There are various factors that make Season 4 of Sex Education the least impressive.
Numerous reasons contribute to the unexpected viewer backlash against Sex Education in its final season. The 8-episode new installment receives predominantly negative reviews, highlighting many significantly disappointing details. Screen Rant has picked out the 5 worst aspects of Sex Education Season 4, elements that, if removed, could vastly improve the overall quality of the show.
Aging Teen Characters...
Screen Rant acknowledges that this issue is spreading 'like a pandemic' in Hollywood, as actors portraying teenage characters mature too quickly. This 'syndrome' is now glaringly evident in Sex Education Season 4, with most stars playing students in their 30s. Especially with the male lead Otis, the appearance of actor Asa Butterfield has undergone noticeable changes from Season 1 to Season 4, no longer resembling the 17 or 18-year-old youth he once portrayed.

Jackson's Lack of Romantic Plot
Sex Education Season 4 is burdened with an excess of storylines, resulting in some plots becoming more lackluster than others. Among them, Jackson's story is deemed the least appealing. Throughout the season, Jackson dedicates himself to finding true love, only to uncover a shocking family secret. He is, in fact, the 'love child' of his mother Roz and an unnamed man (whom he previously thought had donated sperm to his mother). On the flip side, the story of Jackson and Cal remains unresolved, despite both having an interesting 'chemical reaction' in Sex Education Season 3.

Neglected 'Sidekick' Characters
An overwhelming number of storylines and characters in Sex Education's final season lead to many characters losing their relevance. Several beloved names, such as Ola and Lily, vanish without a trace. The absence of these two characters is not even addressed in this season, leaving many viewers disappointed.

Jean & Jakob's Unfulfilled Reunion
In the conclusion of Sex Education Season 4, almost none of the fan-favorite couples come together. Even the 'longtime' couple Jean and Jakob disappoint as they don't get a chance to be together. Jakob is notably absent in Season 4, leaving Jean to single-handedly care for baby Joy in a challenging situation. Many viewers agree that Jean and Jakob deserve a beautiful ending after the hardships they've endured.

Otis Portrayed as an Antagonist
This is the most awful thing that a fantastic series like Sex Education could do, and has done. The final season portrays the protagonist Otis as a detestable antagonist, with many moments causing frustration. Otis is no longer caring, intriguing, and kind as before; instead, he becomes a character with numerous misguided 'moves.' He doesn't support Maeve's decision to study in the U.S., mistreating her with thoughtless actions (such as sharing a bed with Ruby). In his new school, Otis competes with another 'psychological counseling expert' to assert his uniqueness. Although Otis later regains composure, this drastically different portrayal of the main character leaves the audience extremely disappointed.
