5. Phú Thọ Mountain and Cổ Lũy Village Remains
Phú Thọ Mountain (also known as Stone Mountain or Thạch Sơn) and Cổ Lũy Village Remains are located in Nghĩa Thương commune, Tư Nghĩa district. The mountain stands 60 meters above sea level, covering an area of approximately 8 hectares. Its shape resembles a giant's foot sinking into the waters of the Trà and Vệ rivers, with the front facing the vast East Sea.
When visiting Phú Thọ Mountain, you'll experience a constantly changing landscape as you move along. Gigantic granite boulders form various unique shapes, as if placed by giant hands. Some stones are stacked on top of others, creating large gaps between them. When struck, they produce a deep, resonant sound, like a bell tolling: the locals call it 'Cấm Bầm Buông.' The mountain is also home to the Hang Pagoda, a serene spot surrounded by year-round flowing streams and moss-covered structures, giving it a pristine and ancient beauty.
Legend has it that every year in the 7th lunar month, a large tiger appears at the Hang Pagoda, but this tiger is gentle and has never harmed a person. The area also contains ancient Cham fortifications, such as the 'Bàn Cờ' (Chessboard) fort and 'Hòn Yàng' (Golden Stone) fort. The Bàn Cờ fort, located on Phú Thọ Mountain facing northeast, is just 300 meters south of the Hang Pagoda and is another fascinating site to explore.
