1. Fury of the Volcanoes
The image below captures the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines in 1991, considered the second-largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century. During this eruption, Mount Pinatubo released about 20 million tons of sulfur dioxide into the stratosphere. Studies show that this ash spread within a radius of over 30 km, helping to cool the Earth's average temperature by 0.5 degrees Celsius in the two years following.
