1. WHEN I WENT AWAY AND THE DAY I RETURNED
Poem by Nguyen Dinh Hung
You keep asking which season Cherry Blossoms bloom
Pomelo trees in the garden, buds nurturing fragrant scents,
You keep asking which season people hustle and bustle back and forth
Gathering together to wish each other blessings and happiness
A season when trees and plants flourish
Girls and boys join hands to build happiness
It's the season when I go away, leaving my hometown for military service
Away from the construction site, surely holding a gun at the border.
Oh my dear
No one in this world wants bloodshed
No one wants to leave their homeland
Away from loved ones in suffering
But our country still has enemies lurking nearby
They want our land to be desolate, devoid of greenery
They want our people to become slaves
And countless generations of love
As under the Pol Pot, Ieng Sary regime.
Do you know?
Like the bee knows to sacrifice for its queen
Could it be that I fear danger?
For the Fatherland, for the love of humanity
I am determined to step forward with all my heart
So that when I return tomorrow
I welcome a bright future
With the sound of the factory whistle
We return to work
And I hold your hand again to go to the theater
Strolling on the beloved city streets
In the park, admiring dewy flower clusters
Sparkling, imprinting the image of both of us in full affection./.
(First Military Division, February 15, 1982)
Note: (1) Pol Pot and Ieng Sary were the leaders of the Khmer Rouge from 1976-1979, responsible for the genocide in Cambodia. (2) The factory whistle is a type of whistle used to start (begin work) and end (end work) shifts at factories and construction sites in the decades past.

2. MUA CAVE
Poetry by Nguyen Dinh Hung
We return to Mua Cave - Ninh Xuan commune
Satisfying the passion amidst the mortal realm
Strolling around the lake, admiring the Pearl Well
Climbing up the mountain peak to gaze at the spring sky
This place, once watched dances by Kings
Now turned into a playground for millions
Who crafted this picturesque land?
Intoxicated by the guests, appreciated by poets./.

3. MY HOMETOWN NINH BINH
Poetry by Nguyen Dinh Hung
Oh homeland, since ancient times
Forests, vast fields stretch far and wide
Waves of the sea, rivers sing melodiously
Glorious history echoes endlessly, oh beloved.
The ancient Cuc Phuong forest remains alive
Centuries-old Chò trees, the ancient cave still stands
Trang An grottoes, Tam Coc river wharf
Making Ninh Binh mystical, serene.
Oh homeland, history forever engraved
Dinh Bo Linh with the Lau flag founded the nation
Duong Van Nga bestowed the Royal Insignia for the country
For Vietnam to remain sovereign forever.
Oh homeland, enriched with love and fate
Van Lam area, gathering place of Tran kings
Kim Son region bears the mark of Cong Tru
Tam Diep echoes the swift victories of Quang Trung.
Oh homeland, resounding with the sound of ringing bells
Here is Bai Dinh Pagoda, there is Phat Diem Cathedral
The prayers call for goodness from everyone
A peaceful life, united loyalty
Cannot forget the names of rivers:
Hoang Long, Sao Khe merge with the Day River
Vac, Van, and An rivers flow to the sea
Making Ninh Binh poetic, musical.
Oh homeland, with many memorable crafts
Weaving in Kim Son, planting flowers in Ninh Phuc
Engraving in Ninh Van, Embroidering lace in Ninh Hai
Breathing life into Phuc Loc wood, so talented.
Working tirelessly, people are deeply devoted
But in their hearts, the lullabies echo
Does anyone know those sleepless nights
To remember each other through the tunes of Ca Tru.
Ninh Binh, through thousands of autumns
Still gleaming along the course of history
Whoever comes, even once, will remember
The scenery and people lingering in poetry./.

4. ABOUT TAM CHUC
Poetry by Nguyen Dinh Hung
Ba Sao town truly shines
Thanks to the spiritual tourism area
Praise those who shaped the lake embracing the mountains
Gratitude for building the Thất Tinh peak pagoda
Once desolate, housing criminals
Now a bustling project
Breathing life into the deep forest, igniting rays of light
Tam Chuc is reborn every day./.

5. AM TIEN CAVE
Poetry by Nguyen Dinh Hung
Truong Yen still holds Am Tien Cave
A cave transformed into a sacred temple - A realm of meditation
Stone steles on the mountain slopes record history
The lake surrounds the mountains, resembling a celestial palace.

Thơ Nguyễn Đình Hưng
Xem tòa xử án bọn quan tham
Mới rõ tim đen của chúng làm
Móc ngoặc, sành lừa thành tỷ phú
Đưa quà, khéo lách chóng thăng quan
Bên dân vẫn hứa rằng liêm, chính
Trước Đảng luôn thề giữ phẩm, danh
Một lũ đa tài mà thất đức
Âm thầm lũng đoạn hại dân Nam.
