University of Ha Tinh was established according to Decision No. 318/QD-TTg dated March 19, 2007, of the Prime Minister, based on the merger and upgrading of Ha Tinh Pedagogical College, Vinh University's Ha Tinh Branch, and Ha Tinh Vocational College of Agriculture and Rural Development. Two years after the reunification of the country, the foundation of Quy Nhon University was established according to Decision No. 1842/QD on December 21, 1977, by the Minister of Education. Over 4 years later, the Council of Ministers issued Decision No. 02/HĐBT on July 13, 1981, to establish Quy Nhon University. On October 30, 2003, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 221/2003/QD-TTg renaming Quy Nhon University to contribute actively to the educational cause, to the construction and development of the socio-economy for the coastal provinces of Central South, Central Highlands, and the whole country, contributing to the construction of socialism and the protection of the homeland.

After over 40 years of construction and development, Quy Nhon University has continuously grown, both in scale, fields of training, level, and quality of training, as well as in the quantity and quality of lecturers, and staff. Currently, the University has 16 faculties, offering 46 majors in pedagogy, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, economics and finance, engineering and technology, with an approximate scale of 13,000 regular students. The University has been and is currently training 17 master's degree programs, 03 doctoral programs with a scale of more than 1000 graduate students and PhDs. In addition, the University also trains undergraduate, postgraduate, and Vietnamese language for hundreds of Lao exchange students from the provinces of Attapeu, Champasak, Salavan, and Sekong. Da Nang University of Sports and Physical Education, formerly known as the Central Sports High School III, was established on December 13, 1977. It was upgraded to Da Nang College of Physical Education in 1997 and officially became Da Nang University of Sports and Physical Education on April 25, 2007, as per the decision of the Prime Minister. On February 21, 2008, according to Decision No. 720/QD-BVHTTDL of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the university was renamed Da Nang University of Sports and Physical Education.

Currently, Da Nang University of Sports and Physical Education is an organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, under the state management of education and training by the Ministry of Education and Training.
