After Much Anticipation, We've Finally Seen the Face of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, WatchOS 8, and Last but Not Least, the Brand New MacOS Monterey.
In Summary of the Event, We've Published a Comprehensive Article on Apple WWDC 2021. Click the Link to Dive Into Details. Here's a Roundup of the Most Impressive and Significant Points for Users in This Event, Let's Dive In!
1. Exciting News: Facetime Introduces SharePlay for Shared Video Viewing, Coming Soon to Android
FaceTime Coming Soon to AndroidThe SharePlay feature allows a group of people to watch or listen together simultaneously, and you can also download songs, videos, or share your screen. Several major streaming platforms are also joining in to support this feature, including Disney Plus, Hulu, HBO Max, and Twitch.
Additionally, default apps like Apple Music and Apple TV Plus are, of course, included.
According to The Verge, Apple announced that FaceTime will come to the web, allowing users to make calls from Android devices and Windows computers. Essentially, Apple is turning FaceTime into a video calling service similar to Zoom, a very practical feature in today's online work environment.
2. Redesigned Safari Browser Interface
Apple has refreshed Safari with changes to the interface of browser tabs and tab groups. On the iPhone, the tab bar will be located at the bottom of the screen, easily accessible by thumb, allowing you to easily switch between tabs by swiping up and down to access the list.
Extensions on Safari are also coming to iOS and iPadOS versions, a feature that I've been eagerly anticipating in this update.
3. Security, Security, and More Security
Throughout the event, I noticed Apple emphasizing the importance of security for users. Personal privacy rights are inviolable, and apps wanting to collect information for any reason, including improving user experience, must obtain their permission.
Apple has announced new features focusing on privacy at WWDC21, including Mail Privacy Protection to prevent tracking pixels (a type of tracker to know if users have read emails) and Safari browser with the ability to hide IP addresses.
The company has also added an App Privacy Report to the settings to provide an overview of issues related to user privacy. For example, reports on how apps frequently access contacts, microphone, location, etc.
4. New Notification Interface and Focus Feature
The notification center will be refreshed with larger images and bigger app icons. Additionally, everything will be highlighted through a filter in iOS 15 called Focus. This feature allows users to customize when notifications appear within specific settings.
For example, if you need to focus on a particular task and don't want to be disturbed, you can set it to only receive notifications or calls from specific people (this can be freely adjusted).
5. Enhancements for AirPods
Starting from iOS 15, AirPods can enhance sound during calls (very useful in crowded places with lots of noise).
AirPods are now also included in the Find My section on iOS to notify users of their device's location.
AirPods Pro and Max will connect to Apple devices to locate their position, while also alerting when the earbuds are not in use but not in the case or left behind when users leave.
There's More to Explore
In addition, at the WWDC 2021 event, Apple introduced many new features such as extracting text from images using AI and providing navigation through 3D street view simulations.
These features, in general, have long been available on Android or Google platforms, but the important thing is they have yet to support Vietnamese. The Apple Map 3D feature is also limited to just a few cities, mostly in the Western world.
Another interesting aspect is Apple Wallet, where Apple aims to turn the iPhone into a user's definitive identity tool, gathering all their information in one device. However, it's not yet usable in Vietnam.
