2. Russian Language Department, University of Pedagogy, Ho Chi Minh City
The Russian Language Department at the University of Pedagogy, Ho Chi Minh City was established on October 15, 1978. Since the 1992-1993 academic year, the department has offered bilingual Russian-English training. Currently, after completing a 5-year program, graduates receive a Bachelor’s degree in Russian Language Teaching or Russian Linguistics, along with a diploma in English Language Teaching or English Linguistics. In 2003, the department expanded its curriculum to include additional specialized fields to meet the growing demand for Russian language studies.
The department consists of 4 main academic divisions:
- Russian Language Practice Division
- Russian Language Teaching Methods Division
- Russian Specializations Division
- English Language Division

Following the reunification of Vietnam, Russian quickly became an essential language of instruction in the southern regions. In the 1978-1979 academic year, the University of Ho Chi Minh City launched its first Russian language program within the Faculty of Foreign Languages. By 1988, after splitting from the Foreign Language Faculty, it became the Russian Language Department. In 1996, it was officially renamed the Department of Russian Language and Literature, a title that remains today. The initial cohort of students, drawn from across southern Vietnam, particularly the vibrant center of Ho Chi Minh City, eagerly delved into the study of Russian—the language of Lenin, the October Revolution, Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and the noble Russian people.
