typically lays only 70-80 eggs per year, but the successful hatching rate is very low, usually not exceeding 50%.
Currently, there are two types of this breed: feathered and smooth-feathered. Buyers usually prefer feathered chickens for ornamental purposes. Adult chickens weighing 2-3kg are priced around 2,500 USD (equivalent to over 55 million VND per chicken).


18. Bamboo Chicken
This chicken breed is prevalent in the Southern region, particularly in the Southwest. Bamboo chickens have a similar appearance to jungle fowl but are shorter and smaller, with a maximum weight of 0.7 - 0.8 kg (roosters) and 0.6 - 0.7 kg (hens). They possess a high immune resistance, resulting in minimal susceptibility to diseases. Roosters are often chosen for ornamental purposes due to their attractive appearance. Their feathers exhibit a diverse range of colors, including black, white, spotted, and purple. Their primary diet consists of rice, corn, rice bran, with regular additions of various green vegetables. Bamboo chickens can be raised in small spaces within homes, such as corners of yards or verandas. 19. Evil Chicken
Commonly raised in the Mekong Delta provinces and the Southeastern region, evil chickens have a small stature, with off-white scratched feathers; their skin, meat, bones, beak, and legs are all black. Roosters have dark red combs, while hens have smaller and light red combs, often tinged with green. Their feet typically have feathers and 5 toes, although some may have featherless or 4-toed feet. Evil chickens exhibit exceptionally high vitality, with survival rates from 1 day to 56 days averaging at 95 – 98%, with exceptional cases reaching 100%.
Adult hen weight: 0.5 – 0.6 kg, adult rooster weight: 0.7 – 0.8 kg. Hens lay 1 – 2 eggs/clutch, with an egg production of 70 – 80 eggs/year.
