Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, formerly known as Saigon National Music School, was founded in 1956. The school offers two majors: Vietnamese music and Western music, with nearly 20 different music majors. In 1960, the school was renamed Saigon National Music and Drama School; in 1975, it became Ho Chi Minh City National Conservatory of Music, and from 1981 to the present, it has been Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
