Dien Bien Phu City High School was established in 1962, formerly a secondary school located in Dien Bien Phu town (current administrative area of Dien Bien Province), since then the school has undergone 6 name changes. In the 1978-1979 academic year, the school officially moved to its current location - the land of 'Dia Linh', situated at the foot of historic hill A1. By the 1980s, the school changed its name to Dien Bien District High School, by 1992 the school was named Chuyen High School of Dien Bien Phu Town and from 2003 to the present, the school has been named Dien Bien Phu City High School.

Situated in the heart of the historic city of Dien Bien Phu, Dien Bien Province Vocational High School - formerly known as Chau Muong Lay dormitory area was established in November 1956. Throughout its historical journey, the school has been relocated and renamed several times.
