Living in the embrace of care, the love of family is always a moment of happiness, warmth for everyone. I always cherish and remember the moments living with my grandfather. The memory of him teaching me to cook has become an indelible memory, lasting a lifetime.
I remember vividly one summer afternoon, I accompanied my grandfather to the kitchen to prepare lunch. Usually, I would help him pick and wash vegetables, and set the table. However, that day, he was busy preparing fish, so he asked me to roast peanuts. Knowing that I had never done this before, he taught me how to flip the peanuts to roast them evenly, without burning. I stood beside, trying to listen and absorb his words. But the practical process didn't go smoothly. Due to the too large flame and uneven flipping, the peanuts were almost burnt. When I entered the kitchen and saw the blackened pan, he just chuckled lightly. He didn't scold or blame me but jokingly said, 'You are such a silly grandchild!'. Prior to that, I felt extremely upset with my clumsiness. However, hearing his words, I felt relieved and more comfortable. In the days that followed, he taught me many more dishes. My mother was surprised that I could cook simple dishes. Although I couldn't do much and was still clumsy, he was always by my side, teaching enthusiastically.
Many years have passed, and now I am grown up, while he is getting older. Every time I return to the hometown, I cook the dishes he taught for him, reminiscing about the burnt peanuts incident. As we eat and laugh together, I hope he lives long enough to witness my growth.
